iOS 4.3.2 Update Out for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad and iPod Touch

Apple has just pushed a new update for iOS versioned iOS 4.3.2. The new update is available for the (GSM Model), 3GS, , , and 3G.

iOS 4.3.2 Update

The new updates fixes the following issues:

  • Fixes an issue that occasionally caused blank or frozen video during a FaceTime call
  • Fixes an issue that prevented some international users from connecting to 3G networks on iPad Wi-Fi + 3G
  • Contains the latest security updates

If you jailbreak iPhone, unlock iPhone, jailbreak iPad or jailbreak iPod Touch stay away from this update as this might render your jailbreak and unlock obsolete. The dev team hasn’t yet released any news about an jailbreak or unlock for the iOS 4.3.2.

Also the update is minor in nature so you might get no benefits from upgrading from iOS 4.3.1 to iOS 4.3.2.

Apple to Dominate the Tablet Market for Years to Come

A recent research report by Gartner pointed out that Android was likely to be the most dominant mobile operating system in the next 2-3 years, and would command almost 50% of the market worldwide by 2012.

Today, Gartner released another report which says that it won’t be that dominant in the tablet space. Apple’s iOS platform (which runs on the iPad and iPad 2) will be the dominant tablet OS for years to come. The iPad and the iPad 2 are the most popular tablets yet, and despite several attempts, Android tablets haven’t been able to make much of a dent in its sales.

Even with the launch of Android Honeycomb, the prospects of Android don’t seem to be very bright. The iPad currently commands an 84% market share worldwide. By the end of 2015, its market share is expected to drop to 47% with Android grabbing most of its share.

Android currently has a 14% share which is expected to grow to almost 37%. By 2015, webOS is expected to have about 3% and QNX is expected to have almost 10% of the market.

Compared to smartphone penetration, Google is expected to grow slower in the tablet space, mainly because Google will be trying to maintain greater control on Honeycomb to offer an optimal, uniform experience across all devices.

Jailbreak For iPhone/iPad Running iOS 4.3.1 Released

The iPhone Dev. Team has just released a new jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1, about which we reported a couple of days ago.

The new jailbreak is an untethered one, unlike the previous jailbreak released for iOS 4.3.1. The new jailbreak supports iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G/4G, Apple TV 2G and iPad 1 running on the latest version of iOS.

The jailbreak is also available for all Windows and Mac owners via Redsn0w or PwnageTool. Readers can download the application from here.

iPhone 4 owners, who have unlocked their handsets using Ultrasn0w, need to wait until an updated version of the app comes out. Right now, Ultrasn0w unlock is incompatible with iOS 4.3.1.

Sadly, iPad 2 owners need to wait for a jailbreak, until a boot rom level exploit is found for their device.

Incidentally, the first version of PwnageTool was released on this very day, three years ago!

iOS 4.3.1 Unlock Coming Soon Through Ultrasn0w

The dev team has already been able to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 though a tethered jailbreak, however an unlock for iOS 4.3.1 has yet to be released. If you are someone who is waiting to update to iOS 4.3.1 to fix bugs but can’t do so because you have an unlocked , here is some good news.

The dev team honcho; MuscleNerd, has confirmed that a unlock for iOS 4.3.1 for iPhone will be out shortly with an updated version of Ultrasn0w. He confirmed this through a series of tweets, which read like this:

BTW ultrasn0w needs an update for 4.3.1, so unlockers should wait until that gets pushed out (hopefully also today)

The upcoming ultrasn0w update is *only* for 4.3.1 compatibility. Please don’t read anything else into it!

The ultrasn0w update won’t be a new unlock, but 4.3.1 FW itself breaks current ultrasn0w (unintentionally)

So the Ultrasn0w update will not be a new update but is a patch to fix an impending problem with iOS 4.3.1 that breaks the unlock and is only being updated for iOS 4.3.1. MuscleNerd also said that the iOS 4.3.1 update for Ultrasn0w should be released today.

So good news for you people who have been putting up with iOS 4.3 because of the unlocking problems. Hopefully it should be out anytime now.

Cydia 1.1 Released; Is Faster And Sleeker Than Before!

Cydia, the App Store for all jailbroken iTouch device owners, was recently updated by its owner Saurik – and his team members.

Cydia 1.1 is faster, sleeker and, consumes less RAM than the previous version. One of the major problems with Cydia was that it does not support multi-tasking. Even the latest version of Cydia does not support multi-tasking, due to some root related issues as explained by Saurik here.

However, the developer has added a resume where you left-offfeature, as a workaround for the lack of multi-tasking. The new version will also allow users to run and operate Activator, libstatusbar, and SimulatedKeyEvents, when Cydia is running.

The app start-up time and package loading times have also been reduced drastically. Compatibility with older packages has also been improved along with an improved search algorithm and support for more local languages.

Readers can know more about the changes in Cydia 1.1 here. iTouch owners, who have jailbroken their device, can install Cydia from within Cydia itself.

Tethered Jailbreak For iPhone 4 and iPad Running iOS 4.3.1 Released

Apple released the iOS 4.3.1 a couple of days ago, to address battery life issues and graphical glitches with iPod Touch.

Now, within a day of its release, iOS 4.3.1 has been jailbroken by DjayB6. Sadly, the jailbreak is a tethered’ one at the moment. This means iTouch device owners will need to jailbreak their device, every time they reboot it.

As of now, the iOS 4.3.1 tethered’ jailbreak will only work for the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G/4G, Apple TV 2G and iPad.

Owners of the latest generation Apple’s tablet, iPad 2, will have to wait for some more time before a jailbreak comes out for their device. Until then, they are recommended not to update their iOS version to 4.3.1.

Also, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 owners who have unlocked their handset using Ultrasn0w are recommended not to update to iOS 4.3.1. If they do so, their baseband version will be upgraded and they will lose the network unlock. The tethered’ jailbreak is only available for Mac OS X based PCs.

Hopefully, a Windows version will be released soon. The steps to jailbreak your iTouch device running iOS 4.3.1 can be found here.

Apple Releases iOS 4.3.1

It was just a couple of weeks ago, that Apple released iOS 4.3 for the iPhone and iPad. Today, the Cupertino based company has released a minor update for the iOS bumping the version number to 4.3.1.

The update aims at fixing graphical glitches which some iPod Touch owners were facing, after updating the device to iOS 4.3. Other bug fixes include authentication issues with some enterprise web services, and image flickering when using the AV digital Adapter with your HDTV.

Hopefully, the update will also fix the battery life issues which reportedly some bunch of iPhone 4 owners were facing, after updating it to iOS 4.3.

iTouch device owners, who have jailbreak’ed their devices running iOS 4.3, are recommended not to upgrade at the moment. It is unconfirmed, whether Apple has fixed the security hole, used for jailbreaking iOS 4.3, with this small update or not.

Apple iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G/4G and iPad/iPad 2 owners can update their device to iOS 4.3.1 using iTunes.

How To Buy iPad 2 in India

While Steve Jobs is busy minting money with the new iPad 2 launch in the US of A, we Indians have to be satisfied with the old iPad that is finally being sold in stores around here. The old iPad, which is so last year has 256MB of RAM as compared to the newer one which has 512MB and is also thinner, lighter and has the wonderful smart cover accessory with a microfiber cleaning layer that cleans the screen of the iPad 2 and also doubles as a magnetically attached stand for the device.

So, do I hear all of you pouncing at the title? This means all of you must be one of those gadget crazy people with a lot of money to shell out. If you are not, then you’re going to be disappointed. The iPad 2 for us Indians can be procured at eBay at insane prices. All of these are the Wifi only models, since the 3G + Wifi is locked to the AT&T carrier in the US:-

These rates do not include the customs tax that you are bound to be faced with when you buy the iPad 2. For now, this is the only legit way of buying the iPad 2 in India at exorbitant prices. Other options are always available on (you just need to search around!)

Best Mobile Apps Of The Week for Android And iOS – #8

Welcome to the eighth edition of Best Mobile Apps of the Week for Android and iOS. Starting this week, I am going to list two apps each for Android and the iOS platform. Sadly, I will not introduce our readers to new Symbian apps from this week as well.

In this edition of BMATW, Android owners will be introduced to an app which will monitor their sleeping habits and an app which will help users create their own Android avatar! For iOS owners, there is a very popular Hindi news channel application and a RSS reader app.

Sleep As An Droid (Android)

Ignoring the grammatically incorrect title of the app, Sleep as an Droid helps a user to track his sleeping habit.

Track your sleep and wake up gently with nature sounds in optimal sleep phase

Alarm clock with sleep cycle tracker. Wakes you gently in light sleep for pleasant mornings. Features: sleep graph history, sleep debt stats, sharing (FaceBook, email), nature alarms (birds, sea, storm…) with gradual volume up, music volume down when asleep, captcha, sleep talk/snoring recording.

The app uses the inbuilt accelerometer of your Android handset to track your movement while sleeping, and wakes you up when you are in a light sleep’. Users can also set mathematical puzzles as captcha codes, so as to completely wake them up from sleep!

Sleep As An Droid can be downloaded for free (2 weeks trial version) from the Android Market.

Androidify (Android)

Androidify was released by Google a couple of weeks ago on the Android Market. The app allows a user to create their own Android’ flavored avatar just for fun! Users can customize each and every aspect of their Android avatar including its height, width, clothes and hairstyle etc.

Androidify yourself by customizing the little green Android as yourself, your family, your friends, anyone! Stretch it , shrink it, add a hoody, style its hair, throw on some shades, or even give it a parrot and a pirate hat. Arrrgh!

Once you’ve personalized your Android, share it with your friends, set it as a photo in your contact book, or use it in some inventive way we haven’t thought of yet. Have fun, and we can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Sadly, the application does not allow users to create an animated avatar which is a letdown. Hopefully, Google will introduce this feature in a future update. Android users can download Androidify for free from here.

Reeder (iOS)

Reeder is one of the most successful RSS reader apps available for the iOS platform. The app has a very slick UI and with some nice and smooth transitions. Reeder supports syncing with Google Reader and allows users to browse their feeds either via feed or folders.

Users also have the option to share a given piece of news with their friends on popular social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook.

Reeder also supports Instapaper, ReaditLater, Readibility, state saving and Image caching. The app is available for the iPhone as well as for the iPad. The mobile version of Reeder costs $2.99, while the tablet version costs $4.99.

The NDTV app for iOS brings the latest news and videos from the NDTV newsroom to the users. The app also allows users to watch the live stream of some popular NDTV channels including NDTV India and NDTV Profit. The video streaming works on Wi-Fi as well as on 3G/EDGE.

The NDTV Social section allows users to read and know more about the NDTV anchors and news reporters. The app is available as a free download for the iPhone as well as for the iPad.
