Apple Releases Official iPhone 4 Commercials

Apple has just released four new advertisements for the iPhone 4. All the four advertisements lay special emphasis on the FaceTime feature of the phone. FaceTime allows users to make video calls on their iPhone 4 using a Wi-Fi network. All the four ads are 31 seconds long, and instead of concentrating on the specs on the phone, they try to connect with the human emotions.

The first ad is about a girl getting a really short haircut, while the second ad is about a guy becoming a grandfather, and his son a dad.

Check out these two ads below :

The third advertisement is about a dad trying to bring a smile to his daughter’s face by singing a song to her-:

The fourth and the last video is about a wife telling her husband that he is going to become a dad-:

According to me, all the four ads are definitely very touching. Do let me know by dropping in a comment on what do you guys think about these ads?

Without either of these, users will not be able to jailbreak their iPhone 3GS on iOS4.

Apple Publishes Open Letter About iPhone 4 Poor Network Reception Issue

Apparently, the death grip was not the culprit behind the poor network reception of the Apple iPhone 4. Apple has written an official letter to all the iPhone 4 owners with regard to the poor signal strength. The letter saysApple that Upon investigationthe engineers at Apple found that the formulaused to calculate the network strength was wrong.

In many circumstances, the wrong formula, used to display 2 more bars of signal than the actual network strength. To fix this issue, Apple is going to adopt AT&T’s network strength calculation formula. Along with this, Apple is also going to make the network bar 1, 2 and 3 taller so that users can easily see them. Apple is going to release a free software update to fix this issue.

The software update will be available within a few weeks and will use the new network signal formula. This software update will also be compatible with the iPhone 3GS, and the iPhone 3G. Reader’s can read the full letter from Apple here.

iOS 4 Is a Battery Drain For Older iPhone/iPod Touch

I had written a post before was officially released talking about how was a battery drain and whether or not you should upgrade to it. However, I did upgrade to iOS 4 and found it to be good feature wise. I have now been using the device for a couple of weeks and was disappointed with the battery performance after the switch.

iOS 4 Logo

Though iOS 4 has brought in a lot of nice changes like Folders and Multitasking, it also uses up battery pretty quickly even when the device is not being used. In my tests so far, the device holds up strictly OK and has a battery life of 7-8 hours in idle mode and approximately 3-4 hours with moderate use on an 3G. If you decide to play games or use heavy apps, the battery gets drained pretty quickly.

Now here is the problem, during the above tests, most of the apps I was using were not multitasking capable. With several apps already making use of the new multitasking feature, those numbers will go down even further.

Another problem I saw with my tests was that, if I left my device with 75%-80% battery overnight, the battery would run out in the morning. This is truly a pain since before the iPod Touch would run without  charge for 4-5 days. Now, I have to always remember to plug the device into the charging unit before I sleep. Also with heavy usage I have to usually keep the iPod Touch plugged into the charging unit.

This is definitely disappointing and like I had said it was something I had expected. You might see the same problem on an older . So if you want to use iOS4 you are better off doing it on an which has better battery life and was created specifically for iOS 4 features.

iPhone 4 Jailbreak Already Possible

iPhone 4 was released on June 24 and a jailbreak for iPhone 4 did not take much time. jailbreak was done by the person who also developed the Spirit jailbreak for 3.1.3. The iPhone 4 jailbreak is Userland Jailbreak for on iPhone 4.

iPhone 4 iOS 4 Jailbreak

An iPhone Dev team member @MuscleNerd recently posted an update congratulating @comex for developing another userland Jailbreak. Comex is the same person who developed the easy to use Spirit jailbreak for iPhone.

If you do not know, a userland jailbreak exploits the software or firmware on the phone and the exploit can be executed through a web browser by visiting a website, however, these kind of exploits can be patched out using firmware upgrades.

On the other hand, normal jailbreaks is usually at boot level and cannot be patched using a firmware upgrade and will require an hardware upgrade, which usually happens in newer versions of the device only.

Considering that an impending iOS 4.0.1 update coming on Monday to fix the Antennae issue with the newer devices do not expect a jailbreak for iPhone 4 to be released before that. We will keep you updated when a iPhone 4 jailbreak becomes available.

Spirit Jailbreak Application Updated To Support iTunes 9.2

The Spirit jailbreak application has been updated to support iTunes 9.2. Other than support for iTunes 9.2, no new features have been added. The Spirit application is one of the easiest way to jailbreak your iPhone/iPodios4_logo Touch or the iPad. Sadly, the Spirit application still does not support iOS4 and/or iPhone 4.

Currently, the Spirit application supports iOS 3.1.3 and 3.1.2 for iPhone 3GS, 3G, and the iPhone 2G. All version of iPod Touch are supported as well. For the iPad, iOS 3.2 is supported. Users who want to jailbreak their iPhone 3GS/3G or iPod Touch running on iOS4 can use either sn0wbreeze or PwnageTool 4.0. On a personal note, I would suggest iPhone 3G owners not to upgrade to iOS 4.

The iPhone 3G does not have enough horsepower to run iOS4 properly. If by chance, you have already updated your iPhone 3G to iOS 4 and want to go back to iOS 3.1.3, follow this guide.

iPhone 4 Jailbroken With Userland Jailbreak

Looks like it did not take much time for the to be jailbroken and the guy behind the Spirit jailbreak for 3.1.3 has successfully been able to run a Userland Jailbreak for on iPhone 4.

iPhone 4 iOS 4 Jailbreak

A recent update from @MuscleNerd, one of the guys behind the Dev team who develop iPhone jailbreaks recently posted a picture which shows a successful Userland Jailbreak on the iPhone 4 by @comex who developed Spirit.

A userland jailbreak exploits the software or firmware on the phone and the exploit can be executed through a web browser by visiting a website, however, these kind of exploits can be patched out using firmware upgrades.

On the other hand normal jailbreaks is usually at boot level and cannot be patched using a firmware upgrade and will require an hardware upgrade, which usually happens in newer versions of the device only.

This would mean that the iPhone 4 jailbreak is just around the corner, however, it might be delayed because of an impending iOS 4.0.1 update coming on Monday to fix the Antennae issue with the newer devices.
