No Jailbreak/Unlock For iOS 4.0.2 According to Dev Team

Apple recently released iOS 4.0.2 to patch an exploit used by Jailbreakme.com to jailbreak iPhone, and devices. However, the dev team has been silent on a jailbreak or unlock for the latest iOS, until today.

jailbreak_iphone

Earlier today, the dev team officially announced that they will not be working on a jailbreak or unlock for iOS 4.0.2 and will instead focus on doing the same for . Jailbreaks for iOS 4.1 beta is already available and there are several ways in which you can jailbreak you device.

The reason given by the dev team seems pretty reasonable:

Now it’s a few weeks later, and Apple has closed the jailbreakme.com hole.  They’re shipping devices with FW 4.0.2/3.2.2, impervious to this particular jailbreak.  So now, people will begin to ask: will there be a jailbreak for devices that shipped with 4.0.2/3.2.2, out of the box?

No, there won’t be.  FW 4.0.2/3.2.2 was *only* released to fix the jailbreakme hole.  With FW 4.1 still in its beta stages, it makes no sense to escalate the cat & mousewith Apple for FW updates that only fix the jailbreak holes. To quote WOPR, the only winning move is not to play.

So this means that if you have upgraded to iOS 4.0.2, you will have to wait till iOS 4.1 is released in order to be able to jailbreak and unlock your iDevice. However, if you had backed up your SHSH blobs, you can restore/downgrade iOS 4.0.2 to an earlier version.

iOS 4.1 Beta 3 Supports FaceTime Using Email IDs

The Apple iPhone 4 allows its users to make video calls over Wi-Fi to any iPhone 4 owner. At the time of the launch of the iPhone 4, Apple dubbed this technology as FaceTime and called it revolutionary. The iPhone 4 was the first iPhone from Apple to featureclip_image001 video calling. Sadly, the ability to make video calls only over Wi-Fi was a huge disappointment for many. Currently, users can make a FaceTime video call only using the phone number of the other user.

However, in iOS 4.1 Beta 3 Apple has added an option to call users using their email id as well. The inclusion of this feature suggests that the next generation iPod Touch from Apple will feature a front-facing camera for video calling.

Hopefully, this also means that the next generation iPad will feature a camera for FaceTime as well.

Apple has just released the beta update for iPhone and iPod Touch users. The new iOS4.1 update aims at fixing the signal woes the iPhone 4 has been facing. Apple

However, the problem with iOS 4.1 is that iOS 4.1 jailbreak is only for iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G (Non-MC) models. So if you have updated to iOS 4.1 and now want to downgrade to , then follow the steps given below. Read this if you are looking to downgrade from iOS 4 to iOS 3.1.3 or iOS 3.1.2.

How To Downgrade iOS 4.1 to iOS 4, iOS 3.1.3 or iOS 3.1.2

Step 1: First of all to downgrade from iOS 4.1 to iOS 4 you need the firmware (IPSW) file. After you have got hold of the required IPSW file, you need to put your iPhone/iPod Touch in DFU mode. Keep in mind that DFU mode is different than recovery mode.

Step 2: To put your /iPod Touch into DFU mode, first make sure that iTunes is running on your PC. After that switch off your iPhone/iPod Touch and press the Power and Home button on the device together to put your device in DFU mode.

Now connect your /iPod Touch to your PC using the USB cable. After 10 seconds or so, release the power button whilst holding the Home button. At this point, iTunes should recognize a new USB device, which will be identified as your device after a few seconds. If you have successfully put your phone in DFU mode, then your device screen will display a totally black screen.

Skip to step 4 if you own a iPhone 3G/iPod Touch 2G (Non-MC)

Step 3: This step is only , iPhone 3GS and 3G/2G (MC) owners. Now Users need to use the SHSH blobs of the iOS4 firmware. If you don’t have an SHSH blob of the iOS 4/iOS 3.1.3/iOS 3.1.2 firmware, then you are out of luck. Read this tutorial on how to make a backup of iOS4 SHSH Blobs.

Now users need to edit the hostsfile on their PC by going to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\. Open this hostsfile in Notepad and add the line below to the end of the document:

74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

Now save the file and you are done. Keep in mind that you need to open the hostsfile in administrator mode to make changes to it.

Step 4: Now users need to restore the firmware they downloaded in Step 1 to their iPhone/iPod Touch. To do so, press the Alt key and click on the Restoreoption in iTunes. iTunes will then prompt you to point it to the IPSW file. Select the iOS 4 iPSW file and click on Open.

After this iTunes will do all the work for you. While restoring to the iOS 4 firmware, iTunes might throw in a 1011, 1013 or 1015 error. Just ignore these errors. At the end of the process, the firmware has been successfully restored to your iPhone/iPod Touch device.

5) Now all you need to do is to make your device exit from the Recovery Mode. To do so, users need to download a program called RecBoot. Run that program and just select the Exit Recovery Modeoption and you are done. Your iPhone/iPod Touch will restart on its own and it will now be running on iOS 4.

GeoHot Ditching iPhone 4 Jailbreak, iPhone Jailbreak and iPad Jailbreak

It was just a couple of days ago we told you that Geohot had managed to jailbreak his iPhone 4 on the day he got it. Sadly, he was in no mood to make the jailbreak public. Now, Geohot has updated his last blog post to say thatiphone4 he has taken a sort of temporary retirement from the iPhone jailbreak and unlocking scene.

Here is what the updated blog post says :

Sorry, this post was probably a bad idea. Next time I won’t say anything. I miss when this blog was actually about technical things(I’ve been reacting too much to the feedback, which led it to the place it’s in now). I didn’t fully realize most of the current scene don’t care unless they are getting something. Now I do. It’s late tonight, I’ll think about what to do about this in the morning.

The real reason behind no release isn’t technical. It’s just that it will never stop, after blackra1n, people demand unlock, after blacksn0w, people demand untethered. I miss the days when jailbreaking and unlocking were difficult, it attracted a much higher caliber crowd.
Also, to the haters, the picture is quite obviously fake

Quite a strange move from Geohot here. He was the first guy to unlock the original iPhone way back in 2007. Now the hope of all owners depends on Comex and iH8sn0w to release a jailbreak for the new iPhone 4.

iOS 4 Update Messing up the iBooks App

The iOS 4 update was released just yesterday and iOS users all over the world downloaded it and are going all gaga over the multitasking capabilities it carries. However, the update has also caused some undesirable changes to data relating to many apps, data which is supposed to be stored on the iPhone storage permanently.

ios-4-update-problem

Thomas Baekdal at Baekdal made a post talking about the loss of all books on his iPhone as a result of the update. This happened to the iBook app in particular. Baekdal saw some anomalies with the app starting with it being empty in place of a test book present in the earlier cases. Next, when he tried to get those books back with a download, all the options he got led him to a “buy” option.

Baekdal made a further experiment and tried to sync on his iPad which worked perfectly. The problem seems to be with his iPhone only, even particularly with the iBook app.

That has led him to conclude that this is a problem with the iBook app and it is advised that you switch your reading habits to something more reliable and specialized, something like the Amazon Kindle.

Did any of you have any problems after updating to the iOS 4? I would be glad to hear from you.

New Features That Rock in iOS 4

iOS 4 has been released officially and is available for download. You can content yourself with a few screenshots if you are not one of the lucky iPhone users. iOS 4 has brought the power of multi-tasking to iPhone, the very features that made Android better than iOS. However, this feature needs a supported app and you can read more on iOS 4 multitasking here.

ios-4

Here is a quick look at the new features offered by iOS 4.

The iOS 4 has the much advertised and talked about feature, multitasking. This puts the iOS at par with Android and also affects its battery life. However, battery is one thing people are least worried about. The feeling being able to Tweet, reply to Facebook comments and watch videos, all at the same time is too great.

Moving on, the next feature that has arrived with the iOS 4 is camera zoom. The latest iOS 4 features a camera zoom of up to 5X, eliminating the need for a paid app to do this very basic task.

Bluetooth Keyboard Tethering allows you to type in chat and any text area right from your PC or MAC keyboard. This comes in handy when your phone is connected to a computer.

The HD video recording on the iPhone 4 will get more powerful with a Video Autofocus feature. The feature will be seen on all devices though, not just the iPhone 4.

The iOS 4 supports Multiple Exchange Accounts allowing support for Exchange 2010 as well. This also allows syncing of notes.

This is a small list of what appears at this page.

With this release, Android has something big to compete against. This war will prove beneficial for users of both these current mobile OS giants.

WWDC Live: iPhone OS 4 Renamed to iOS 4, Brings Many Useful Features

Just a moment ago, we reported the new iPhone 4, and now the iOS 4. The first main feature is none other than multi-tasking. Steve Jobs said, “People said you weren’t the first, but we figured it out. If you don’t do it right, you kill the battery.” So, I hope the multi-tasking in iOS 4 will not be a battery hover.

Steve Jobs demonstrated multi-tasking on the iOS 4 himself, he was listening to music plus reading mails plus browsing. The threaded view is also available in mails. Folder creation is also added to iOS 4. You can keep apps of similar category under one folder, like all sports apps under Sport.

The iBooks now, is available for iPhone via iOS 4. The same as in iPad. It will also be available in iPod Touch. Synchronizing the books on your different Apple devices is also possible, like you can synchronize the books on your iPad with your iPhone and vice versa for free. Steve Jobs also introduced iAds, which will help the Apple developers earn money.

Redsn0w 0.9.5b4 Jailbreaks iPhone 3G OS 4.0 Beta 4

Redsn0w the popular tool for jailbreaking iPhone has been updated to beta 4 to support the latest OS 4.0 beta 4. iPhone OS 4.0 beta 4 was released by Apple last week, and the developer team has already been able to jailbreak the iPhone OS 4.

The latest version of Redsn0w is targeted at developers of jailbroken apps who are trying to get their apps working on the iPhone OS 4.0 platform. If you are someone who is not a developer you should stay away from this app for now.

This is a beta release of redsn0w targeted at developers of jailbroken apps. It uses the same pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit that we’ve been using since the 2.x days. Nothing new is revealed to Apple, and it’s not applicable to the iPad. Don’t go near it if you use yellowsn0w, ultrasn0w, or blacksn0w.

Redsn0w 0.9.5b4 only supports iPhone 3G for now, users will also have to use MAC OS X for the jailbreaking. Please do not use this tool if you do not have the iPhone OS 4.0 beta1/beta4 installed on your device.
