Sony Xperia Sola Launched In India For Rs.20,449

Earlier this year, Sony Mobile Communications unveiled the unique Sony Xperia Sola smartphone. It is the company’s first device to feature the unique “Floating Touch” technology. This technology allows the users to navigate the web by hovering their finger above the screen, without actually touching the screen. Once the link is found, it can be highlighted and a simple tap will load the page.

This handset was already up for pre-order at major online retailers from the last couple of weeks. Today, Sony Mobile Communications officially launched this amazing handset in India. This device runs on the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) OS. However, Sony will roll out the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) update shortly after launch. Sony has also partnered with Tata Docomo to offer free 3G data usage as well as exclusive games for the Xperia Sola owners.

Sony Xperia Sola features a 3.7 inch Reality display, sporting a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels, 1 GHz STE U8500 dual-core processor, Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) Operating System (upgradable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS), Floating Touch, Xperia Timescape, 5 megapixel auto-focus camera with Flash, 16x digital zoom, Face detection and Geotagging, HD (720p) video recording, Facebook inside Xperia, DLNA Certified, Native USB tethering, NFC (Near Field communication), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, 3G Connectivity and so on.

Tata Docomo 3G pre-pay customers will get 3 GB of free data for three months, while the post-pay 3G customers will be get 1 GB data per month for three months. On the other hand, Tata Docomo 2G pre-pay customers will get 3 GB free data usage for 90 days and 300 minutes of local Tata to Tata calling, while Tata Docomo 2G postpay customers will get 1 GB free data usage per month for the next three months, along with 100 minutes of local Tata to Tata calling per month for three months.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 310 Launched In India For Rs.23,250

Samsung recently launched the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 310 in India. It is the company’s first tablet device which runs on the latest Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) Operating System. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 310 is also called as the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 in Indian market. It is the successor of the popular Samsung Galaxy Tab, which was launched back in 2010. Microsoft Launches a Startup Incubator in India – Microsoft Accelerator for Windows Azure

Microsoft India has announced the launch of Microsoft Accelerator for Windows Azure in India. In a first for any technology company in India, the incubator will host 10 early-stage startups and help them build businesses in Cloud, Internet, and Mobile that can take the advantage of the Cloud such as e-commerce, mobile, media, social applications, gaming, education & healthcare, or even enterprise products.

The four-month incubation program will provide the selected startups with all the support and mentorship as part of a deep immersion program with the elite technical and business leaders in the industry, as well as at Microsoft, and investors with diverse experiences. The selected startups will also have access to all the resources of Microsoft’s BizSpark program and $60,000 in Azure credit through the Microsoft BizSpark Plus program. The program is part of the Global Accelerator Network (GAN), and hence the inducted startups will have access to the global resources of GAN.

Microsoft Accelerator for Windows Azure is hosted in Microsoft’s state-of-the-art facility in the heart of Bangalore, and you would have to be full-time on the site for the four months. The facility offers everything from work areas, meeting rooms, communications, video conferencing to even a usability lab for filming product demos. The incubator is not open for only Indian citizens/residents, but anyone from anywhere can apply. Of course, you would have to be in India during the program.

At the end of the four month program, Microsoft will organize an Investor Demo Day where Microsoft executives as well as angel investors and venture capitalists will check out your technology and listen to your pitch. Microsoft will also organize informal dinners each week and invite key industry leaders, influencers, and thought leaders to speak on relevant topics.

In a conversation over Skype, Amit Chatterjee(Managing Director, Microsoft India (R&D) Pvt Ltd) mentioned that success of this program will be measured by the success of these startups. Microsoft would not retain any equity or IP from the companies and is not a stakeholder in any way. Although, there are no definite plans, he was optimistic that if successful the program can scale up to include more startups in next phases or extend to other cities with a similar thriving startup ecosystem. A similar program has been announced in Seattle few weeks ago and one has been kicked off in Israel.

Idea Cellular Launches New Affordable 3G Tariff Plans

Last week, Airtel reduced the price of its exciting 3G plans. Now, Idea Cellular has finally joined the bandwagon. Last year, Idea launched its 3G services in Maharashtra & Goa, Mumbai, Gujarat, Karnataka, AP, Tamil Nadu & Chennai, Delhi, Haryana, UP West, UP East, Bihar, Kolkata, Kerala, MP, Rajasthan, West Bengal, North East and Assam. Following the price drop by Aircel and Airtel in India, Idea Cellular went ahead and reduced the 3G tariff plans by up to 70%. You heard it right!

Idea has 2.7 million active 3G users with average usage of 330 MB/month. Today, Idea’s gold standard 3G services are present in 3207 towns in India. Idea Cellular recently announced up to 70% price reduction on its 3G services. Both prepaid and postpaid customers will now pay 3p/10 KB of data, a reduction of 70% from the earlier price of 10p/10KB. Idea has launched a new sachet pack, which allows the customers to try the Idea’s 3G services. This sachet pack is available for just Rs.10 and it offers 30 minutes of high speed internet surfing. It comes with a validity of 1 day. On the other hand, Idea has also unveiled the new “HERO 25” sachet pack which offers 100 MB data with a validity if 3 days for just Rs.25. For regular home internet users, Idea now offers 1 GB of data download at just Rs.250. For professionals and corporate users, Idea has unlimited plan priced at Rs.950.

Airtel Launches New Affordable Tariff Plans For 3G Customers

Last year, Airtel finally launched the much-awaited 3G services in India. The company has won 3G license for 13 telecom circles in India including Mumbai, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh (West), Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, North East, Jammu & Kashmir. The 3G plans announced by Airtel and other operators were costly and not affordable of most of us. Soon after the launch of 4G services in India, Airtel went ahead and slashed 3G data plan rates by up to 70%.

Earlier, the subscribers would have to shell out Rs.201, Rs.450 and Rs.750 for 250 MB, 600 MB and 2 GB of data respectively. Now, the customers will have to pay just Rs.100, Rs.250 and Rs.450 for 300 MB, 1GB and 2GB of data respectively. Airtel has also launched a new 3G plan for heavy data subscribers, which allows then to download 10 GB of data for just Rs.1500. These 3G data plans comes with a validity of 30 days. However, Airtel pre-paid customers can opt for a weekly data plan, which gives you 150 MB of data for just Rs.45 with a validity of 7 days. Airtel has also announced the new Smartbytes for 3G, which allows the customers to continue enjoying the 3G experience even after exhausting their monthly data limits using the add-on packs. Sadly, the Smartbytes is currently available only for the post-paid customers.

Airtel Launches 4G Services In Bengaluru

Last month, Airtel launched the much-awaited 4G service in India. Airtel became the India’s first private operator to launch its 4G services. Until now, the much talked about 4G services was available only for the Airtel subscribers living in the Kolkata circle. However, the company went ahead and finally launched the lightning fast 4G services in Bengaluru circle. Airtel’s 4G network in Bengaluru was launched by Mr. D. V. Sadananda Gowda, Hon’ble Chief Minister of the state of Karnataka.

Mr. Sanjay Kapoor, CEO – India & South Asia, Bharti airtel said,

“As seen the world over, the total data usage is exploding and is doubling each year to grow to nearly 3.6 hexabytes by 2014. With the launch of 4G, India will move from being a follower in technology to matching the world in this domain. Leading from the front, Airtel is now the only operator that gives citizens of the Information Technology capital of Bengaluru, access to entire spectrum of broadband services including 2G, 3G and now 4G – thereby giving the customers never seen before data experience”.

In 2010, Airtel had successfully bid for BWA license spectrum in Kolkata, Karnataka, Punjab and Maharashtra (excluding Mumbai) circles. The company has launched its 4G LTE services in Kolkata and Bengaluru and is currently working towards rolling out the 4G network in remaining licence circles. Last year, Airtel became one of the founding members of the Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI) which was launched at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2011.

Airtel offers 3 different 4G plans starting at Rs.999 for 6 GB of free data, going up to Rs.1,999 for 18 GB of free data usage. However, the company has launched a new plan for heavy data users, which offer 30 GB of data for Rs.2,999 per month. Airtel has also announced the new Smartbytes for 4G, which allows the customers to continue enjoying the 4G experience even after exhausting their monthly data limits using the add-on packs. As part of the introductory offer by Airtel, customers subscribing to 4G services will now be given a cashback for dongle on Rs 1,999 and Rs 2,999 plans.
