Impulse Charity Sale is Live

Stardock’s Impulse digital distribution website has always been one of the premier sites to buy games and other software content provided by Stardock and a variety of other publishers online. Like most other digital distributors, Impulse also caters to a wide audience of gamers and provides special discount sales now and then to boost sales. These sales usually comprise of one or two games or publishers over the weekend or so.

childsplayimpulse

However, since the 30th of August, Impulse has over a hundred games on sale with several publishers lined up in its sale queue. The reason being that this is no ordinary sale! Stardock has partnered with Child’s Play Charity an organization that provides toys and games for sick children in over 60 hospitals in organizing this charity sale called Play for the Cause. A portion of each purchase you make on Impulse between the 30th of August and the 10th of September will go to Child’s Play Charity. The Humble Indie Bundle was also organized along with Child’s Play Charity, if you remember.

The Dragon Age Bundle, King’s Bounty: Gold edition and the THQ Ultimate Bundle are all available for cheap on this sale! Among the publishers are EA, Meridian4, Paradox Interactive, Kalypso Media, the 1C Company and THQ.

So which game will you be buying in the Impulse + Child’s Play Charity sale?

Sacraboar on Impulse just for $4!

Real Time Pig Capturing Strategy is now a few mouse clicks away from you!
When I heard the name Sacraboar, I thought it would be yet another fantasy game about a sacred boar and — what? A sacred boar? Pig capturing strategy?

Sacraboar

That’s right, in this game, you are given a set of units and you have to defend your boar while trying to capture the enemy’s boar. This is an RTS (Real Time Strategy) game that has no pesky resource gathering and all the other oddoties. It’s like chess only it’s in 3D, it’s indie and it has pigs. Needless to say, this is aimed for the multiplayer folks and its matchmaking and advancement interfaces are very similar to soccer tourneys.

This great indie game is available on Impulse for $3.99. Yes! Amazing piggy gaming for dirt cheap prices!

Impulse Memorial Day Sale

Remember what I told you all about weekend sales being a conspiracy against people like me? Well, Stardock’s Impulse digital distribution platform has only cemented my view on this topic. They have placed an unbelievable blowout sale. With the aggressiveness of such sales, it’s really hard to decide which digital distributor to stick to! Since there are way too many games to actually talk about, I’ll just deal with the best of the lot –

image

The THQ Ultimate Bundle (with mostly all of THQ’s best games) is half-off at $49.99 with 18 games in it. A stealis not a good-enough phrase to tell you just how awesome this bundle is.

The Hearts of Iron mega bundle contains all the great World War II strategy games for a mere $42.49. Awesome.

Sins of a Solar Empire is down to only $3.99. Yes the game of the year 2008 is less than $5 just for you this weekend. Please buy this. You absolutely have to just to keep it in your collection and experiencing the effects of its awesomeness.

More bundles are here but these are probably the best of the lot that I know of. Go have a blast at the sale and buy me some games too!

Gratuitous Space Battles Complete Discounted on Impulse

I officially believe that weekend sales are conspiracies against impulsive game buyers like me. So Stardock’s Impulse (that somehow manages to make a pun out of the previous sentence) has put up Gratuitious Space Battles (GSB) complete edition for $20.45 while its original price is $40.92. Why would I buy this inherently complicated sounding game bundle even if its 50% off, you ask? If you ask me, it centers around this line (especially the boldly italicized part):-

GSB also allows you to challenge other players by uploading your best fleets to serve as their opposition, in a massively single-player galactic smorgasbord of laser-death!

image

In GSB, all the battles are automated. The player plans the moves, customizes his/her fleet and their positions before the battle and then sees how well (or how badly) his fleet performs. It’s a single-player only game. However each player can design a fleet and upload it online. Other players can download this pre-programmed fleet and place their wits against another human… in a massively single-player galactic smorgasbord of laser-death!! (I had to use that line. I really had to.)

The complete edition includes the original game and three expansions: The Order, The Swarm and The Tribes expansions!

Awesome Sale on Impulse!

To expand on that slightly vague title, Stardock’s Impulse Digital Distribution store has put some of its best games on sale. The major games on sale are its beautiful and expansive Sins of a Solar Empire epic space strategy and Galactic Civilizations II Ultimate Edition. Both of these awesome games are up for $9.99 only region free!

What? Are these two games the only ones on offer in this awesome sale’ of yours? well sir, they most certainly are not! Over at the sale page, they have quite a number of games listed! The historical strategy game For the Glory, Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripayat Loyalty Edition, classic indie RPG Eschalon Book II and personal favorite Bob Came in Pieces are all on sale with various discounts! So go ahead and have fun playing these great games over the weekend.

Dawn of War Gold Edition 50% Off on Impulse

If you are expecting a long drawn post on what exactly makes the Dawn of War (DoW) series of games so darn good, then you will be disappointed. I do not think I can objectively look at a game that I played through high school with earnest. Sure, it was a gory, violent game. Sure, it was rated M and I played it just as I entered my teens. It’s not like I’ve managed to become a serial chaos killer now, have I?

I have, however, become a lover of all things Warhammer: 40,000.

So, when I hear Dawn of War Gold Edition is 50% Off on Impulsein my email, I can only tell you, reader, to go ahead and buy it. For $9.99 I can hardly think of a better deal on a bundle. Go forth and buy, minions!

5 Great Apogee Games on Impulse.

The name Apogeeor 3D Realmsis synonymous with Duke Nukem Forever and thus is also known as troubled. The publisher/developer has quite a few great games under its belt and also that one biting wound of Duke Nukem Forever. Nevertheless, I remember Apogee vividly for it was their games that I played first when the first home computer was bought in our house. Duke Nukem, Wolfenstein 3D, Bio Menace, Commander Keen ah, those were the days. Now Impulse is selling 5 great Apogee games for $5.99 apiece. Yes, Rise of the Triad, Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold and Planet Strike, and of course Duke Nukem 3D and Duke Nukem: Manhatten Project can be yours at that great price! image

Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold: With a title like that I am expecting nothing more but sheer awesomeness from this title. As Dr. Pyrus Goldfire’s main enemy, Blake Stone must find a way to stop his maniacal plan of… doing stuff. With Adlib & Sound Blaster support (FM and digitized sound effects, IN STEREO!)and diminishing lighting effectsthis game is an audio-visual extravaganza!

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut for $9.99 on Impulse. Buy it.

As you may have noticed from the title of this post itself there is no question about this deal. If you like RPGs, you have to utterly, completely, definitely, unquestionably buy The Witcher. I have never been so vociferous when it comes to a game but this is no mere RPG.
This is by far one of the triumphs of gaming evolution, with moral dilemmas whose consequences you have to face 10-15 hours into the game.
Although it does seem like I am going overboard with my love for this game (and I might have just a teeny bit mind you) this game from CD Projekt deserves as much. As an RPG gamer, I haven’t played anything quite like this. With Impulse’s deal, there is no question of debating. I repeat, if you have the money and like RPGs, you should not wait and go ahead and buy it for $9.99.

As the renowned monster hunter (a Witcher) Geralt of Rivia, players will explore the rich and well-written universe where there is truly no rightor good. The player’s decisions have a major impact on the storyline. I still cannot believe the ending of this game which stayed with me for a very long time. When a game actually makes you feel guilty for a lot of things that you have done, it definitely deserves to be right up there with the greats.

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut features the D’jinni Adventure Editor, the Official Soundtrack CD, a Music Inspired by The Witcher CD, an official game guide, a Making-of DVD with behind-the-scenes video footage, and a map of The Witcher’s world. Loaded with this enhanced features this game is a must buy.

I really hope the RPG fans go ahead and buy this amazing game. This is one deal that should not be missed.
