Idea Cellular Launches New Affordable 3G Tariff Plans

Last week, Airtel reduced the price of its exciting 3G plans. Now, Idea Cellular has finally joined the bandwagon. Last year, Idea launched its 3G services in Maharashtra & Goa, Mumbai, Gujarat, Karnataka, AP, Tamil Nadu & Chennai, Delhi, Haryana, UP West, UP East, Bihar, Kolkata, Kerala, MP, Rajasthan, West Bengal, North East and Assam. Following the price drop by Aircel and Airtel in India, Idea Cellular went ahead and reduced the 3G tariff plans by up to 70%. You heard it right!

Sashi Shankar, CMO, Idea Cellular, said,
“We have been a pioneer in 3G since inception and with these new prices; Idea has brought 3G within the reach of the masses. I am confident that new prices will generate a lot of trial and will drive off take. Our new sachet packs of Rs. 10 & HERO-25 are aimed at youngsters who will access high speed internet on-the-go without worrying about the expense.”

Idea has 2.7 million active 3G users with average usage of 330 MB/month. Today, Idea’s gold standard 3G services are present in 3207 towns in India. Idea Cellular recently announced up to 70% price reduction on its 3G services. Both prepaid and postpaid customers will now pay 3p/10 KB of data, a reduction of 70% from the earlier price of 10p/10KB. Idea has also launched its new pricing in sachet packs, regular packs and unlimited packs. Check out the new 3G tariff plans below.

Idea has launched a new sachet pack, which allows the customers to try the Idea’s 3G services. This sachet pack is available for just Rs.10 and it offers 30 minutes of high speed internet surfing. It comes with a validity of 1 day. On the other hand, Idea has also unveiled the new “HERO 25” sachet pack which offers 100 MB data with a validity if 3 days for just Rs.25. For regular home internet users, Idea now offers 1 GB of data download at just Rs.250. For professionals and corporate users, Idea has unlimited plan priced at Rs.950.

Idea Announces The Unlimited BBM Plan For Just Rs.99

Earlier this year, Vodafone and Airtel launched the “Only BBM Plan” for its pre-paid and postpaid subscribers at an affordable price of Rs.129. As the name suggest, the only BBM Plan allows the BlackBerry users to use unlimited BBM service without burning a hole in their pocket. BlackBerry smartphones are not only used by professionals, but they are also used by students in India. Most of them does not need the BlackBerry Enterprise services, hence paying around Rs.600 only for the use of BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) was not the perfect solution.

Last year, Tata Indicom also launched the BlackBerry messaging services(MailLite) and BlackBerry Internet Service starting at Rs.99 and Rs.199 respectively. After Airtel, Vodafone and Tata Indicom, the next operator to join the bandwagon is Idea Cellular. The company recently launched the new “Only BBM 99″ plan. This service allows the Idea subscribers to use unlimited BBM service on their BlackBerry smartphones.

Currently, the Only BBM 99 plan is available only for the postpaid subscribers in Gujarat circle. However, we are sure that the operator will roll out the Only BBM 99 plan for its post-paid as well as prepaid subscribers in all its telecom circle. The unlimited BBM plans offered by Airtel and Vodafone costs Rs.129, while the Idea’s unlimited plan is available for just Rs.99. We also hope that other subscribers will soon offer the unlimited BBM plan at an affordable price.

Airtel offers 300 local + national SMS in its Only BBM Plan, but the Idea subscribers won’t get any text messages under this plan. This plan is valid for just 30 days. Idea Cellular Launches Entry-Level Android Phones In India

To promote its 3G services, Idea Cellular recently launched two new entry-level phones – the Idea Blade and Idea ID 280 in India. Both the devices runs on the old Android 2.2 (Froyo) Operating System. These handsets are specially targeted at 2G users wishing to upgrade to 3G. Idea 3G subscribers will also get additional benefits with the purchase of this 3G phones.

Idea Blade features a 3.5 inch touchscreen display, sporting a resolution of 480 × 800 pixels, Android 2.2 (Froyo) Operating System, 600 MHz processor, 3 megapixel rear camera, Wi-Fi 801.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, USB, FM Radio with RDS, 150 MB internal memory, MicroSD card slot, 32 GB expandable memory, etc. This handset measures 116 x 56.5 x 11.8mm and weighs 130gm.

Idea ID 280 comes with a 2.8 inch capacitive touchscreen display, sporting a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, Android 2.2 (Froyo) Operating System, 528 MHz processor, 3.2 megapixel camera, 256MB RAM, 152 MB internal memory, Bluetooth, USB, 3G Connectivity, Stereo FM Radio and a 1200 mAh battery.

The Idea Blade and Idea ID 280 comes with a price tag of Rs.7,992 and Rs.5,850 respectively. Idea subscribers will need to subscribe to the Rs. 259 pack, which offers free subscription to Idea TV for 3 months, 1 GB of data download per month for 3 months, 3G Double Dhamaka benefits for 6 months and talk-time of Rs. 25.

Idea Expands Its 3G Services In Maharashtra And Goa Circle

Idea Cellular has recently expanded its 3G services more than 10 major cities and 100 other towns in Maharashtra and Goa circle. Tata Docomo was the first private operator to launch the 3G services in circle. Apart from Tata Docomo, other private operators like Vodafone and Airtel has also started offering 3G to their customers in Maharashtra and Goa. Idea Finally Launches 3G Services In Mumbai

Idea has finally  launched  its 3G services in Mumbai. Earlier this year, Airtel, Vodafone and Reliance Communications announced their 3G services. And now, Idea became the fourth private operator to launch the 3G services in Mumbai circle.  Idea is already offering 3G services in  Maharashtra, Goa, UP, Kerala,  Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. Idea subscribers in Mumbai can  enjoy speeds up to 21 Mbps on their 3G smartphones.

Idea Cellular had won 3G license for 11 circles Maharashtra & Goa, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (E), Uttar Pradesh (W), Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. But the company does not have 3G license in Mumbai circle. To offer 3G services to its subscribers in Mumbai and other circle, where the company have not won 3G licence, Idea has mutually signed an Intra Circle Roaming Agreement (ICRA) with private operators such as Airtel and Vodafone.

Idea 3G is currently available only for selected customers in Mumbai. Idea offers free 100 MB of data for free with a validity of 15 days. After using the free data, Idea subscribers in Mumbai will be charged just 10 paisa per 10KB. To select 3G data plan, Idea subscribers will need to dial *800#. Idea 3G services are currently live in Pune, Nasik, Nagpur, Agra, Meerut, Dehradun, Muzzafarnagar, Saharanpur, Roorkee, Rudrapur, Kashipur and Haridwar of Maharashtra circle. It is also available in Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad,Jhansi, Sitapur and Azamgarh in the UP (East) circle.

Idea already said that the company is planning to grow at the rate of 10 towns per day. Idea will cover 750 towns by mid 2011 and 4,000 towns by the end of FY12.

Idea 3G Tariff Plans

After waiting for months, Idea finally launched its 3G services in India. In the first phase, Idea 3G will be available only in Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh circle. Idea 3G services will be available in 200 towns by mid-April 11. To activate 3G services on your 3G enabled smartphone, Idea subscribers will need to dial *147# or you can even SMS ACT3G to 12345.

Within few minutes, your 2G data plan will be de-activated and you will be shifted to the 3G Pay As You Godata plan. Idea offers 4 types of data plans – Sachet based, Time based, Usage based and Data rate cutter. Almost, all the telecom operators have provided free trial of their 3G services, but sadly, Idea does not provide any free data for trial. Check out the Idea’s 3G tariff plans below.

Idea Finally Launches 3G Services In India

All the major telecom operators have already started their 3G services in India. Last year, Tata Docomo and Reliance communications launched their 3G followed by Airtel, Aircel and Vodafone in the Q1 of 2011. Idea subscribers were eagerly waiting for the launch of 3G from last few months. And today, Idea finally launched its 3G services in India. Idea 3G signals are currently live only in Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh circle.

Speaking about the 3G network rollout, Mr. Ambrish Jain, Director Operations, Idea Cellular, said: “Beginning with MP, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and HP, Idea’s 3G services will expand in a progressive manner to provide expansive coverage across 4,000 towns by year end. Idea will target areas of industrial and commercial activity, centres of learning, and high potential rural hinterlands where broadband is yet to make a breakthrough. Idea has also unveiled a new 3G logo. Idea has set up ‘Experience Kiosks’ to provide a flavour of the services that customers can opt for. These will be available to all users at select ‘My Idea’ stores. Idea 3G services will be available in 200 towns by mid-April 11. Idea is planning to grow at the rate of 10 towns per day. Idea will coverr 750 towns by mid 2011 and 4,000 towns by the end of FY12.
