HTC just announced a bunch of handsets and a tablet at the on-going MWC in Barcelona. First, HTC announced the successor to the highly popular HTC Incredible the Incredible S. The Incredible S sports a 4-inch SLCD display with WVGA resolution.
Like its predecessor, the Incredible S features a cutting-edge design’ with a contoured body. Unlike the Incredible, the Incredible S will be a global device.
The Incredible S will be powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU with the Adreno 205 GPU. The handset will also pack 768MB of RAM. The back of the phone sports an 8MP camera with Auto-Focus and dual-LED flash. It is also capable of recording 720p HD videos. The front of the phone houses a 1.3MP camera for video calling.
The usual Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS with A-GPS, DLNA, Accelerometer and a proximity sensor are also present. The four usual Android buttons on the phone are capacitive and are not marked’. They actually change their position with the orientation of the device!
The Incredible S sports a 1450mAh battery. Sadly, the handset runs on Android 2.2 with HTC’s Sense UI on top of it. The handset will hit the stores in Europe and Asia by Q2 of 2011.
Finally, RIM’s Blackberry had to leave its number 1 spot of the leading OS in US smartphone market. Since, Q4 2007, RIM held the first spot but now Android took that position in this quarter (Q2 2010).
NPD’s latest survey reveals that Android took 33 percent of the smartphone purchased in Q2 2010, followed by RIM with 28 percent and Apple with 22 percent. Ross Rubin, executive director of industry analysis for NPD said,
“For the second consecutive quarter, Android handsets have shown strong but slowing sell-through market share gains among U.S. consumers… While the Google-developed OS took market share from RIM, Apple’s iOS saw a small gain this quarter on the strength of the iPhone 4 launch.”
The best seller Android device in US was Motorola Droid followed by HTC Incredible. The two brands who are behind Android’s success in US are Motorola and HTC. In Q3 2010 Android will get tough competition from Blackberry 6. It will be interesting to see whether Android keeps the first spot in Q3.
The HTC Droid Incredible is one of the most popular Android phones in the U.S. The phone is available exclusively on the Verizon network and features an 8MP camera at its back. The Droid Incredible was one of the few Android phones which was still un-rooted, until last month. The problem with the rooting process was that it was pretty complicated and so many people preferred not to try it.
Now the folks behind unrevokedhave released an updated version of their application. The latest version allows users to root the Droid Incredible in just a single click. Keep in mind that there is no confirmation whether this rooting method is still compatible with the Droid Incredible OTA software update which is being rolled out to various users.
Users who have already rooted their handset using unrevoked are advised not to download the software update for now.
If you are impatient and cannot wait for such a long time, then users can flash the CyanogenMod 6 on their Incredible. This custom ROM, which supports many devices including HTC Magic, G1 etcetera, brings Froyo to Incredible. However, this custom ROM has stock Froyo which means no HTC Sense UI. A user over at Droid-Life managed to flash this Custom ROM on his Incredible and took some benchmarks of the device. The results were downright impressive!
If you don’t want to lose the Sense UI, then there is a Custom ROM codenamed SkyRider for you. Keep in mind that this ROM is still in beta, but manages to bring Froyo and Sense UI together on the Incredible. This ROM still has a few bugs related to Camera, Wi-Fi etcetera.
