HTC has confirmed through a tweet that the HTC Desire will be launching in US market in August. The carriers for HTC Desire have not yet been disclosed though, that information will be available somewhere close to launch.
If you have an HTC device don’t get too upset about the Android 2.2 update coming out after June. Given the amount of developers who are furiously working to get a working root, you might be able to use Android 2.2 on your HTC device much earlier than that.

Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC, recently released a new firmware update for its powerful smartphone, HTC Desire. The new version 1.15.405.4 can be easily updated Over The Air (OTA). This is the first firmware update available for HTC Desire. The changes in this firmware version is still unknown.
“In our commitment to providing you with the best user experience, we are pushing out a new firmware update to you phone. Your phone will receive a notification of this update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G,” HTC’s website states.
It is advised to backup all your data before updating your device. The changelog for this update is not yet available. We will update this post as soon as we get the complete changelog of this firmware update. HTC Desire, the powerful smartphone which was announced last month at Mobile World Congress is up for pre-order in the UK. This handset was expected to release on the airwaves of T-Mobile UK at the end of this month, but it was delayed by one week due to some unknown reason. According to Jimmy from Android Forums, the phone will be available for pre-orders at midday on Monday and will start shipping on March 26th. Current T-Mobile users will be able to upgrade starting Friday, March 26th.
Right now some T-Mobile UK reps are saying that there are only 700 units of the HTC Desire in stock, but they could definitely increase by the time the pre-orders go up and orders start shipping.
You can keep an eye on the HTC Desire at the official T-Mobile UK site here, which says that the phone may arrive in April.
