HTC officially launched the HTC Desire Z smartphone in India. This handset runs on the Android 2.2 operating system. HTC Desire Z comes with a price tag of Rs.25,590.

The HTC Vision a.k.a the T-Mobile G2 in the United States, and the HTC Desire Z in the rest of the world has got its first Android 2.3 Gingerbread based ROM with HTC’s beautiful Sense UI on top of it.

The HTC Desire, Desire HD, Desire Z, and Incredible S will receive Gingerbread (Android 2.3) in Q2, 2011.

Flipkart, a popular online retailer is currently taking pre-orders for the HTC Desire Z smartphone. It comes with a price tag of Rs.25,799. This handset will release on 3rd January.

The Merge was supposed to be announced by Verizon and HTC at the Droid celebration party in Seattle, tonight. Sadly, that did not happen but the handset did make an appearance on Verizon’s website. Though, the image was pulled back a few minutes later.

Most of the handsets launched by manufacturers are usually delayed before their launch. This time the manufacturer is HTC and the handsets are – the Desire Z and the Desire HD.

Along with the Desire HD, HTC also announced the European version of the T-Mobile G2. The Desire Z sports a “pop-out” QWERTY keyboard with the top row of keys allowing quick access to Google services.
