With the dimensions of smartphones increasing with every passing day, it is becoming tough to use them single handedly or fit them in your pocket. So, instead of reducing the dimensions of their handsets, HTC has come up with a bizarre idea of bundling a second ‘mini’ phone. The company has started bundling the HTC Mini with its current high-end flagship, the HTC Butterfly that sports a 5-inch 1080p resolution screen.
The HTC Mini is a candybar phone with NFC and Bluetooth, and acts as a secondary phone to the Butterfly. The Mini connects to the Butterfly via NFC and then displays all the notifications, messages and other relevant information over Bluetooth. The Mini is also capable of making voice calls, and can act as a remote to the Butterfly when the latter is connected to a TV. Another bizarre feature of the Mini is its phone locator feature that will automatically sound an alarm on your Butterfly, in case you ever misplace it.
So yes, you now need a phone for your phone. Maybe, HTC should try to innovate and release a bezel-less phone, instead of coming up with such bizarre ideas.
Back in October, HTC announced the J Butterfly smartphone in Japan. It is the company’s first device which comes with a large 5 inch 1080p display. Last month, HTC launched Droid DNA in the US, which was noting but the Verizon’s variant of HTC J Butterfly. HTC was already rumored to launch the international variant of this device with a slightly different name. Today, the Taiwanese mobile phone manufacturer finally dropped the letter J and unveiled the HTC Butterfly smartphone for the rest of the world.
There are no major changes in the specs of this device. It comes with the usual 5 inch Super LCD 3 display, sporting a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, Corning Gorilla Glass 2, 1.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm S4 Pro processor, Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) Operating System, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, 2 megapixel front-facing camera and more.
Other features include a 3.5 mm headset jack, Google Play Store, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal memory, MicroSD card slot, 32 GB expandable memory, Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n, 3G Connectivity, NFC (Near Field Communication), HDMI-out, Bluetooth 4.0, DLNA and 2020 mAh battery.
This handset will be first available in China from mid-December. HTC Butterfly is also a dust-proof and waterproof smartphone. This handset will be available in white, black and red colors. The company has not yet announced the availability of this device in other markets. HTC Butterfly comes with a price-tag of 4799 Chinese yuan (approx. $770).
