Halloween is celebrated in many countries across the world. While many associate this holiday with ghosts, witches and goblins, a lot of us think it’s just a great time to get together and have fun. Last week I showed you 10 Spooky Screensavers for Halloween. This week 4 out of the 10 are new Halloween themes, but these are a bit happier. In addition, they’ve included some sports themes and even a fish tank theme.

As many of you have learned by now, not all free screensavers are created equal. Many times, free means that you have to install stupid toolbars, adware and other unwanted junk along with the screensaver. That’s not true of the ones at NewFreeScreensavers.

One of the nice features of the screensavers above, is that they all now have settings to mute the sounds. Some of the screensavers also have a setting to include a small analog clock on the screen. I think you’ll like that.

With Halloween just around the corner, the time is ripe to get into the spirit of Halloween with some spooky Halloween apps. You can already dress up your computer for the festival of scares with Microsoft’s Eerie Autumn theme. Now, I will share a few Android apps that will help you prepare your mobile devices for the occasion.

• Countdown: Countdown the days to Halloween with Days 2 Halloween and Halloween Countdown (paid) widgets.
• Plan: Plan your Halloween party with the nifty Halloween Planner (paid) app.
• Dress up: Dress up your Android with Halloween wallpapers and themes.
• Wallpapers: You can use Halloween Wallpapers by Sancron to download free static Halloween wallpapers to your Android mobile phone. There are also quite a few nifty Halloween themed Live Wallpapers; however, all the good ones seem to be paid. I would recommend the ones from KittehFace Software, Access Lane, live wallpaper, BigMountainSoftware and Wolf Labs.
• Themes: Android doesn’t support themes out of the box. However, many of the 3rd party home screen apps are skinnable. Panda Home users can enjoy Owl’s Prayer and Dark Night Falling themes, while Open Home users can install the series of paid themes created by Bubamara for $1.33. There are quite a few Halloween themes for aHome users too. Happy Halloween for aHome is free, while Halloween Theme 1 and Halloween Themes are paid. Some of the other catchy Halloween themes (for PandaHome, Crazy Home, OpenHome, aHome, LiveHome & dxTop) are Disney Halloween , Pooh’s Halloween and Cutesy Halloween.
• Ringtones: Finally, choose an especially creepy ringtone to finish up preparing your device for Halloween. You can use any of the soundboards available in the market. The ones I liked are Halloween Soundboard Ringtones and Halloween Soundboard Scary apps.

Halloween is in full swing, and it is not just the people who get to dress up. Many popular brands celebrate Halloween by changing their home page or logos. So who all are into the Halloween spirit?

These are the only instances I saw of big brands sporting a Halloween look. Apparently Facebook has not done anything special for Halloween. Twitter on the other hand has some surprises if you type in #trick or #treat.

Today is Halloween eve and Opera Software has prepared a special treat for Opera fans. They have released a Halloween edition of Opera browser for Windows and Mac.

This special edition includes “Phantom of the Opera II” speed dial background and a custom Halloween skin. If you have already installed Opera on your computer, you will need to backup bookmarks.adr, speeddial.ini and operaprefs.ini files before proceeding with the installation. All these files are present in the Opera profile directory. After backing up the aforementioned files, you can install Opera Halloween edition on top of the existing installation. If you still see the default skin, simply select the Halloween skin from Tools –> Appearance (Shift+F12). You can get back your original bookmarks and speed dials by replacing the newer bookmarks.adr and speeddial.ini files with the backed up versions. If you want to switch back to the original skin select the Opera Standard skin in the Appearance dialogue box.

Halloween is all about costumes, and I have watched Halloween parades over the years, to see simply outlandish but innovative costumes that make you laugh, and also scare you.
