Samsung Galaxy Tab is already a huge hit worldwide. Last month we posted that Samsung managed to sell 1 million units of Samsung Galaxy Tab. And now, after a month, Samsung reached another milestone by selling 2 million units of its 7 inch tablet. This device runs on the older version of Android operating system. Galaxy Tab was launched in September and within 5 months, this tablet has reached the 2 million milestone.
Galaxy Tab runs on the Android 2.2 (FroYo) Operating System. It comes with a 7 inch TFT LCD touchscreen display with 1024Ã—600 pixels resolution, 1GHz processor, TouchWIZ 3.0 UI, 3.2 megapixel camera, HD (720p) video recording, 1.3 megapixel front facing camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, 3G Connectivity, 512MB RAM, 16GB of internal memory, 32GB expandable memory and a 4000mAH battery.
According to Yonhap News, Samsung has managed to sell 500,000 units of Galaxy Tab in Europe, 350,000 units in North America and around 330,000 units in Asia. Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Tab’s successor next month at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2011 in Barcelona.
At Verizon’s CES 2011 press conference, it announced a lot of new devices, including smartphones and tablets. With the Motorola Xoom, it also announced an upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy Tab.
The refreshed Galaxy Tab will offer some improvements over its predecessor.
It will now be powered by a 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor. It will also offer 4G LTE connectivity and will have a better 5 MP camera.
Everything else will be the same as the original Galaxy Tab, including the display, RAM, OS and other specs.
No details about the pricing of the new Galaxy Tab have announced yet.
Back in September, Samsung launched its first tablet device, the Galaxy Tab. And now, the company announced a Wi-Fi only version of their popular tablet at the CES 2010 in Las Vegas. There are no changes in the device, expect the fact that, the lastest variant does not come with a 3G connectivity option. The Wi-Fi only version of Galaxy Tab is powered by the same old Android 2.2 (FroYo) operating system.

The AllShare DLNA Technology in the Galaxy Tab allows you to take video or pictures with the device and send the original content wirelessly to other DLNA-enabled devices such as HDTVs, laptops, PC monitors, etc. The price of this device is not announced yet. The Wi-Fi only Galaxy Tab will be available for purchase in the US from the first quarter of 2011.
The Samsung Galaxy S is undoubtedly the most popular Android smartphone yet. It is available worldwide and has had record sales since its launch, eclipsing any other Android phone. In fact, the Galaxy S was such a huge hit that Google launched the next phone in the Nexus series – the Nexus S, with Samsung as a partner, and not HTC which has been the most staunch Android supporter since years.
The Galaxy S is now reaching the 10 million milestone. Earlier this week, Samsung announced that the Samsung Galaxy S and its variants have already sold 9.3 million units since launch. With about 10 more days since the announcements, and the Christmas shopping season in full swing, Galaxy S may end this year with 10 million sales. Even the Samsung Galaxy Tab may sell 2 million units by the end of 2010, making it a very good year, for both Samsung and Android.
It has been less than 2 months since the Samsung Galaxy Tab was released, but it has already sold 1 million units worldwide. The Galaxy Tab is the best Android tablet around, so the numbers are not surprising.
Compared to the iPad, which sold 1 million units in exactly 28 days, the Galaxy Tab completed 1 million sales in slightly more than a month, as it first became available around the end of October. In the US though, which is probably its largest market, it became available only after November 10, so in a way, it might have beaten the iPad in terms of sales. Such a comparison is not exactly fair, because the Galaxy Tab is available in many more countries than the iPad, 64 to be precise.
The sales of the Galaxy Tab have been consistently great, despite the high pricing; in fact, it had sold 600,000 Galaxy Tab units by November 22, which means that it pushed out 400,000 Tabs in just 10 days.
Samsung has also increased its sales estimates to 1.5 million Galaxy Tabs by the end of 2010, but I wouldn’t find it surprising if it clears 2 million units by then, extrapolating from the current figures. With the Christmas holiday season in sight, it might even sell more.
A Korean newspaper The Korean Herald has reported that Samsung have managed to sell more than 600,000 Galaxy Tab worldwide. The newspaper reports that these numbers have been confirmed from the company itself. Earlier, analysts suggested that the sales of Galaxy Tab is pretty weak worldwide due to its high pricing.
However, the sales figure of the Tab sure has managed to beat the analysts’ prediction. According to the newspaper, the demand for the tablet is higher than its supply in many countries. In its home land Korea Samsung has managed to sell around 30,000 units since the Tab launched on November 14. At its current pace, the sales of Galaxy Tab will be able to meet Samsung’s expectation of 1 million units by the year end.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab has to be the first tablet running Android 2.2 to have sold in such huge numbers. Even though not an iPad killer, the Galaxy Tab sure is a worthy competitor to the Apple iPad.
The folks over at CellPassion have apparently received an invitation from Samsung for an upcoming press conference to be held by them on October 29. The Invite says “let’s tabâ€¦.let’s talk”. From this tag line, it is pretty clear that Samsung will be unveiling their latest creation the Samsung Galaxy Tab in India.
The Galaxy Tab sports a 7-inch S-LCD screen made of Gorilla glass with a resolution of 1024×600. The tablet is powered by a 1GHz Hummingbird processor and packs 512MB of RAM and 8/16GB of internal memory. The Tab runs on Android 2.2 with TouchWIZ 3.0 UI on top of it.
Rumors suggest that Samsung will be pricing the Galaxy Tab at around Rs. 40,000. It will be interesting to see if Samsung launches a subsidized carrier version of the Galaxy Tab with some packaged data plans in India.
Since at its rumored price the Galaxy Tab will be priced higher than the iPad, I doubt the Galaxy Tab will find many takers.
Today, in a press release Sprint has officially confirmed that they will be launching the Samsung Galaxy Tab on November 14th in the U.S. Interested users can already pre-order their Galaxy Tab from here. Sprint has priced the Galaxy Tab at $399.99 with a two-year 3G mobile broadband plan.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab sports a 7-inch S-LCD with a resolution of 1024×600. The tablet is powered by a 1GHz Hummingbird processor and packs 512MB of RAM and a PowerVR SGX540 to handle the graphics department.The tablet also sports the usual GPS, WiFi n, Bluetooth 3.0, 2gb of on board memory and a 400mAh in built battery.
The Galaxy Tab runs on Android 2.2 with the TouchWIZ 3.0 on top of it. Sprint customers will be offered two 3G plans to suffice all their Internet needs on the tablet a $29.99 one and $59.99 one. The cheaper plan will have a 2GB data limit with unlimited messaging, while the latter will have 5GB of data limit with unlimited messaging.
Other network operators in the U.S. are also expected to announce the Samsung Galaxy Tab soon.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab will be launched in the US in November, with all major carriers – Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. Most of them are pricing the Galaxy Tab at $599 without a contract and $399 with one.
However, that is not your only option. Earlier, Samsung announced that it will be launching a Wi-Fi only version of the Galaxy Tab, and details of that have now started leaking out.
Pocketables has come across some fliers which say that the Wi-Fi only version of the Galaxy Tab will be launched in November itself, and will be priced at $499. It will be launched at Best Buy and will be available at the same time when the carriers start shipping out the preorders.
The Wi-Fi only version is exactly the same as the 3G version except that it doesn’t pack in a CDMA/3G radio. $499 seems to be the right price point for the Galaxy Tab considering that the base version of the Wi-Fi iPad is priced at $499 too, and has much less to offer than the Galaxy Tab.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab, the first major Android tablet was officially unveiled at IFA 2010, Berlin. It will be available for purchase soon with all the major carriers in the US. Sprint and T-Mobile had already announced their pricing plans, both planned to sell it for $399 with a contract and $599/$649 without one.
Today, Verizon announced its own plans for the Galaxy Tab. It will be available starting November 11 for $599.99. This is the full retail price, Verizon isn’t offering any subsidized version with a contract. The data plans are priced at $20 per month for 1 GB.
The Galaxy Tab will come with Verizon apps like VCAST Music, VZ Navigator etc. Verizon will also start selling the iPad from October 28.
