Google is known for its impressive Google Doodle however, there are several other interesting features in Google search which are hidden as Eastern Eggs and sometimes not so hidden like the Google Pirate Edition.

A new treat can now be found on Google search when you search for the term "Do a barrel roll". When you perform this search at Google.com the search page will flip over and rotate just like a plane would do while it is doing a barrel roll.

According to Wikipedia:

A barrel roll is an aerial maneuver in which an airplane makes a complete rotation on its longitudinal axis while following a helical path, approximately maintaining its original direction. It is sometimes described as "a combination of a loop and a roll". The G-force is kept positive (but not constant) on the object throughout the maneuver, commonly between 2-3 G, and no less than 0.5 G.

So go ahead and to a barrel roll at Google by search for "Do a barrel roll" or just click on this link.

Bonus: Try searching for "tilt" and "askew" as well.

For ever since I have known, we have thought our kids the English Alphabets using objects that pertain to an alphabet. For example, we have learnt the alphabets by using “A for Apple”, “B for Ball”, “C for cat” and so on.

However, technology has changed our generation and we have become so advanced now that we do need to change which object we relate to an alphabet. And my friend Jatin Sapra (http://about.me/jatinsapra) has done something similar.

Here is an alphabet chart which relates the alphabet to technologies that rock the world today. Kudos to Jatin on this, he said that he did it because he was bored. I have been using YouTube for the past 6 years or so. In those years, I have seen slow buffering and sometimes come across weird errors. However, today was the first time that I came across a YouTube 500 Internal server error and it was hilarious enough to not post about it.

First of, the error says that is a 500 Internal Server Error and Sorry, something went wrong. However, they also claim to have a highly trained team of monkeys who can deal with it. Now only if I could find those suckers.

A team of highly trained monkeys has been dispatched to deal with this situation.

We all saw what happened when crazy Japanese men decide to destroy a piece of equipment by deep frying it. If that was not stupid enough, they also try to eat it. The misguided Japanese kids wanted to make a tempura out of a Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP), but instead coughed out the melted plastic/silicon pieces. They win the how NOT to destroy gaming equipmentgrand jury prize. It also unnerved a lot of us and made us go these Japanese are crazya la Asterix and Obelix‘s These Romans are crazy.

Megawin, the Japanese comedy troupe, decided to tell the world what’s what with Japanese cooking with electronics. Only this time, they used a PSP case with cellophane paper to make sabazushi. Sabazushi, as wikipedia says, is a dish made of raw mackerel and rice. The video is a pretty hilarious (even though I do not know the language) and is an innovative way of making sushi… and um… carrying it around in a PSP case for snacking sessions with your Monster Hunter playing sessions.

Of course, the question of where exactly will the PSP be stored while the sushi gets cold[er] in the case is another question. The video follows.

…or at least, tries to. These Japanese people, I tell you they’re absolutely bonkers. There’s an endless list of good things that the Japanese do from electronics to anime. There’s also an endless-er list of crazy things that they do. In this case, it’s a man who deep fries a battered Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) covered in batter (see what I did there?) and then tries to eat it. All this while, his friend films the entire cooking experience.

You might ask why the two make an entirely pointless (I cannot possibly think of a point here, except internet infamy) ten minute video of the ordeal. In these ten minutes, the man is seen introducing his PSP which incidentally has a Monster Hunter game running (how typical) and laughing maniacally as he coats it in batter in the kitchen, near a pan of boiling oil. Then he drops it in the oil, puts on cool shades and starts laughing. Three and a half minutes in, the two of them start coughing from the fried fumes of electronics and plastic.

Eventually he’s seen taking the melted, battered PSP out and dipping it in some sort of sauce. Apparently, they wanted to make a tempura dish with a PSP. Then the guy actually bites a piece off the device and tries to eat it. Needless to say, that does not turn out very nicely.

Some Japanese people, I tell you. Bonkers.

Portal 2 is going to be the best First Person Shooter (FPS) to come out this year. Or so I hope, for I really really suck at judging a game genre in which a hundred games are released every year. However, I am pretty sure Portal 2 will be the funniest FPS to come out this year, mostly because it takes itself too seriously (on purpose) and is ridiculously silly at times.

Take, for example, this advertisement for Portal 2‘s preorder that is going to hit the developer’s (Valve) digital distribution store Steam very soon. Released on Valentine’s Day, the ad mocks the concept of gifting ideas for the female species.

Okay, that’s about as far as I’m allowed to say without spoiling the entire advert for you. The thing is that it’s done very well (and probably within Valve’s Source engine, judging by the way things moved when… erm… other things exploded). Watch the video here!

However, contrary to what the video says, Portal 2 is not available for preorder. At least not from my country (and not from my random Tor IP either). Is this another one of those Valve Time debacles? Is this a sick joke from Valve’s side, as we poor mortals refresh the Portal 2 page, hoping for a preorder? Is this the end of the world??

No, it’s probably just a mistake by the Portal 2 PR team. It’s alright everybody; we don’t need to do a flash protest here. Move along.

This had to be coming. After Nokia CEO said that the popular developer framework Qt will not be part of their Microsoft deal for Windows Phone 7, someone definitely had to get pissed off.

After all Nokia has been trumpeting about Qt to all their developers for a long time and even did a huge show about it at the Nokia World 2010 where they awarded money to the best apps.

So what does Nokia do with Qt now? NO one can say, but a smart guy definitely came up with a site which could possibly be mistaken for an actual QT port for Windows Phone 7. Don’t get fooled though, it is just a satire and is poking fun at Nokia. I bet there will be several other developers who will be saying "What a waste of time it has been"

The website in question is http://www.msqt.org/ and was registered on Feb 12 2011, after the Nokia-MSFT decision. I must say that the person who created the website devoted a lot of time to it since anyone will be fooled thinking that it is an actual Qt port for Windows Phone.

When People Can Fly studios released their First Person Shooter (FPS) parody Duty Calls (directly mocking the Call of Duty series), they just wanted it to be a satirical view on the realisticFPS genre and an anti-demo for their game Bulletstorm. Basically, what they were saying is that our game, Bulletstorm, is not this game. It is definitely everything but this game. Look at this game. This game is stupid. You know which game we are talking about, right? Yes, that game., more or less.

It is, in essence, a rather large (~800MB), ESRB rated 17+ (or so their website claims) game that parodies the Call of Duty games, and is pretty funny while doing it. Coming from the folks that created Painkiller and Gears of War, it is a pretty bold move to reclaim the First Person Shooter market dynamics. It was, in a sense, and advertisement for their game too as I have made it clear with my inherent knowledge of psychology, psychoanalysis, psychohistory, psychogeography and other psycho subjects in the first paragraph.

The developers were (obviously) very happy with this, and decided to enthusiastically tweet about the success of Duty Calls. How best to celebrate this grand success, you ask? By releasing Bulletstorm wallpapers, naturally:-

The gadget looks for the above words in tweets and then uses an old fan motor to twirl the towel whenever it comes across it. The gadget is built by Steelers fans who are technology enthusiast.
