HTC Hero Android 2.1 OTA Update For Europe Users

HTC has released a Firmware and OS update for HTC Hero users in Europe. The new update will be available Over-The-Air (OTA).

HTC Hero

HTC has been phasing the Android 2.1 update to users and users in US already received their updates through Sprint. Earlier this month Asian users of HTC Hero received an update and starting today HTC Hero European users in EU, Denmark, Greece, Ireland, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and Belgium will start getting the Android 2.1 OTA updates.

The Android 2.1 update for Hero took quite a while, however don’t expect anything more. HTC Hero users will not be receiving a as far as US users are concerned, so you might have to root your device if you want to use Froyo.

Nexus One Getting Android 2.2 Froyo OTA Updates

users will finally start getting a update starting today. The announcement which was made on the official Nexus One blog said that all users who have a Nexus One will start getting an Over-The-Air (OTA) software update for their phones.

Nexus One

2.2 Froyo is several times faster than the OS and also includes Flash 10.1. In addition to that there are several new features including internet tethering and more.

Android 2.2 Froyo

If you have a Nexus One phone, you should receive the software update directly on your phone, just make sure to backup your device before you install Froyo.

HTC Phones to Get Android 2.2 Froyo In Two Weeks

Last month we told you about HTC devices getting Android 2.2 Froyo update after June, now there may be some confirmation coming in from HTC that the will be released in the next couple of weeks.

android22_froyo

An XDA forum member contacted HTC and got a response that 2.2 Froyo would be released over the air in the next couple of weeks (emphasis added):

Dear Jonathan, Thank you for contacting us in regards to your flash player issue. Within the next 2 weeks HTC wil (sic) release the Android 2.2 OS over the air. The will enable the lastest (sic) version of Adobe Flash Player on your device and will resolve any exisiting (sic) issues. I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required. Thank you for contacting HTC. Best regards, xxxxxxxxxxxxx HTC Technical Support.

The message does confirm that HTC will be releasing an Android 2.2 Froyo update by end of June or early July. However, take this information with a pinch of salt, in the past we have had Sprint customer support telling users than an Android 2.1 update for HTC Hero was coming soon, however, it never came on the said date.

HTC Hero Firmware OTA Update Released by HTC, No Android 2.1 Yet

HTC has released a new firmware update for HTC Hero which can be downloaded Over The Air (OTA) through Wi-Fi or a GPRS/3G connection.

htc-hero

However, don’t rejoice yet as this update will not bring the 2.1 update to Hero and will only include a Firmware over-the-air (FOTA) client update & YouTube player Update.

The new Build number after the update will be 2.73.405.93; 2.73.405.94 (Nordic) & 2.73.405.95 (Greece/ Ireland). So this means that the new updates will only be available in Nordic, Greece and Ireland.

Earlier this month HTC released an Android 2.1 update4 for Asian countries, so this update would mean that they are prepping more countries to get the Android 2.1 update.

HTC Hero device owners have been given secondary treatment for quite a while now, considering that it has received a Best Mobile Handset Award at GSMA, the updates to this device have been very slow, and now that is already being released for devices like and in future for Droid and HTC EVO, the wait to get Froyo on the Hero might turn out to be even longer.
