Nokia E7 PR 1.1 (V14.002) Firmware Update Released

Nokia has just released a new firmware update for the recently released business communicator Nokia E7.

The PR 1.1 (v14.002) software update for the E7 is a minor update and does not bring any noticeable improvements or changes. The update mainly improves the performance and stability of the handset, along with fixing some minor bugs.

Nokia E7 owners will be automatically prompted by their handset to download and install the update. However, users can manually check for the firmware update by using the SW Update’ application in the phone. The update will be slowly rolled out by Nokia in different regions of the world, so users need to be patient before the update hits their phone.

Hopefully, Nokia will release the highly anticipated PR 2.0 software update for all the latest Symbian^3 based devices including the N8 and E7. The PR 2.0 firmware update is expected to address the major shortcomings of the Symbian OS and includes a new web-browser and a text input system, as well.

Nokia C7 PR 2.0 Firmware Leaks; Brings Lots Of Changes

Nokia has promised that the company will release firmware updates for all the latest Symbian^3 handsets including the Nokia N8, C7 and C6-01, which will address the major shortcomings with the Symbian UI.

Up until now, Nokia has released the PR 1.1 firmware update for all the above said handsets that hardly brought any visible changes to the end-user. However, it is the next update i.e. PR 2.0 that will bring a lot of changes with it including a new web browser and a new text-input system. The PR 2.0 update will also bring a new portrait QWERTY keyboard to the latest Symbian handsets from the Finnish giant.

Now, NitishKumar has managed to get his hands on the upcoming PR 2.0 firmware update for the Nokia C7. He managed to download the firmware through NaviFirm, which lists all the firmware Nokia is going to release or have already released to the public.

Some C7 owners over at DailyMobile.se forums have flashed the leaked PR 2.0 firmware on their handset. These users reported that the performance of the handset has improved considerably and Nokia has also enabled NFC with this firmware update. There is now an NFC settings option in the Settings Menu of the phone.

The Java version and the inbuilt web-browser have also been updated. The Kinetic scrolling and the home screen transitions are also smoother compared to PR 1.1 firmware. The new text-input system along with a new portrait QWERTY keyboard is also present.

The leaked firmware also installs many games on the handset including Fruit Ninja. Apparently, the battery life and the speaker sound quality also improved after flashing the PR 2.0 firmware.

In all probability, the PR 2.0 firmware update must be under final stages of testing for all the latest Symbian based handsets, and will be released within a couple of weeks from Nokia.

Samsung Galaxy S Gets Auto-Focus In Video Recording

The Samsung Galaxy S was one of the most popular Android handsets last year. In some aspects, it still is. The handset did have its fair share of controversy with a non-usable GPS and the Froyo update delay.

The back of the Galaxy S sports a 5MP camera with Auto-Focus and face detection. Earlier, the Auto-Focus used to work only while clicking pictures. However, recently Samsung released an app on the Samsung Apps’ store called the Camera Firmware Update.

The application updates the firmware of of the camera and enables continuous auto-focus while recording videos.

Below is a video shot from the Galaxy S which shows the auto-focus feature :

The picture and the video quality taken from the camera remains the same. Galaxy S owners can download the application from here. Users are warned not to uninstall this app once they update the camera firmware of their handset. The app works on rooted Galaxy S handsets, as well as one running on Custom ROMs.

It is nice to see Samsung still adding some handy features to the Galaxy S.

It was late last month that Nokia released the PR 1.1 update for the latest Symbian based handsets including the N8, C7 and C6-01. The PR 1.1 update hardly brought any noticeable changes to the end users.

Nokia has stated that the PR 2.0 update for the latest Symbian handsets will improve some of the heavily criticized aspects of the phone including the web browser and the text input mode system.   Now, the folks over at MyNokiaBlog have managed to get their hands on a video which shows an N8 running on PR2.0 firmware.

Below is the video of a Nokia N8 running PR 2.0 firmware :

The video shows an updated version of the in-built mail client on the N8 along with an updated browser. The new browser has an updated UI and also supports tabbed browsing.

The PR 2.0 firmware is expected to come out sometime in March or early April, so Nokia still has time to add new features and improve the performance of the device.
