Yes, a proaction gamer will always have his (and in the remote chance that there is one) or her Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Team Fortress 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 but the giant that is Counter Strike never really had a Counter Strike 2 did it? It received a facelift once with Counter Strike: Source bringing in most of the Havoc physics of the Source engine from Half Life 2. I officially believe that weekend sales are conspiracies against impulsive game buyers like me. So Stardock’s Impulse (that somehow manages to make a pun out of the previous sentence) has put up Gratuitious Space Battles (GSB) complete edition for $20.45 while its original price is $40.92. Why would I buy this inherently complicated sounding game bundle even if its 50% off, you ask? If you ask me, it centers around this line (especially the boldly italicized part):-

GSB also allows you to challenge other players by uploading your best fleets to serve as their opposition, in a massively single-player galactic smorgasbord of laser-death!

In GSB, all the battles are automated. The player plans the moves, customizes his/her fleet and their positions before the battle and then sees how well (or how badly) his fleet performs. It’s a single-player only game. However each player can design a fleet and upload it online. Other players can download this pre-programmed fleet and place their wits against another human… in a massively single-player galactic smorgasbord of laser-death!! (I had to use that line. I really had to.)

The complete edition includes the original game and three expansions: The Order, The Swarm and The Tribes expansions!

With the release of Source engine on Macs, Valve has decided to push for their entire catalog of Source-based games on the Mac. The games by themselves are nothing short of brilliant with Half Life 2 staying atop Metacritic rankings for PC games not to mention the fact that The Orange Box is also at number 3 (and the original Half Life is at number 4).

Postal 2 Complete: You’re the Dude, dude! Shoot things, buy milk and kill everyone in a queue to return library books! Remember that this hilarious game is only as violent as you want it to be. So while you can play the entire game without (much) bloodshed, you can also play it with unnecessarily large amounts of blood too. Fun!

Painkiller: Black Edition: As one reviewer on the game page says, this is the one true sequel to the original Quake. Paying due homage to old-school FPSs, the game is all about level design, insane and horrifying enemy hordes and oodles of shooting fun! It’s a cult hit and the Black Edition also includes the Battle Out of Hell expansion pack for 3.5GB of gaming insanity!

Redneck Rampage: Crash-land UFOs, cuss at jack o’ lopes in the desert and ride over people in a Swamp Buggy and an armed motorcycle. Oh, did I mention that there was a lot of cussing? Play this hilarious game for weeks of redneck shootin’.

There were your commandos, and there was the mission and the enemies surrounding it. It was sheer brilliance. Commandos 2+3: With advancements in graphics, Pyro Studios did not forget about gameplay. Commandos 2 packed the same amount of cunning and challenge as its predecessor did. However, Commandos 3 did not quite live up to expectations with its control problems. Nevertheless they are both excellent games.

Imperial Glory: Europe is yours for the taking in this time of strife. Do what it takes to gain Imperial glory as you build, maintain and dominate empires. With all the elements of strategy thrown in for good measure, this is a great game by Pyro Studios.

Port Royale: ASCARON’s pirate game was in many ways similar to Sid Meier’s Pirates! but had a little more economy management and less action. With 4 different timelines based on real historical events, this game had quite a lot of piracy involved (no puns intended) when it was released.

Praetorians: The Roman Empire, the battlefields of Egypt, Gaul minus Asterix and Italy during the Crusades. The Praetorians has all this and much more as you prepare yourself for a war of domination during the tumultuous times of the Roman Empire.

The Patrician 1+2: Do not like battles and warfare? Well, The Patrician games are just for you. Two great trading sims set in the backdrop of the Hanseatic League, maritime trade is your profession and piracy and diplomacy are your weapons!

Tropico Reloaded: Political sim? Ah, yes! Tropico was the definitive political simulation game as you controlled your Caribbean banana republic. Fight poverty, rebellions and the occasional urge to rip away your computer in frustration as a tropical storm hits your shores as you play this game!
