Limera1n which is a lifetime jailbreak for all Apple devices from GeoHot exploits a bootrom exploit which the Dev team has been working on, but GeoHot’s announcement to release this to pubic is definitely not going down well with the Dev team.
For a prolog, GeoHot’s decision to quit the jailbreaking scene had similar reactions, from the public though. You might want to read up the comments on this post to learn about it.
Crazy timing that @pod2g got latest exploit just as 4.1 went public (lots of work left…keep away from 4.1 for now!)
A concrete jailbreak for iPhone or Unlock for iPhone is not yet available and the Dev Team even went ahead and posted about the iOS 4.1 update being a trap to possibly permanently get rid of jailbreaks and unlocks, you can read the post here.
There is no release date available on the iOS 4.1 jailbreak, however, considering that iOS 4.1 beta versions were already jailbroken, it might come out sooner than expected.
Apple released the beta for iOS 4.1 earlier today and there have been some rumors that Apple may display a watermark on the phone that it is jailbroken, just like Windows shows a “Not Genuine” alert for PCs.
Also, iOS 4.1 has new encryption technology, that will constantly check if iPhone or iPod touch, have been jailbroken. This is done by digital watermark that appears when iOS is jailbroken, and this watermark cannot be removed, even if reverted to unjailbroken status. Apple store employees will check for the watermark during iPhone service.
However, @MuscleNerd from Dev Team has said that just like earlier rumors about the AT&T OTA jailbreak detector, this “Watermark” encryption is just rumor. This comes from a guy who has been working on jailbreaking the iPhone for quite sometime now.
So rest assured, the Watermark encryption should be not be a problem, and even if it does you can be rest assured that the Dev team will take care of it.
Earlier today, few pictures of iPhone 4 unlock had been posted by the Dev Team, the unlock was achieved by a Dev Team member @planetbeing. He had promised a video of the iPhone 4 unlock and it has now been uploaded to YouTube.
In the video, planetbeing shows off the iPhone 4 soft-unlock and also him being able to use iPhone 4 on another carrier, specifically Rogers Canada. So the upcoming iPhone 4 unlock will allow you to change your carriers with ease. The Dev Team has not announced when the new iPhone 4 Carrier unlock will be available, however, it might hit the internet in the next couple of weeks or so.
