Sprint Rolling Out Minor Software Update For The HTC EVO 3D To Remove Carrier IQ

HTC has started rolling out a new, relatively minor, software update for its first ever-3D phone on Sprint’s network – the EVO 3D. No, its not the Ice Cream Sandwich update which the EVO 3D owners might be hoping for.  The new software update carries the version number 2.17.651.5 and does not bring any major changes, except for a new radio/baseband, improving the battery life and perhaps, most importantly removing the Carrier IQ spyware.

Below is the full change-log of the update -:

+ Removes Carrier IQ

+ Updated Baseband

+ Minor performance improvements

+ Improved battery life

The update is being rolled out via OTA and in stages, so you might not get the update immediately.

An official spokesperson from HTC has also confirmed that the Taiwanese handset manufacturer will be releasing software updates for all of its handsets available under the Sprint network in the coming weeks that will remove the Carrier IQ app. Sprint also confirmed the same and said that software updates to remove Carrier IQ for other handsets under its network are also coming soon.
