At an event in New York, HTC announced its latest addition to its Droid line-up of handsets – the Rezound. From the front, the Rezound looks similar to the Droid Incredible 2, with the typical red accents found in all the recent Beats banded HTC phones. The red accents go deep inside the phone, including a red battery.
The Rezound is the first phone from HTC to come with a 720p HD display. The display measures 4.3-inch diagonally. Inside the Rezound is a 1.5GHz processor from Qualcomm, accompanied by an Adreno 220 GPU. There is also 1GB of RAM, 16GB of on-board memory and a microSD card slot.
On the connectivity front, the Rezound has Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, 4G LTE, GPS with A-GPS, microUSB v2.0 port and much more. At the back of the phone is the same much-improved 8MP camera with an F2.2 sensor found in other recent HTC handsets. The camera can also record videos in 1080p resolution, and comes with other goodies like Panorama mode, Action Burst and Instant Capture.
Like all other recently released HTC handsets, the Rezound also carriers the Beats Audio logo. HTC needs to realize that just tweaking the software on the phone and bundling quality headphones will not please audiophiles. They must use a quality audio chip as well. Software tweaks can only improve the sound quality of a phone to a limited extent. This also means that the Rezound will ship with a pair of quality Beats branded earphones.
The Rezound will ship with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and Sense UI running on top of it, but will get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich by early next year. The handset will hit the retail and Best Buy stores on November 14th, for $299 on a two-year contract.
HTC has just announced a mildly updated version of their sensational handset (Sensation), the HTC Sensation XE. Compared to the Sensation, the Sensation XE boasts a powerful 1.5GHz processor from Qualcomm. The Sensation XE is the first phone from the Taiwanese manufacturer stable to sport the Beats Audio’ tag.
Audio is a crucial part of any consumer’s mobile experience and we are continually pushing the audio boundaries to encompass not only improved voice but music, movies and games, said Jason Mackenzie, president of global sales and marketing, HTC Corporation. The HTC Sensation XE offers a truly incredible experience that demonstrates our commitment to place consumers at the center of their mobile worlds.
The whole phone has a red and black color co-ordination, giving it a very sexy look. Other specs of the Sensation XE remain similar to the original Sensation, which includes 768MB of RAM, and oodles of internal memory. The usual Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS with A-GPS and a bunch of sensors are also present.
The back of the Sensation XE sports an 8MP camera, with a 1.3MP camera in the front accompanying it. The other major difference compared to the original Sensation, the Sensation XE sports a bigger battery. The handset will also come with an 8GB or a 16GB microSD card pre-loaded.
The Sensation XE will also come pre-loaded with an exclusive Beats by Dr. Dre in-ear headphones, which also has an inbuilt microphone and a remote control to play/pause and to skip tracks. The handset will be available in Europe and Asia sometime in late-September.
Hopefully, the Sensation XE has a better inbuilt audio chip compared to the original Sensation. I am also pretty sure the Sensation XE announcement must have pissed off a lot of original Sensation owners.
