Sharp Aquos: The First Android Clamshell. Also the Ugliest

One of the greatest advantages of Android is the variety – you get a huge list of phones to choose from. Android phones have been launched in almost every form factor. There are the standard candybar touchscreen phones, the sliding QWERTY smartphones, the sliding gamepad ones, the candybar QWERTY ones and many more. Until now, we didn’t have any clamshell phones running Android, but Sharp just announced the Sharp Aquos 007SH Android smartphone which comes with a clamshell form factor.

It comes with a 16 MP camera and 720p video recording, and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It also has a 3.4 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. It also comes with Wi-Fi support and HDMI out. It also has a 0.7 inch secondary display and has dimensions of 51.8 × 113 × 19.3 mm with a weight of 140 gms.

Sounds great?

Well, here’s the catch. First of all, it doesn’t have a QWERTY keypad, just a standard numeric one. Secondly, it is ugly. Seriously, have a look.

I don’t know what the designers were thinking, but there is no way I would ever buy anything that looked like this. I doubt anyone else will either.

It will be launching soon in Japan on Softbank Mobile.
