Flipboard 2.0 For iOS Brings Custom Magazines, Read Later And More

Flipboard is an extremely popular news reading app for smartphones and tablets running on the iOS and Android Operating Systems. Flipboard was originally designed for the iPad, which was later updated to add support for the iPhone and iPod Touch followed by Android smartphones and tablets. Flipboard is one of those apps which I’ve been using almost everyday on my iPad.

Flipboard recently released the version 2.0 of this amazing app. The new Flipboard allows you to collect and save articles, photos, audio and video by organizing them into beautiful magazines. You heard it right! Now you can even create you own digital magazines on Flipboard. These magazines can be made public to share them with the Flipboard community or you can choose to make your magazines private.

What’s new in Flipboard 2.0?

  • You can now collect and save content into your own magazines, tap the new “+” button to get started.
  • Your magazines are public, but can be made private (viewable only to you).
  • Use the new bookmarklet to add items to your magazines from your browser.
  • Get Flipboard notifications when people like, comment or subscribe to your magazines.
  • Easily email or share magazines to Facebook, Twitter, G+, etc.
  • Personalized recommendations for more to add to your Flipboard.
  • Search is now front and center on your Flipboard, with new and improved results.
  • Faster page-loading and faster flipping performance.

Flipboard 2.0 has also introduced a new commenting system which allows you to comments on articles and even use @mentions to interact with other Flipboard users. Apart from that, Flipboard also brings new “Flip It” bookmarklet which lets you flip the current page on Flipboard. This update is currently available only for iPad and iPhone users. Android users might have to wait for few weeks before getting their hands-on these amazing new features.

Facebook Messenger For Android Updated; Sign Up With Just Name And Phone Number

We have good news for Android smartphone and tablet users. Facebook recently rolled out a new update for its not-so-popular Messenger app. The latest update brings the ability to sign up with just your name and phone number. You heard it right! Now, even if you have not yet created a Facebook account, you can still use the Facebook Messenger app and connect with your friends on the go.

This feature was already available on the popular cross-platform mobile messaging app, Whatsapp, which allows you to sign up with just your name and phone number. The first countries to get this feature are Australia, India, Indonesia, South Africa and Venezuela. Facebook will roll out this feature for users in other countries in the coming weeks.

Similar to Whatsapp, the Facebook Messenger app allows you to send messages and images to anyone on your phonebook and does not even require a Facebook log-in. Currently, this update is available only for Android users and the company is planning update their iOS app in the coming days.

Twitter For Android And iPhone Updated; Brings Expanded View, Custom Push Notifications

Twitter has just started rolling out a much needed update for the official Twitter app for Android and iPhone. The latest update comes with expanded tweets, push notification for tweets, improvements to search auto-complete, performance improvements, tappable avatars and much more. This update bumps the Twitter for Android to v3.3 and Twitter for iPhone to v4.3.

Earlier, receiving tweets from your favorite users was possible only via SMS. However, the new push notification feature allows you to get notifications from people whom you follow whenever they send a new tweet or re-tweet. You can easily turn on push notifications for tweets for any user via the action button on their profile. This update also brings the expanded tweets feature which allows you to view the image preview or play videos without leaving the app.

The latest version of Twitter app also brings major improvements in search autocomplete which lets you see more suggestions when you are searching for people. Apart from that, you can now visit any user profile just by tapping the avatar. Check out the complete changelog after the break.
