Downgrade iOS 4.1 To iOS 4, iOS 3.1.3, iOS 3.1.2

Apple has just released the beta update for iPhone and iPod Touch users. The new iOS4.1 update aims at fixing the signal woes the iPhone 4 has been facing. In addition to this, the iOS 4.1 update also changes the wrong signal calculation algorithm being used in iOS 4 and adds in new Gaming modules.

However, the problem with iOS 4.1 is that iOS 4.1 jailbreak is only for iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G (Non-MC) models. So if you have updated to iOS 4.1 and now want to downgrade to , then follow the steps given below. Read this if you are looking to downgrade from iOS 4 to iOS 3.1.3 or iOS 3.1.2.

How To Downgrade iOS 4.1 to iOS 4, iOS 3.1.3 or iOS 3.1.2

Step 1: First of all to downgrade from iOS 4.1 to iOS 4 you need the firmware (IPSW) file. After you have got hold of the required IPSW file, you need to put your iPhone/iPod Touch in DFU mode. Keep in mind that DFU mode is different than recovery mode.

Step 2: To put your /iPod Touch into DFU mode, first make sure that iTunes is running on your PC. After that switch off your iPhone/iPod Touch and press the Power and Home button on the device together to put your device in DFU mode.

Now connect your /iPod Touch to your PC using the USB cable. After 10 seconds or so, release the power button whilst holding the Home button. At this point, iTunes should recognize a new USB device, which will be identified as your device after a few seconds. If you have successfully put your phone in DFU mode, then your device screen will display a totally black screen.

Skip to step 4 if you own a iPhone 3G/iPod Touch 2G (Non-MC)

Step 3: This step is only , iPhone 3GS and 3G/2G (MC) owners. Now Users need to use the SHSH blobs of the iOS4 firmware. If you don’t have an SHSH blob of the iOS 4/iOS 3.1.3/iOS 3.1.2 firmware, then you are out of luck. Read this tutorial on how to make a backup of iOS4 SHSH Blobs.

Now users need to edit the hostsfile on their PC by going to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\. Open this hostsfile in Notepad and add the line below to the end of the document:

Now save the file and you are done. Keep in mind that you need to open the hostsfile in administrator mode to make changes to it.

Step 4: Now users need to restore the firmware they downloaded in Step 1 to their iPhone/iPod Touch. To do so, press the Alt key and click on the Restoreoption in iTunes. iTunes will then prompt you to point it to the IPSW file. Select the iOS 4 iPSW file and click on Open.

After this iTunes will do all the work for you. While restoring to the iOS 4 firmware, iTunes might throw in a 1011, 1013 or 1015 error. Just ignore these errors. At the end of the process, the firmware has been successfully restored to your iPhone/iPod Touch device.

5) Now all you need to do is to make your device exit from the Recovery Mode. To do so, users need to download a program called RecBoot. Run that program and just select the Exit Recovery Modeoption and you are done. Your iPhone/iPod Touch will restart on its own and it will now be running on iOS 4.

Jailbreak iOS 4 on iPhone 3GS And iPod Touch 2G/3G With sn0wbreeze 1.7

iH8sn0w has just released a new version of the Sn0wbreeze jailbreaking application. We had told you yesterday that a new version of the Sn0wbreeze application is expected to be released today. The Sn0wbreeze 1.7ios4_logo application now supports iPhone 3GS based on older as well as newer bootroms, along with iPod Touch 2G (MC and non-MC models) and the iPod Touch 3G.

Sn0wbreeze v1.7 is the first jailbreaking application to support iPhone 3GS based on newer bootroms. However, these newer bootroms based iPhone 3GS must be running on iOS 3.1.2 or must have their iOS 3.1.2 SHSH blobs saved. Without either of these, users will not be able to jailbreak their iPhone 3GS on iOS4.

In addition, this jailbreak will be a tethered one, which means users need to connect their iPhone to a PC, whenever they turn it off, to turn it back on. Readers can find the step-by-step guide to jailbreak their iPhone 3GS here.

Apple Publishes Open Letter About iPhone 4 Poor Network Reception Issue

Apparently, the death grip was not the culprit behind the poor network reception of the Apple iPhone 4. Apple has written an official letter to all the iPhone 4 owners with regard to the poor signal strength. The letter saysApple that Upon investigationthe engineers at Apple found that the formulaused to calculate the network strength was wrong.

In many circumstances, the wrong formula, used to display 2 more bars of signal than the actual network strength. To fix this issue, Apple is going to adopt AT&T’s network strength calculation formula. Along with this, Apple is also going to make the network bar 1, 2 and 3 taller so that users can easily see them. Apple is going to release a free software update to fix this issue.

The software update will be available within a few weeks and will use the new network signal formula. This software update will also be compatible with the iPhone 3GS, and the iPhone 3G. Reader’s can read the full letter from Apple here.

Spirit Jailbreak Application Updated To Support iTunes 9.2

The Spirit jailbreak application has been updated to support iTunes 9.2. Other than support for iTunes 9.2, no new features have been added. The Spirit application is one of the easiest way to jailbreak your iPhone/iPodios4_logo Touch or the iPad. Sadly, the Spirit application still does not support iOS4 and/or iPhone 4.

Currently, the Spirit application supports iOS 3.1.3 and 3.1.2 for iPhone 3GS, 3G, and the iPhone 2G. All version of iPod Touch are supported as well. For the iPad, iOS 3.2 is supported. Users who want to jailbreak their iPhone 3GS/3G or iPod Touch running on iOS4 can use either sn0wbreeze or PwnageTool 4.0. On a personal note, I would suggest iPhone 3G owners not to upgrade to iOS 4.

The iPhone 3G does not have enough horsepower to run iOS4 properly. If by chance, you have already updated your iPhone 3G to iOS 4 and want to go back to iOS 3.1.3, follow this guide.

Downgrade iOS 4 to iPhone 3.1.3 on iPhone/iPod Touch

Apple recently released the iOS4 firmware update for the iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPod Touch users. Users updated to the new firmware anticipating new features and improved performance. Nevertheless, for some of them the   opposite occurred, especially for iPhone 3G owners. Most of the iPhone 3G users are reporting very slow performance and applications crashing. The main cause of this problem is the slow processor and the low amount of RAM in the iPhone 3G.

Now there is no official way to downgrade to OS 3.1.3 from iOS4, but there is always an unofficial way. Here are the steps to downgrade from iOS4 to OS 3.1.3 :

1) First navigate to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\and open the hosts’ file in notepad. To do so, right click on the file and select Open With->Notepad. At the end of the document, add this string

2) Now connect your iPhone to iTunes in recovery mode. To do so, first switch off your device. Then press the Home button on your handset and connect the USB cable. As soon as you connect the USB cable, the device will boot up and a Connect To iTunesscreen will be displayed. Users can now stop pressing the Home button.

3) Fire up iTunes now. You will see your iPhone/iPod Touch detected in recovery mode. Now, whilst pressing the Shift key for Windows users or Alt key on the Mac platform, click on the Restore option.

Now just select the original OS 3.1.3 and voila, you are done. Now you can again enjoy OS 3.1.3 on your iTouch device.

Jailbreak iOS 4 on iPhone 3GS/3G And iPod Touch With sn0wbreeze 1.6

A couple of days ago, the folks behind PwnageTool released an updated version of the software which allowed jailbreaking iPhone 3GS/3G and iPod touch running on iOS 4. Now iH8sn0w has released an update for hisApple iPhone 4 jailbreaking application sn0wbreeze. The new version is numbered 1.6.1. The new version allows jailbreaking iPhone 3G, and iPod Touch. iPhone 3GS having the older bootroms are supported.

Newer bootroms based iPhone 3GS are still not supported.  Users should keep in mind that the device must already be jailbroken beforehand. Sn0wbreeze will not be able to jailbreak an iPod Touch/iPhone that is not previously jailbroken. Sadly, neither iOS4 nor sn0wbreeze supports original iPhone and iPod Touch 2G.

In addition, users should keep in mind that the Spirit jailbreaking application is incompatible with sn0wbreeze. Here is the link to the sn0wbreeze application.

White iPhone 4 Missing?

The Apple iPhone 4 has shattered all sales records be they pre-order buys or in-store pickups. However, come delivery time it seems to have hit another snag. The white iPhone 4 is unavailable, only its black sibling is up for grabs. Presumably, black is hot while white is not.

Of course to some, it makes no difference black or white what does it matter? It is still Apple’s newest and coolest baby, carrying all the goodies riding atop an Apple IOS4. To a select few however, the black beauty simply cannot replace the long awaited pristine white iPhone 4.

How did such a snaghappen, one would ask. Apple had this to say,

There is tremendous excitement for the new iPhone 4 and we are working to get as many of them into the hands of customers as possible. At launch, we have the black models available for purchase and we will be adding the white models as quickly as we can.

That really does not shed any light upon the reasons or factors behind this frustrating and nerve-wrenching delay come launch day. At the end, the wait for the lady in white goes on, while we may need to call upon Sherlock Holmes to find the missing lady.

iPhone 4 Pre-Orders Are Randomly Getting Cancelled By AT&T & Apple

It looks like, the Apple iPhone 4, will be the highest selling device ever made by Apple. The pre-orders of Apple iPhone 4 has brought so much pressure on Apple and AT&T, that the pre-orders are now being cancelled randomly. Many people have reported that their orders are cancelled by AT&T and later Apple stopped accepting pre-orders. Gizmodo has reported about the issues faced by many, who pre-ordered iPhone 4.

The problem is caused because of the huge numbers of pre-orders, which caused trouble to the AT&T servers (which was obvious to happen). The AT&T stopped the pre-orders page after many complaints by the customers. People were reporting that they were charged more than once for pre-ordering, privacy breaches and many more freaking complaints.

The Apple store is linked with the AT&T servers, later, the Apple store also went down. Now, Gizmodo has reported people who are complaining that their pre-orders have been cancelled. Below is an image showing a message sent to a customer by AT&T:

AT&T Error Message

A person who called himself a AT&T representative replied Gizmodo, that the pre-orders has not been cancelled, the error messages were shown because the customers hit the submit button more than once.

The issue has became ugly because both Apple and AT&T are playing blame games. I hope within few days the issue will get solved and the people get their pre-ordered iPhone 4. But if it doesn’t then it will be embarrassing for Apple.

Facebook Application For iPod Touch/iPhone Updated

The Facebook application for the iPhone/iPod Touch just got updated. The Facebook application is one of the most popular applications for the iPhone/iPod Touch in the Apple App Store.clip_image001 The updated Facebook application is numbered version 3.1.3. The new version fixes many bugs, as well as adds new features.

The new features of the application include :

* Users can now view videos posted by their friends on Facebook.

* Ability to view and write on walls of events.

* The width of the uploaded photos has now been increased to 720 pixels.

The bugs fix list includes :

* Fixed the bug in which the birthday view showed months in the wrong order.

* Removed the bug where users could not upload pictures smaller than a certain size.

* Fixed the broken photo album link in the News Feed.

What I would really like to see is a Facebook application for the iPad. Even though I can open Facebook from Safari on my iPad, I cannot comment on others status update because the commentbutton is missing. I guess this is due to some incompatibility. Hopefully, Facebook will solve this matter soon or release an iPad version of the Facebook application.
