A Korean newspaper The Korean Herald has reported that Samsung have managed to sell more than 600,000 Galaxy Tab worldwide. The newspaper reports that these numbers have been confirmed from the company itself. Earlier, analysts suggested that the sales of Galaxy Tab is pretty weak worldwide due to its high pricing.
However, the sales figure of the Tab sure has managed to beat the analysts’ prediction. According to the newspaper, the demand for the tablet is higher than its supply in many countries. In its home land Korea Samsung has managed to sell around 30,000 units since the Tab launched on November 14. At its current pace, the sales of Galaxy Tab will be able to meet Samsung’s expectation of 1 million units by the year end.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab has to be the first tablet running Android 2.2 to have sold in such huge numbers. Even though not an iPad killer, the Galaxy Tab sure is a worthy competitor to the Apple iPad.
The Chronic Dev Team released GreenPois0n a few days ago which allows users to jailbreak iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad and iPod Touch 3G/4G. Support for Apple TV and iPod Touch 2G is also on the cards. The GreenPois0n jailbreak is based on the same boot rom exploit as the one used by Geohot in Limera1n. The Chronic Dev Team preserved the SHAtterexploit for future as they did not want Apple to fix two boot rom exploits in one update and thus give them an edge in this cat-and-mouse’ game.
Users who are looking to jailbreak their iTouch device using GreenPois0n should follow the instructions below. However, before proceeding with this jailbreaking process, users should make sure that they do not update their phone to iOS4.1 using iTunes. By doing so, they will update their baseband, thus losing the network unlock for the time being. They are recommended to use TinyUmbrella to update their iTouch to iOS4.1 without updating the baseband.
Here are the steps to jailbreak iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G/4G and iPad :
Step 1) Users should first download GreenPois0n from here. After starting the program, switch off your iTouch device and connect it to your computer’s USB port. After that, press the Prepare to Jailbreak (DFU)’ in GreenPois0n. Users should make sure that iTunes is not running in the background.
Step 2) After that, users need to hold down the Sleep button for 2 seconds. After that while they continue holding the Sleep button, they should press the Home button as well for another 10 seconds. Then they should release the Sleep button whilst holding the Home button for another 15 seconds.
Step 3) Once your iTouch has entered the DFU mode, GreenPois0n will show the Jailbreak’ button. Press the Jailbreak’ button and let GreenPois0n inject its Pois0n on your iTouch. Once the jailbreak is complete, your iTouch device will automatically start up.
Step 4) The final step is to start the Loader’ application found on your iTouch device and install Cydia.
That’s it! Your iTouch is now successfully jailbroken with Cydia installed as well.
Surprise Surprise! The big red a.k.a Verizon is soon going to start selling the Apple iPad. Today, in an official press release Apple and Verizon have announced that the iPad will be available at all Verizon retail stores beginning from October 28. Verizon will be offering only the Wi-Fi equipped models of the iPad. They will also be bundling a Verizon branded Mi-Fi along with it for internet access on the go.
This is the perfect pairing for holiday travels, said John Stratton, chief operating officer for Verizon Wireless. iPad together with the nation’s largest and most reliable 3G data network allows customers to easily connect on the go wherever they are.
The suggest retail price of the 16GB iPad along with the Mi-Fi is $629.99 while the 32GB and 64GB versions cost $729.99 and $829.99 respectively (Mi-Fi inclusive). Verizon will also be offering all the three models of the iPad on a standalone basis. The big red will be charging $20 for up to 1GB of data usage using the bundled Mi-Fi. As you can see, AT&T sells the iPad at a comparatively cheaper rate than what Verizon will be offering it for.
Verizon’s DROID’ advertisement campaign has played a major role in the success of Android and this move from them has surely shocked me. Even after five months of its release, the iPad is still selling like hot cakes. With this move from Apple and Verizon, I expect the sales figure to go crazy!

Today, Apple in a press release has officially announced the release of the iPad in China. The Apple iPad has been an astounding success for Apple. The tablet device has been breaking all sorts of sales record for the Cupertino Company. Even after five months of its launch, Apple is still struggling to meet the demand for the iPad. Apple however has launched only the Wi-Fi sporting models of iPad in China.
It was earlier this summer that Apple had launched its flagship store in Shanghai. The iPad will be available at all the Apple retail stores and authorized Apple resellers from September 17. Users who will be buying the iPad from the Apple retail stores will be getting a free Personal setup service so as to customize their iPad. The 16GB model of the iPad will cost CNY3988 which roughly equals to around $600 while the 32GB version will be available for CNY4788. The top of the line 64GB version will cost CNY5588.
All these prices when converted to U.S dollars are roughly 20% higher than retail price of the iPad in the U.S.
The surprise of the Apple event in San Francisco has been finally revealed. It’s the second generation Apple TV. The new generation of Apple TV is very very small. In fact it’s so small that you can hold it in your palm. At the back of this tiny box lies an HDMI port, an Ethernet port and built in Wi-Fi. The Apple TV also has a very nice remote control.
With the second generation of Apple TV, Steve Jobs also introduced a brand new rental model for the device. Users can rent HD content (when available) for very low prices 99 cent for TV shows and $4.99 for first-run movies. The TV shows will be commercial free as well! Netflix subscriber can also stream content to the Apple TV from their Netflix library. Along with this users can watch YouTube videos in HD, and photos from Flickr and MobileMe. Another option the Apple TV provides is to stream content from your Mac or PC.
The new Apple TV does not have any storage management or a storage disc. It does all the above said stuff via streaming only! The AirPlay feature which Apple will be introducing with the iOS 4.2 update for the iPad will support Apple TV as well. AirPlay feature will allow iTouch device owners to stream media for their iTouch to the Apple TV. The UI of the Apple TV is pretty simple and is mainly oriented at what its meant to do.
Sadly, the Apple TV won’t be supporting any applications which many people expected. The second generation Apple TV will be up for sale in four weeks for a retail price of only $99.
Along with the iOS 4.1 update for the iTouch devices, Steve also gave a sneak peek into the upcoming iOS 4.2. The iOS 4.2 update is meant only for the iPad and brings with it all the features which the iOS 4 brought with it to the iTouch platform. The iOS 4.2 update will include Multitasking, the recently announced Game Center and HDR photos as well. One new feature the iOS 4.2 will incorporate will be AirPlay. Apple has renamed AirTunes to AirPlay and it can now stream a variety of media via Wi-Fi to your iPad.
Here is what Steve Jobs defined AirPlay as-:
Now, what is AirPlay? You know what AirTunes is… listen to music from all over your house from your mobile device. We’re changing the name of AirTunes to AirPlay, and it’s not just music anymore. You can stream all kinds of media anywhere in your house.
Along with this, iOS 4.2 will also bring wireless printing functionality with it to the iPad. According to Steve, the iOS 4.2 update will be rolled out in the month of November for free of cost to all iPad owners.
Apple has just rolled out the iOS 4.1 update for its iTouch devices. The iOS4.1 update fixes tons of bugs present in the iOS4 including the popular Proximity sensor bug on the iPhone 4, Bluetooth bugs and performance issues on the iPhone 3G. Along with this, this update also brings HDR photo to the iPhone.
According to Steve, here is what HDR does :
Let’s start off with HDR photos, what are they? A lot of times when you take a photo, it’s blown out with bright light. Now, when you turn on HDR, it takes 3 photos in rapid succession: one normal, one under exposed, and one under exposed. It combines the three with some pretty sophisticated algorithms…
Another feature which the iOS4.1 update brings onboard is the Game Center. This Center’ is all about playing multiplayer games and challenging your friends to beat your score. The Game Center will also allow users to discover new games.
The Apple iOS 4.1 update will be released for selected iPhone and iPod Touch models next week for free.
The folks over at Electronista managed to shoot a video of the Samsung Galaxy Tab in live testing in Sydney. The Galaxy Tab was caught in a train in the hands of a guy who apparently works for some telecommunication company. The Galaxy Tab has a 7-inch screen with 3G capability, as the video confirms. When the person using the Galaxy Tab was enquired about the device, he only said that the device was awesomeand mentioned that it was quite differentfrom the Apple iPad.
As seen from the above video, the device seems to have a very responsive UI. This indicates that the Galaxy Tab will feature the same 1 GHz Hummingbird processor which currently powers the Samsung Galaxy S. The responsive UI may also indicate that the device is running Android 2.2. The public testing of the Galaxy Tab suggests that the device is pretty close to its launch.
I guess Samsung must be busy applying the final touches to the UI of the Tab, and talking to various network providers for subsidizing the price of the tablet with a 3G contract.
