Apple Releases Smart Cover and HDMI Cable for iPad 2

Along with the iPad 2, Apple also introduced a couple of new accessories for the iPad 2 an HDMI out cable and a cover. The HDMI Out cable will allow users to mirror content from the iPad to their HDTV in full HD resolution, while charging the device!

The cable works with all existing apps and supports rotation as well. The cable will set back users by $39. However, it is the ‘Smart’ cover introduced by Apple for the iPad, which is truly a must have.

This new cover from Apple covers the front of the iPad, and when users open the cover, the cover automatically wakes up the iPad. The cover puts the iPad back to sleep when users put it back on. The cover is made up entirely from magnets, which automatically grasp the iPad 2 and auto-align themselves.

The inside of the cover features a micro-fiber cloth, which cleans the screen of the tablet, whenever you close it. The new cover will be available in five colors including pink, and will be made up of either polyurethane or leather. The polyurethane cover will set you back by $39, while the leather cover will cost users $69.

As of now, it is unknown whether this new ‘Smart’ cover from Apple will be compatible with the original iPad or not.

Apple iPad 2 Unveiled; Is Thinner Than An iPhone 4!

Apple just announced the successor to the highly popular iPad the iPad 2. The iPad was the tablet that kick-started this whole tablet wars and with its successor, Apple aims to stay ahead in this war.

The iPad 2 sports a brand new design, a new and faster dual-core processor dubbed as the A5, which is up to twice as fast when compared to the A4. The graphics core of the A5 chip is up to 9x faster than the PowerVR GPU found on the existing iPad.

The new iPad is only 8.8mm thick! Yes, it’s thinner that the iPhone 4! The tablet also sports a camera at the front (VGA) and at the back. Apple also managed to cut down the weight of the device to 1.3 pounds (Previously, 1.5 pounds).

Unlike the iPhone 4, the iPad 2 will ship in both white and black colors right from day one! The tablet will support both the AT&T and the Verizon network. Even though the iPad 2 sports a faster processor, the battery life remains the same at a whopping 10 hours with over a month on standby.

The iPad 2 will start shipping from March 11 in the U.S, and a bunch of other countries including Australia, Canada and the U.K.   on March 25th.

Apple To Preview iOS 5 At iPad 2 Event Next Week?

It was just a couple of days ago that Apple sent an invite to the media, inviting them to the unveiling of the iPad 2. The event is scheduled to take place next week on Wednesday i.e. on March 2.

Now, one of the highly reliable sources of Engadget reports that Apple may also preview the next version of iOS (v5, in all probability) and may even release the SDK to developers. At the moment, it is unclear as to what all changes the next ‘major’ version of iOS will include, but hopefully a new notification system will be on-board.

Apple will release the new iPad with iOS 4.3 which will feature new four or five fingers based multi-touch gestures for easier multi-tasking. Along with the new multi-touch gestures, iOS 4.3 will also bring mobile hotspot to the iPhone and the iPad (hopefully).

Engadget also reports that due to Engineering issuesthe iPad 2 won’t ship with a higher resolution screen. The microSD card slot has also been shelved from the iPad’s successor.

With a slew of Android 3.0 Honeycomb based tablets being released to the public, the iPad 2 sure needs to have more than beefed up specs to attract consumers.

Apple iPad 2 Event To Be Held On March 2

It’s official! It’s finally official! Apple has just made it official that they will be unveiling the successor to the iPad the iPad 2 on March 2 i.e. next Wednesday. It was just yesterday that rumors were floating around the Internet that the iPad 2 will be unveiled on March 2. Apple sent an invite to all the popular bloggers (Sadly, not me  Sad smile ) out there with the image shown below : Apple_iPad_2 Last year, it was the original iPad from Apple that kick-started this whole tablet wars among manufacturers. It was only at the beginning of this year that we some worthy competitors to the iPad like the Motorola XOOM and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. It is more or less confirmed that the iPad 2 will feature a front-facing camera for Facetime video calling. A faster processor, more RAM and higher storage capacity will also be on-board. Hopefully, Apple will make the iPad 2 lighter compared to its predecessor. The iPad 2 will be compared to all the upcoming Android 3.0 Honeycomb based tablets from different manufactures, so it better be good!

Best Mobile Apps Of The Week for iOS, Android and Symbian – #7

Welcome to the seventh edition of Best Mobile Apps of the Week for iOS, Android and Symbian. In this edition of BMATW, I will introduce our readers to a Fitness app for iOS and a popular third party browser for Android owners. Symbian users will know how to unlock their phone in a fun yet, efficient manner.

Below are the Best Mobile Apps Of The Week For iOS, Android and Symbian :

Fitness Free HD (iOS)

As the name suggests, Fitness Free HD for iPad is a fitness application containing information about more than 300 different exercises. All the exercises have been clearly explained with the help of many pictures and proper text instructions.

The benefits and the difficulty level of each exercise have been clearly explained as well. The app also lists all exercise according to various body parts.

The app also includes some inbuilt Recipes’ which can help a person burn all those fats or prepare him before he hits the gym. A paid version of the application is also available which features more than 700 exercises with video clips. The paid version also includes other goodies like a Calorie counter, Body tracker and BMI (Body Mass Index).

One killer feature of the paid version is that users can get live support from professional coaches! The paid version of the app costs $3.99. The free version of the app can be downloaded from here.

Nokia Bubbles (Symbian)

Today, Nokia released a new application called Bubbles which will help Symbian owners to unlock their phone in a fun, yet efficient manner.

Bubbles’ will appear on the screen if a user presses the Apps’ button whilst his phone his locked. The user can then either have some fun by simply throwing the bubbles away or initiate an action by dragging a bubble to the available drop point.

Below is a video of Nokia Bubbles in action on the Nokia N8 :

At the moment, users can use a bubble to unlock their phone, view an unread SMS, control the music player or the FM radio, call a specific contact or change the phone profile etc.

The application is still in beta so do expect some bugs. The application sure has a very interesting concept and hopefully, the future versions will improve the functionality of this app further. The application only supports the latest Symbian phones from Nokia like the N8, C7 and the C6-01.

The app can be downloaded for free from here.

Firefox 4 (Android)

It was only a couple of days ago that Mozilla released an updated version of Firefox 4 for Mobile for Android and Maemo. Compared to the previous beta releases, this new release of Firefox 4 for Mobile is way better.

The page loading times and the loading time of the application has been reduced drastically. In fact, the Mozilla team says that this new beta version of Firefox 4 is faster than the stock Android browser.

One big advantage of FF4 for Mobile is that it supports plug-ins. As of now, the mobile add-ons gallery for Firefox 4 features more than 100 plug-ins. The app does have its share of downsides including a very heavy memory foot print.

Readers can read more about Firefox 4 for mobile here. Android handset owners can download Firefox 4 for mobile from the Android Market.

Jailbreak iPhone 3GS/iPhone 4/iPad Running iOS 4.2.1 Using GreenPois0n

Up until now, iOS4.2.1 users could only tether’ jailbreak their iTouch device. A tethered’ jailbreak is a temporary jailbreak and will last only until a reboot. After rebooting, the jailbreak will be lost and the user will again need to jailbreak his iTouch using a PC/Mac. Now, the Chronic Dev. Team has finally released a tethered jailbreak for iTouch devices running iOS4.2.1.

Today, the Chronic Dev. Team tool GreenPois0n was updated to RC5 which will allow users to jailbreak their iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G/4G and the iPad running on iOS 4.2.1. Unlike Redsn0w, users don’t need SHSH blobs of any previous iOS version to jailbreak. Users, who already have tethered’ jailbroken their iTouch, can directly use GreenPois0n to jailbreak their device.

iPhone 4 owners who are new to the jailbreaking scene and have unlocked their device are recommended to stay away from this jailbreak. They may accidentally update their baseband while updating to iOS 4.2.1 thus losing their unlock. They are suggested to use TinyUmbrella to preserve their baseband whilst upgrading to iOS 4.2.1.

Sadly, at the moment GreenPois0n is only available for Mac. A PC and Windows version is in the pipeline and should be coming soon. Mac owners simply need to download GreenPois0n from here and follow the on-screen instructions.

Playboy App for iPad to be Available on App Store

Hugh Hefner, the notorious founder of the erotic magazine Playboy, has announced that, come this March, an official Playboy application for the iPad will be available on the App Store.

Hefner’s announcement was made through a tweet on   his twitter account :

Big news! Playboy–both old & new–will be available on iPad beginning in March.

Playboy logo
This was followed by more updates from him mentioning that the Playboy Magazine App will be uncensored. Furthermore, all the editions of the magazine, even past editions will be available on the iPad.

It’s not that the App store currently does not have sexually explicit Apps on the App Store. In fact, there is already   a Playboy app for the iPhone. We have previously covered Apple’s dual policy, where Apple thought it fit to ban 5000 Apps, but did not touch the Playboy app. But having a completely uncensored version for a bigger form factor, like the iPad, is quite another thing.

Could this mean a surge of such applications for the iPad ? Will this eventually penetrate the iPhone and iPod Touch devices too ?

How To Delete Photos From Your iPad

Deleting photos on iPad is not as simple as deleting images from other devices. Yes, you cannot delete photos from your iPad, however, you need to use your PC or Mac and sync your iPad with iTunes in order to delete photos from it. Even when using iTunes, users won’t be able to delete selected images from the iPad. They will have to delete a whole album. The only images which users can delete right from within their iPad are Saved images.

Saved images are those images which a user saves on his iPad while browsing some websites in Safari or via some other applications. Below is a screenshot which shows the Save Image’ option in Safari Mobile.

Below are the steps to delete saved images from your iPad :

1) Open up the Photos’ app on your iPad and navigate to the Saved Photos’ album.

2) If you want to delete multiple saved images, then press the more options button in extreme top right. Then select the images you want to delete by tapping on them and press the Delete’ option at the top.

3) If users only want to delete one specific image, they need to open that image and press the trash’ icon present at the extreme top right and then select the Delete Photo’ option.

There are many third party iPad managing software which may allow users to delete specific photos from the device. However, more often than not these kind of software never work properly.

The only option we iPad owners have is to pray and hope that Apple will soon allow us to delete specific images from Albums in our iPad in a future iOS update.

iOS 4.3 Brings Mobile Hotspot, New Multi-Touch Gestures And Hardware Rotation Lock

Today, Apple seeded the latest Beta version of iOS 4.3 to developers for the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G/4G, iPad and Apple TV 2G. This new version of iOS brings quite a few changes including mobile hotspot. The Personal Hotspot’ feature was first seen in Verizon’s recently announced iPhone 4.

iOS 4.3 also brings in support for AirPlay for third party applications, new multi-touch gestures, a new font Noteworthy’ and iAd Full screen banners.

iOS 4.3 also includes new four or five fingers based multi-touch gestures. A four or five finger swipes left or right will allow users to switch between running apps, while a swipe up or down will bring up the multitasking bar. A pinch on the screen will bring users back to the home screen.

Below is the video showing the new four or five finger gestures on iPad running iOS 4.3 Beta-:

One of the most important changes in iOS 4.3 is the ability to change the Side Switch’ to either mute the device or lock its orientation. Apple had change the side switch orientation lock function to mute the device and was flaked for it. I guess Apple heard all the whining and prayers of their iPad owners and provided users with the mute or lock switch option in the latest version of iOS.

Also with the release of iOS 4.3 Beta 1 and the introduction of new multi-touch gestures, rumors have started floating that the next generation iPad and iPhone won’t sport a Home’ button. In fact, Apple employees are already testing the next generation iPad and iPhone without the Home button.

Apple iPad Comes To India, Officially!

Apple has quietly started shipping it’s most celebrated tablet device – iPad to India. And if you still thought Apple iPad is yet to be available officially in India, better check again! Many Apple’s franchisees in India have just started selling iPads. However there is a catch to it – you have to buy the iPads in bulk.

The Economic Times did it’s own follow ups and found out that an Apple reseller at Delhi’s Connaught Place has already supplied bulk orders to corporates like HCL, IndiaBulls, Protiviti and Bajaj Hindustan.   The price currently quoted is Rs 33,000 for a 16GB model and Rs 54,000 for a 64GB 3G model. This includes with warranty and the pay invoice. The dealer also said that they supplied 25 pieces to IndiaBulls. In order to place the bulk order, you have to give the dealer a two days notice period and an advance payment.

The fact that Apple resellers in India are currently selling the iPads to corporate customers and that too in bulk became more   concrete when The Economic Times got in touch with another store at Noida’s Sector 18 which initially   said that iPads haven’t been launched in India. But when the same store was approached later as a corporate customer   the store said they will source the iPads from Hong Kong through an importer.
