It is a very well-known fact that the Gaming section on the Android Market hardly contains quality’ games. Yes, there are some quality games for Android like Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja but that’s about it. Gameloft does offer some brilliant gaming titles for Android like Dungeon Hunter, Lets Golf HD and H.A.W.X etc. but sadly the company does not list its games on the Android Market. The company sells its games via its own store which is very very bad.
However, all this is soon going to change as EA has started releasing some quality’ games into the Android Market. Today, the company released the Need For Speed: Shift game into the Android Market for only $4.99. Earlier, NFS: Shift was available exclusively for a few Android handsets. EA also plans on bringing more high quality 3D games into the Android Market next year including NFL Madden 2011.
Here is a video of NFS: Shift in action on the Samsung Galaxy S -:

Talking about Gameloft, the company has also released a brand new quality’ game for Android handsets Spider-man: Total Mayhem HD. Users can download the game from the Gameloft store for $4.99. However, looking at the pathetic state of the Gameloft store I would recommend users to stay away from purchasing this game.
Angry Birds is one of the biggest mobile app success stories of all times. It was first released on the iOS platform, priced at $0.99. It passed 10 million downloads back in November, just on the iPhone.
Rovio Mobile, the creator of Angry Birds, also released it on Android on October 15. This time around, it released it for free, the only price which works well on Google’s Android platform. Like most developers, it hoped to make money off advertising. It just passed 7 million downloads a week back.
Today, Google Mobile Ads just released a Youtube video marketing Angry Birds as one of the most successful apps using its mobile advertising platform. Apparently, by the end of the year, Angry Birds for Android will be netting Rovio over $1 million per month in mobile ad revenue.
These figures indicate that Rovio would make more money on Android than on any other platform.
We had earlier confirmed that the special Christmas Edition of Angry Birds will indeed be available on Android (along with the iPad and iPhone versions). We had expected Rovio to release the game on the Angry Birds Day (Dec 11). However, they have done better than that, and Angry Birds Seasons is now available in the Android Market.
Angry Birds Seasons includes 25 special Christmas themed levels to kill time as you wait for Christmas. A new level will be unlocked every day, until Christmas. As a surprise gift, Rovio has also tucked in the Halloween themed levels that Android users had missed out on.
As mentioned earlier, Angry Birds Christmas edition is also planned for the iPad and the iPhone. The App Store’s verification process is the most likely culprit for the delay in the release of the iOS version. Rovio has also reaffirmed that they will be releasing a light-weight version for lesser Android phones and an ad-free version.
Angry Birds Seasons for Android is also a free download. You can grab it directly from the Market or through AppBrain.
It’s not as if any of us need more proof of Angry Birds’ insane popularity, but Rovio has revealed that Angry Birds for Android has hit 7 million downloads. The download figure is possibly slightly inflated due to updates; however, it is still phenomenal. The fact that Angry Birds for Android is free (ad-supported), unlike in other platforms, obviously helped in a big way. Rovio had earlier reported that they had crossed the 1 million download count within the first 24 hours of release.
The aforementioned revelation came in response to questions regarding Angry Birds’ pricing strategy. Rovio obviously believes they will benefit more by offering a free ad-supported version. However, if you hate advertisements, fret not. A paid version of Angry Birds for Android will be launched soon.
Earlier in the week, we confirmed that Rovio Mobile is preparing to release Angry Birds Christmas edition for iPhone, iPad and Android. However, that’s not all that they have in store for us. Rovio had hinted that something else is in the pipe. We speculated that it might be the arrival of the “Mighty Eagle” on the Android. However, now it seems that it might be something entirely different.
Yes, Mighty Eagle is scheduled to make an appearance, as soon as Google gets its Market sorted out and enables in-app purchases. However, that is definitely not the big new thing Rovio is preparing for. It isn’t the console ports of Angry Birds either. TechCrunch Europe had speculated that Rovio might be working on something disruptive.
We can confirm that it is something that Rovio believes will be a big deal. Their exact words to us were, “There’s another REALLY big and new project underway”. Rovio is working on its own gaming network (think Xbox Live or Open Feint). However, that won’t be ready by 11th December, which is the Angry Birds day, and the date on which Rovio is expected to make the big announcement.
So exactly what is Rovio Mobile working on? They won’t tell us. However, it’s definitely not a new game, or mighty eagle for Android, or even Rovio’s gaming network. Let the guessing begin. What do you think Rovio is working on?
Generally, popular games proceed from the PC or console up and make their way into a cheap/non-cheap knockoff on the mobile platform. This time, the story has been reversed. The mobile gaming platform has gained some credibility over the last few years and now, we have a mobile game moving on to the big screens.
Angry Birds is the most popular mobile game with over 36 million downloads and has been rated as the #1 app in more than 60 countries. This would be the perfect time to take this game to the next level and Rovio is on it. They are developing a version of Angry Birds for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii.
Rovio chief executive Peter Vesterbacka said,
The smartphone gaming platform is actually turning out to be the biggest and most played out there. So it’s starting to beat the traditional games on consoles and PCs.
The game is so popular on mobile devices that Android users envied iPhone users for having it and when it was released for Android, it registered a million downloads in a single day. A plan for Angry Birds 2 was also revealed by Vesterbacka.

Angry Birds has blitzkrieged the iTunes App Store, Android Market and several other app repositories, and it is showing no signs of slowing down. Rovio Mobile has stated that they don’t want to do a sequel, but they have been cleverly tapping into the cash cow that is Angry Birds with special holiday editions. After an immensely popular Halloween edition, Rovio is now preparing to release a special Christmas edition of Angry Birds.
According to the Finnish site MTV3 (and PocketLint), Angry Birds Christmas edition will be launched on Dec 11. Although the website confirms simultaneous releases for both iPhone and iPad, it is silent on the availability of the special edition on Android.
Given that Android users had missed out on the Halloween edition of Angry Birds, I requested confirmation from Rovio through Twitter. In response to my query regarding the availability of Angry Birds Christmas Edition on Android, @roviomobile tweeted back “and not only that;-)”, which pretty much confirms that Angry Birds Christmas Edition will be available on Android. The tweet also hints that something more is in the pipe for Android users. Based on the information available at hand, I am guessing that we will be seeing the “Mighty Eagle” make an appearance on Android. What do you think? Are you also an Angry Birds addict? Will you be willing to pay for a Christmas edition of Angry Birds?
Angry bids is a marvel of a mobile game and has recorded a #1 position as the most popular iPhone game in over 60 countries. It has been released for the iPhone, for Android and the developers also have a plan to release the game for smaller Android devices like the HTC Wildfire. This clearly shows how popular the app is. Seeing the popularity on leading mobile operating systems, the game was also released on Symbian and is the most popular game on the Ovi store. In short, Angry birds is out on a world conquest.
This is a spoof video of Angry birds. If you have played or seen Angry Birds, you will find this video hilarious. The video originally featured in Hebrew and was remade in English seeing its worldwide demand.
A price tag of a dollar for a game with around 100 levels is the best deal you can get. So, if you have not played the game until now, get your hands on it and join the fun.
Angry Birds for Android has been making a lot of Android users happy with its addictive and fun gameplay. It raked in 1 million downloads within the first 24 hours, and has been going strong ever since. Unfortunately, Angry Birds doesn’t work perfectly on some Android handsets. Although the game is not as demanding as some of the other games (especially the gameloft ones), it does require a decent processor. As a result, users with an old or a low-end Android handset, might experience performance issues.
The handsets that are not officially supported by Rovio Mobile (developers of Angry Birds) include HTC Hero, HTC Tattoo, HTC Wildfire and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini among others. Fortunately for users of these phones, Rovio doesn’t intend on ignoring them. They are currently working on a lightweight version of Angry Birds, which will be optimized for devices with less processing power. Rovio has indicated that the light version will have the same number of levels as the original Angry Birds for Android.
