Angry Birds Star Wars Released for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, PC, and Mac

After teasing us for several weeks, Rovio has finally released Angry Birds Star Wars. Angry Birds Star Wars is a peculiar mashup of one of the most popular movie franchises of all time with one of biggest gaming franchises of the recent past.

Angry-Birds-Star-Wars

Angry Birds Star Wars features gameplay elements from both classical Angry Birds and Angry Birds Space, but pushes both of them to the next level. Your favorite birds have been re-dressed keeping in mind the Star Wars universe and can now emit force fields, wield light-sabers, and shoot bullets.

As always, there are plenty of varied levels to keep you hooked. Rovio promises more than 80 levels in various Star Wars inspired locations like Tatooine and the Pig Star. To conquer these levels, you will have to dodge Imperial pigs, laser turrets, Tusken Raider pigs, and the dark side of the Force.

Angry Birds Star Wars costs $0.99 on iOS for the iPhone version and $2.99 for the iPad version. The Android version is free, but has advertisements. If you want to get rid of the ads, you can get rid of them through $0.99 in-app purchase. Interestingly enough, Rovio is also offering something called Angry Birds Star Wars HD for $2.99, which looks just like the other Android version sans the ads. Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 editions can be purchased from respective Stores for $4.99. It is also available on PC for $4.95, and on Mac for $4.99.

List Of Apps On Sale At Google Play 25 Cent Sale Today

As expected, the Google Play 25 cent sale to celebrate 25 billion app downloads has finally started. While it is unknown how many apps will go on sale every day for the next five days, more than a handful of apps have already had their price reduced to 25 cents.

Below are the list of apps and games that have gone on sale, along with my suggestion if you should buy them or not -:

  • Granny Smith – The game was recently released on the Play Store, and if you have not purchased it yet, now is the time. Highly recommended!
  • Draw Something – Ever since Zynga acquired Draw Something, the game’s popularity has gone down substantially. Since Draw Something is a multiplayer game, check with your friends before buying this game. I will recommend readers to skip the game even at this tempting price.
  • Asphalt 7: Heat – Gameloft: Check. Huge download size (1.37GB): Check. Drool worthy graphics: Check. Tempting price: Check. What are you waiting for then? Go ahead and buy Asphalt 7!
  • Tasks: One of the best Task management apps available in the Play Store, with Holo theme and expandable notifications for Jelly Bean users. Must buy!
  • OfficeSuite HD: For me, OfficeSuite HD ranks second only to QuickOffice in the best mobile office on-the-go app. There is only a single version of the app that is optimized for phones as well as for tablets. Buy!
  • Angry Birds Space: Premium – I am not really a huge Angry Birds fan, but if you are, then this is a no-brainer!
  • Ocean HD – If you are into live wallpapers, then go ahead and buy this live wallpaper. I usually don’t use live wallpapers since they tend to slow down the phone, so if you are a new user, I will recommend you to stay away.
  • Cloud and Sheep Premium – If you have a little one around who loves to play games on your phone, then buy this game. Else don’t!
  • runtastic Pro – I am personally an Endomondo user, but runtastic is an excellent alternative to Endomondo, especially at this price.
  • Symphony Of Eternity – Buy it only if you are an RPG fan.
  • Let’s Create! Pottery – Create virtual pottery items in this game that features some excellent graphics.
At the moment, these are the only apps and games that I can find whose prices have been reduced to 25 cents. I will add more apps and games, if I find any.
Do drop in a comment and let us know if you found an app that is on sale, and is not on the list.

After the success of highly popular Angry Birds game, Finnish game maker Rovio finally launched the much awaited Amazing Alex. Nokia Provides More Evidence of Being the “real” Windows Phone Maker

Nokia Lumia 900

On May 8, at the CTIA Wireless 2012 show in New Orleans, Nokia announced that they are partnering with a bunch of top-tier brands to bring their various apps and games to Windows Phone, with a lot of those apps and games being exclusive to Nokia’s Lumia line of Windows Phones.

Some of the highlights from their press release:

PGA Tour (exclusive to Lumia for 12 months)

In addition to live tournament scoring, highlights and player information, the app provides interactive, augmented coverage of select events and holes, showing each player’s exact position and scoring information. This allows fans to “get inside the ropes” and follow all players competing on the PGA TOUR.

ESPN (exclusive to Lumia until May 2013)

This app already exists on the Lumia devices, and is in addition to the ESPN ScoreCenter app that is available to all Windows Phones. The Lumia app will see some functionality updates and in addition, the ESPN Fantasy Football app (another Lumia exclusive) will be made available later in the Fall to align with the NFL season.

Rovio

After a back-and-forth on whether they are going to build Angry Birds Space for Windows Phone or not, Rovio is now building a dedicated design and development team to create games for Lumia and other Windows Phone devices. That’s quite a scoop for Nokia from the rather negative start that the game maker had with Microsoft and Windows Phone.

Nokia and Rovio will partner to develop innovative new consumer products and content exclusively for Nokia Lumia smartphones, alongside cross platform multi-channel integrated marketing initiatives.

EA

EA will be bringing some of their most popular titles to Lumia and other Windows Phones, including FIFA, Madden NFL, NBA Jam, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR®, Mirror’s Edge and Yahtzee to add to the several titles they already have in the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Groupon (exclusive to Lumia for 6 months)

There is already an official Groupon app which is going to get some major updates, including a cool and innovative augmented reality feature to find deals near you.

Tripdots (exclusive to Lumia for 3 months)

Tripdots helps vehicle owners optimize their driving behaviors while connecting with other vehicle owners and sharing driving efficiency achievements via social networks. The app lets users monitor the operation of their vehicles to enable cost savings through better understanding fuel economy.

PayPal

Yet another “key” app missing in the Windows Phone ecosystem is for the popular PayPal service. PayPal is going to work with Nokia to not only bring their app to Windows Phone, but also use functionality like Live Tiles to enhance the user experience.

AOL Entertainment Hub (exclusive to Lumia for 3 months)

Whether you want to listen to one of 55,000 radio stations via SHOUTcast, stream free music albums with AOL’s Listening Party or view Trailers and Movie listings, the AOL Entertainment Hub delivers everything you need.

Yet another app where Live Tiles are going to be used to enhance the user experience:

“The live tiles on Nokia Lumia helped us create an awesome app that makes it easy to stay in the know on what’s happening in Film, TV, Radio, Concerts and Music right from your home screen,” said Sol Lipman, Director of Mobile First products at AOL.

TIME magazine

Utilizing the stunning Windows Phone UI, the app will enable users to view TIME.com content, receive breaking news alerts, watch rich media content including video and share stories via the Windows Phone People Hub, while delivering the latest news and stories to users first via Live Tiles.

Newsweek – The Daily Beast

The Daily Beast app delivers the latest content through Live Tiles and combines the unique style of The Daily Beast with the Windows Phone UI to deliver a stunning experience. For users who only have minutes to digest the latest news, the app also delivers The Cheat Sheet – your one stop must have reads from across the world – uniquely designed for Windows Phone.

Box app for Windows Phone

Box, another oft-requested app, will finally come to Windows Phone with support for nine languages.

Angry Birds Updated To Add 15 New ‘Surf and Turf’ Levels

Over the last couple of years, Angry Birds went from being just a popular iOS game to a following. In fact, the game became so popular that even a movie was made based on the game – Rio. As time went by, Rovio updated the original Angry Birds with new levels, released it for free on Android, and later on released many different versions of the game with a different theme like Angry Birds Seasons, Rio and the latest version, Space.

With so many versions of the game, not many people thought that Rovio would update the original Angry Birds to add new levels to the game. However, last night Rovio updated the original Angry Birds to add 15 new levels to the game. The new levels are called Surf and Turf, and as the name implies, the theme will be based on beach.

In other app related update news, Google also updated two of its apps last week, Google+ and Google Wallet. The updates for both the app don’t bring any new features or changes, but mainly aim at improving the security and performance of the app. The Google+ app update also supports hash tags in stream, along with better sharing with third party apps. Both the apps can be downloaded from Google Play for free.

Android Users, Beware of Fake Infected Versions of Angry Birds Space

Angry Birds Space, the latest version of the popular Angry Birds game was released and made available for download on March 22. Just three days after its launch, the latest addition of the game was downloaded over 10 million time worldwide.

With such an overwhelming response from Angry Birds fans, hackers decided to take advantage of it by releasing a fake version of the Angry Birds Space infected with a Trojan horse virus in it. The new virus identified as Andr/KongFu-L is masking itself as the popular Angry Birds Space game for Android.

The virus was first identified by security researchers, Sophos and Graham Cluley, security expert and researcher at Sophos, noted Android users about it in a blog post stating that they had discovered fake versions of the game on unofficial app stores.

SophosLabs recently encountered malware-infected editions of the “Angry Birds Space” game which have been placed in unofficial Android app stores.

Fake Angry Birds Space

The fake version of the game consists of a Trojan horse virus in a file called Andr/KongFu-L, which appears to be a fully-functional version of the popular smartphone game, but uses the GingerBreak exploit to gain root access to the device, and install malicious code.

It has the following aliases –

  • HEUR:Backdoor.AndroidOS.KungFu.a
  • Backdoor.AndroidOS.KungFu.kg

Once the fake application is installed, hackers can easily go on to send instructions to the device to visit some URLs from the default browser of the device and go on to take advantage of this.  That is, the Trojan is designed to communicate with a remote website in an attempt to download and install further malware onto the compromised Android smartphone.

At this point, there is no fix available to infected users. However, all Android users are asked to be careful while downloading games and application to their devices. Angry Birds Space is available for download at Google Play, Google’s Android app store. Rovio also warned Android users about this fake version of the game in a blog post, and insisted them to download the new game from their official store.

NASA and Samsung Team Up To Promote Angry Birds Space

It is not technically a “teaming up” because it’s mostly Samsung promoting its Galaxy Note device and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration of the USA providing some kid-friendly zero gravity physics demonstrations. However, the end result is a very odd pairing that can only bring more downloads for Rovio’s seminal casual gaming hit Angry Birds.

Announced after a short intro on trajectory physics aboard the International Space Station (ISS), Angry Birds Space will release on the 22nd of March, 2012 and will have the familiar birds hunting down the greedy green pigs once again in a sci-fi space setting with some gravity twists. Think Blast Off! mixed with Catapults and released on pretty much every casual gaming platform around.

angrybirds

Don Pettit, a flight engineer aboard the ISS, explains how trajectories matter for space travel as well as Angry Birds since the birds are nothing more than projectiles. The ISS, might we remind you, is orbiting the Earth about 391 kilometers above it and can sometimes be seen as a slow-moving “star” from our vantage point in the ground.

I do not know how Rovio managed to pull this one, but it is quite a brilliant publicity campaign for a generally average game that was at the right place at the right time. Will you be playing Angry Birds Space?

Angry Birds Lands on Facebook

After a huge wait, the Famous have finally landed on allowing over 800 million users to start hunting those pigs who stole the birds eggs.

Play Angry Birds Facebook

There is not doubt that Angry Birds is one of the most famous games to come out in past few years. It is a simple enough game where you as a bird have to destroy all the pigs to avenge them for stealing your eggs and move ahead to the next stage.

Angry birds was available for , Windows Phone 7 on windows desktop and on Google Chrome as well. However, it was missing on one of the biggest platforms on the web; Facebook. Rovio had initially announced that Angry Birds would be available for Facebook in March 2011, but it took them almost a year to actually do that.

The gameplay remains similar to the app, however, with the Facebook app you will be able to share your high scores with friends and also play along with friends. If you can’t wait, you can start enjoying the game right away by visiting the Angry Birds Facebook App and granting it appropriate permissions. Happy Pig Bashing.

Osmos HD and Resident Evil 4 Now Available For Android; Angry Birds Season Gets An Update

In the last week, quite a few Android games got updated and a couple of popular games landed on the Market as well.

Firstly, the all popular and highly addictive Osmos HD is now available for Android handsets and tablets. The iOS version of the game has won the Game Of Year award from Wired, 148Apps, Apple and more. The game supports multi-touch, and has a unique physics based gameplay. The developer is also celebrating the launch of the game by releasing the game at a sale price of $2.99. Here is the link to purchase the game from Android Market.

In other Android gaming related news, Rovio has released an update for Angry Birds Season. The theme of the new update is ‘Year of the Dragon’ and celebrates the spirit of Chinese New Year. The Mighty Eagle has transformed into Mighty Dragon and is available for free to everyone for this particular episode. The Year of the Dragon update for Angry Birds Season can be downloaded from here.

The biggest gaming related news in the Android ecosystem is the release of Resident Evil 4 for the OS. This is the first game of the franchise to be available for Android OS. Sadly, the game is not available for all Android handset owners to download. At the moment, the game is available only for the LG 4G LTE U+ handset owners to download. Hopefully, the exclusivity period of the game will end soon and the developers will release it on the Android Market for all Android owners to enjoy.

Fruit Ninja Goes Free; Falling Fred Hits The Android Market

Fruit Ninja from HalfBrick Studios was among the first iOS games to be available for Android. The game is among the top 5 best sellers in the Android Market, and costs $1.99.

Now, looking at its popularity, HalfBrick Studios has released a free version of Fruit Ninja, with ad-support. This move from HalfBrick, and Rovio’s decision to release Angry Birds for free on the Android Market, clearly shows that free apps with ad-support generate more revenue that their paid counterparts for developers. The free version of Fruit Ninja can be downloaded from here.

In other gaming related news, another popular game for iOS Falling Fred has hit the Android Market. The game has quiet a high amount of violence and gore, so weak hearted people should stay away. In this game, users need to dodge the falling Fred from obstacles, and try to keep him alive.

Falling_Fred

The game has a simple plot, yet it’s highly addictive. The graphics of the game are top-notch as well. The game is available for free on the Android Market. However, there are many more characters in the game, which users need to purchase via the in-app purchase option.

Falling Fred requires Android 2.2+ to work. The game can be downloaded from here.

Angry Birds Question in Physics Exam

We have all come to love and have been playing the game on , , PSP, Desktop, Chrome and most recently Windows Phone 7 devices. In fact, we are also so crazy about it that we have been buying some cool Angry Birds merchandise as well.

As you can see, those tiny little birds have taken the world by storm and are in every nook or corner possible. In fact, there are even movies being made on them. So will this be the end? Apparently not. Some school decided to actually use Angry Birds as a question in their physics paper.

The question was no joke and could fetch students 7 marks. This is definitely something. Incidentally, there have also been other instances where teachers have used Angry Birds to teach physics to students.

Angry Birds Now Available for Windows Phone 7

Hurry! Angry Birds is now available in the Windows Phone Marketplace. After the initial announcement by the game developers, Rovio, in February and Microsoft in May, and later pushing the announced date in June to June 29, Angry Birds has finally landed. The game also ends the Xbox’s Must Have Game series for Windows Phone.

Angry Birds for Windows Phone 7

The best-seller game, inspiring merchandise, popular culture references, and rumors have it that a movie too, offers hours of challenging, physics-based demolition gameplay, and lots of replay value. Angry Birds is one of the most popular iPhone and iPad apps, ported to Google’s Android OS a few months back, and also released as a PC game recently. Last month, Rovio released an Angry Birds version for Google Chrome browser as a featured app on Chrome Web Store.

Instead of 255 levels available for other platforms, Angry Birds for Windows Phone 7 offers only 165 levels. Each of the 165 levels require logic, skill, and brute force to clear. It’s just few games as yet, but I have a feeling that Angry Birds for Windows Phone 7 is a little harder than on other platforms. I’m guessing additional levels will be made available as updates.

The game offers Xbox LIVE integration so killing pigs would add to your Xbox LIVE achievements. Angry Birds is free to try and $2.99 to buy. Get dem pigs!

N.O.V.A. 2 HD Hits the Android Market; Angry Birds Seasons Summer Pignic Update Released

Gameloft, which offers some of the most popular gaming titles on the Android Market, has released a new FPS based game N.O.V.A. 2 HD.

The N.O.V.A. 2 HD is the sequel to the original N.O.V.A. game, and like the original, features breath-taking 3D graphics. The game features more than 10 different maps, and also supports multi-player gaming over Wi-Fi as well as 3G.

At the moment, the game supports only a handful of Android handsets including the HTC Desire HD, Inspire 4G, Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab 7, and the LG Optimus 2X. The game does not support the older generation Qualcomm chipset powered handsets including the EVO 4G and the Nexus One.

Surprisingly, the game does not support two of the hottest Android phones at the moment   – the Samsung Galaxy S II and the HTC Sensation.   The game can be downloaded from the Android Market for $6.99.

In other gaming related news, Rovio has updated Angry Birds Seasons with a new Summer Pignic’ episode. The new update brings 15 new levels, with a summer theme as backdrop. With this update, Angry Birds Seasons now has a total of 105 levels. 105 levels to kill your productivity!

The game is already available on the Android Market, and can be downloaded from here.
