HTC Unveils The Entry-Level Desire U Smartphone

HTC recently unveiled a new entry-level smartphone, the HTC Desire U. The design of this device looks similar to the phones previously launched phones under the HTC One family of smartphones. The HTC Desire U will be shipped with the outdated Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) Operating System. We are not sure, if this device will ever taste the Jelly Bean update. However, Desire U is a great replacement for the company’s current entry-level smartphone, the HTC Explorer.

HTC Desire U features a 4 inch WVGA touchscreen display, sporting a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, 1 GHz single-core processor, Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) OS, HTC Sense 4 UI, 5 megapixel rear-facing camera with auto-focus and LED flash, 3.5 mm headset jack, Beats Audio, Bluetooth 4.0, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB internal memory, MicroSD card slot, 32 GB internal memory, Google Play Store, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, 3G Connectivity, A-GPS and a 1650 mAh battery.

The HTC Desire U will first go on sale in Taiwan and China, followed by other emerging markets including India. The price of this device is expected to be around $275.

Lava Launches The Intel Lexington Powered Xolo X500 For Rs.8,999

Lava was the first handset maker to launch a smartphone based on Intel’s Medfield platform. Today, the Indian mobile phone manufacturer launched its second Intel powered smartphone, the Xolo X500. This handset is based on Intel’s Lexington platform reference design. Sadly, the entry-level Xolo X500 runs on the old Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) Operating System.

Lava Xolo X500 features a 3.5 inch HVGA touchscreen display, sporting a resolution of 480 x 320 pixel, 1.2 GHz Intel Atom Z2420 processor with Hyper Threading technology, 400 MHz GPU, Dual-SIM capabilities, 5 megapixel rear facing camera, full HD (1080p) video playback and much more.

It also comes with a 3.5 mm headset jack, 4 GB internal memory, MicroSD card slot, 32 GB expandable memory, Bluetooth 2.1, A-GPS support, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, 3G Connectivity, Micro USB, 512 MB RAM, Google Play Store, 15 days of stand-by time and a 1500 mAh battery.

Lava Xolo X500 comes with a price tag of Rs.8,999 (approx. $170). This handset will go on sale starting next week in India. Xolo X500 will not only compete with entry level Android smartphones from Micromax, Huawei, Sony and HTC, but it will also face a tough competition from Windows Phone 7.8 powered Nokia Lumia 510.

Samsung Galaxy Grand With 1.4 GHz Quad-Core Processor Announced In South Korea

Samsung has already announced the international variant of the Galaxy Grand smartphone. Earlier this week, the South Korean manufacturer has even launched this device in India. Today, Samsung has finally announced the Galaxy Grand for its home market. However, this variant is slightly different from the international variant. The Samsung Galaxy Grand will comes with a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor and VoLTE connectivity, instead of 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and 3G connectivity. Sadly, there is no change to the disappointing screen resolution.

The South Korean variant of Galaxy Grand features a 5 inch touchscreen display, sporting a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, 1.4 GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) OS, TouchWiz UI, 8 megapixel rear camera with auto-focus and LED flash, full HD (1080p) video recording and playback, 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera for video calls and so on.

It also comes with a 3.5 mm headset jack, FM Radio with RDS, GPS with A-GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, S-Pen, S Note, S Planner, Samsung Hub, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, VoLTE Connectivity, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal memory, MicroSD card slot, 64 GB expandable memory, DLNA, Google Play Store, Wi-Fi Direct and a 2100 mAh battery.

Samsung has not yet announced the price of this device. However, the price is expected to be slightly higher than the international variant. This device will be available across all three major carriers – SKT, LG U+ and KT in Marble White color.

Samsung Announces The Galaxy S II Plus Smartphone

Samsung Galaxy S II needs no introduction! It is the successor of the original Galaxy S and the first Android smartphone to cross the 10 million mark. This handset was originally launched with the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) OS and the newer Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) update is already on its way.

ZTE Grand S Announced; Comes With 5 Inch 1080p Display, S4 Pro, 2 GB RAM

Last year, the images and specs of the ZTE Grand S was leaked a number of times. Recently, the Chinese mobile phone manufacturer finally launched its very own 5 inch smartphone, the ZTE Grand S at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013 in Las Vegas. This handset runs on the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) Operating System and it packs a 5 inch 1080p display (similar to the recently launched Xperia Z), 1.7 GHz quad-core processor and 2 GB of RAM.

ZTE Grand S is currently the slimmest 5 inch smartphone with just 6.45 millimeters thickness. Sadly, this handset comes with a 1780 mAh non-removable battery. We have no idea what the manufacturer was thinking before creating this beast with such a disappointing battery.

Huawei Ascend D2 Announced; Comes With 5 Inch 1080p Display, 13 MP Camera

Huawei was already expected to launch a phone/tablet hybrid device. Today, the Chinese mobile phone manufacturer finally unveiled the new Huawei Ascend D2 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2012 in Las Vegas. This device runs on the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) Operating System and it comes with a 5 inch 1080p Full HD IPS+ display, 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, 13 megapixel camera and so on. This handset is protected by the anti-scratch Corning Gorilla glass and the dust and water resistant IPX 5/4.

This device is touted to be a “smartphone with the largest screen in the world”. If you were looking for a smartphone larger than the Galaxy Note II, but smaller than the Nexus 7 tablet, then your search finally comes to an end. The Huawei Ascend Mate comes with a 6.1 inch HD display. You heard it right!

As expected, Sony finally released the much-awaited Xperia Z smartphone at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013 in Las Vegas. This handset comes with some powerful specs including a 5 inch Full HD 1080p display, 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, 13 megapixel fast-capture camera and much more. Sony Xperia Z is a water and dust resistant smartphone with a durable glass display. It also features Exmor RS for mobile, the world’s first image sensor with HDR (High Dynamic Range) video for smartphones.

Alcatel is popularly know for manufacturing cheap and entry-level smartphones. Today, the company surprised everyone with the launch of Alcatel One Touch Idol and One Touch Idol Ultra smartphones at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013 in Las Vegas. The Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra is touted to be the world’s thinnest smartphone with just 6.45 millimeters thickness. This device breaks current market records of Vivo X1 which measures 6.55 mm thick.

The price of One Touch Idol will be announced soon. These smartphones are not expected to arrive in the European and American markets anytime soon.
