Nvidia Announces Five New Tegra 3 Optimized Games At E3; Completely Forgets About Tegra 2

Last night Nvidia kicked off its E3 event at the Los Angeles Convention Center by announcing five new games for Tegra 3 powered Android handsets. All the five games announced by Nvidia – Dead Trigger, Puddle THD, Demon’s Score THD, Bounty Arms, and Heroes Call – have been specifically optimized to take advantage of Nvidia’s latest quad-core SoC and provide a stunning and immersive graphics.

Dead Trigger comes from the maker of Shadowngun, and is a FPS (first-person shooter) where the user needs to survive by killing the zombies. The game will also be released for non-Tegra handsets, but the Tegra version will contain some exclusive effects like enhanced water, specular lighting, volumetric fog and ragdoll physics.

Puddle THD is an interesting game where the user needs to guide the water to a target through tilt controls, and is already available for Xbox and Playstation gaming consoles. The Tegra 3 version of the game will contain higher resolution texture, advanced fluid effects, better shadows and advanced physics effects.

Demons’ Score THD is based on EPIC Games’ Unreal Engine 3 to provide outstanding graphics and integrates break-beat action with music. The Tegra 3 version of the game will contain exclusive features like higher resolution texture, advanced bloom effects, rim lighting, dynamic shadows and depth-of-field effects.

Bounty Arms and Heroes Call will also have some Tegra 3 exclusive graphics effects, including co-op play, additional physics interaction and advanced particle effect. The former is a 3D side-scrolling action game, while the latter is an RPG.

Nvidia has not announced a release date for any of these games though, but is providing a hands-on demo of these games at its booth in E3. It is quite surprising to see Nvidia treat its own Tegra 2 SoC as a step-child, with absolutely no mention of the SoC in its blog post or any of the games optimized for it.

Gameloft’s N.O.V.A 3 Now Available For Android; Includes An Inbuilt FPS Benchmarking Tool

Gameloft is one of the biggest publishers of gaming titles on the Google Play market. The company has released some massively popular games for Android including Asphalt series, N.O.V.A, Men In Black, and Modern Combat 2.

Today, the company has released the successor of N.O.V.A 2 for Android – N.O.V.A 3 (duh!). Gameloft is known to make “mobile copies” of some big and popular game, and this sci-fi shooter from the company is no different. The game borrows heavily from Microsoft’s/Bungee’s Halo series.

Four months have passed since Kal ruined the Volterites’ plans by sabotaging their war factories, and stopping the extraction of the Judger Artifacts. However, following the assassination of President Folsom, the government surrendered the colonies to the Volterite Protectorate in order to prevent civil war.
Kal Wardin has been laying low since Folsom’s death, but now he has received a desperate plea from Yelena to come to Earth. Once again, the hero must rise to save mankind!

Even then, the game packs in all of the Gameloft’s signatures including decent graphics, an additional download size of nearly 2GB that makes the 15min refund time on Google Play useless, somewhat complicated control and an okayish price tag of $6.99. The game also packs in 6 different multiplayer modes, and an FPS benchmark for graphics and gameplay, which is a first for any Android game.

Temple Run Finally Available On Android

Android owners, rejoice! One of the most addicting games available for the iOS platform, Temple Run, is now finally available for Android owners to enjoy. Over the last few months, more than a handful of fake Temple Run app had popped up on the Google Play Market.

The best part about the game is that it is available as a free download. There are no ads in the game as well, so users don’t need to worry much about the game draining too much battery on their handset. The game does have in-app purchases though, via which users can buy coins for $0.99 or more.

I gave the game a shot on my Galaxy Nexus, and while the game is insanely addictive, it does have a few issues. The game crashed multiple times for me, and other Nexus S owners running Ice Cream Sandwich on their handset are reporting the same thing. Also, the visuals of the game are not that impressive. I have not seen the iOS version of Temple Run in action, so I cannot say how it looks on an iPhone, but the graphics of the Android version is disappointing for such a popular game.

Interested Android users can download Temple Run from here.

Cut the Rope: Experiments Lands On The Google Play Market

Cut The Rope is one of the most popular games in the Android as well as the Apple’s App Store. ZeptoLab had released a new version of Cut the Rope, Experiments, a few weeks ago for the iOS platform. Today, the Android version of the game has hit the Play Market and it has the same gameplay and the same graphics quality as its iOS counterpart.

The basic gameplay in Cut the Rope Experiments is still the same as the original Cut the Rope i.e. to feed the adorable Om Nom. However, this time Om Nom is discovered by a bad (but not mad) scientist who does some wacky experiment with Om Nom to study his candy loving behavior. The game consists of a whopping 125 new levels across 5 different stages. There are also tons of new gameplay elements, social integration and characters in Cut the Rope: Experiments compared to the original game.

Like the original game, ZeptoLab has priced the game at a mere $0.99, which definitely is light on the wallet. Interested readers can download the game from the Google Play Market.

FIFA 12, NBA Jam and Go Launcher HD Now Available In Play Market!

Over the last few weeks, quite a few popular gaming titles and apps have hit the Google Play Market. Firstly, EA has released two popular gaming titles to the Play Market – FIFA 12 and NBA Jam. FIFA 12 has been available for the Xperia Play owners for a long time now, and is now finally available to the rest of Android handset owners to enjoy.

FIFA 12 contains more than 500 licensed teams, whopping 15,000+ players including Kaka, Rooney, Gerard and more. It also contains all the popular leagues like EPL and La Liga, along with 32 stadiums. The game costs $4.99, and requires a data download of more than 300MB after the initial APK is installed from the Market. Sadly, the game is not available in all regions of the world for some strange reason. Here is the link to the Play Market.

For NBA lovers, the NBA Jam game from EA is a must buy. The game provides users with options to play against a computer opponent, or against your friend via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Like FIFA 12, NBA Jam also costs $4.99, and requires additional data download of more than 300MB.

In other Android gaming related news, Rovio has released an update for Angry Birds Season. The theme of the new update is ‘Year of the Dragon’ and celebrates the spirit of Chinese New Year. The Mighty Eagle has transformed into Mighty Dragon and is available for free to everyone for this particular episode. The Year of the Dragon update for Angry Birds Season can be downloaded from here.

The biggest gaming related news in the Android ecosystem is the release of Resident Evil 4 for the OS. This is the first game of the franchise to be available for Android OS. Sadly, the game is not available for all Android handset owners to download. At the moment, the game is available only for the LG 4G LTE U+ handset owners to download. Hopefully, the exclusivity period of the game will end soon and the developers will release it on the Android Market for all Android owners to enjoy.

5 Best HD Apps For Android

Android phones with HD screens are the latest rage nowadays in the tech world. The recently released Galaxy Nexus, HTC Rezound, and the LG Nitro HD all have screens of varying technology and size, they all have a whopping 720p HD screen resolution. While the Galaxy Nexus comes with a 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED screen, the Rezound comes with a 4.3-inch LCD screen and the Nitro HD comes with a 4.5-inch AH-IPS LCD.

The HD Super AMOLED screen used on the Galaxy Nexus is one of the most popular screen technology in use today. However, the AH-IPS LCD used by LG on their Nitro handset is overall the best screen technology. In fact, it was (the screen) even awarded the best screen technology of 2011 over the various Super-AMOLED variants.

What makes the True HD IPS display on the Nitro so amazing is that unlike the PenTile HD Super AMOLED screen used on the Galaxy Nexus, the Nitro’s screen has an RGB pixel arrangement which provides amazing color accuracy. The Nitro HD also bests the iPhone 4/4S Retina Display in terms of pixel count with a whopping pixel density of 329 pixels per inch. Another advantage of the AH-IPS LCD is that unlike AMOLED screens, it does not consume more power to display white content like websites with white backgrounds e.g. Facebook and Google Plus, which ultimately leads to a better battery life! No wonder that LG quotes that the Nitro has nearly 7 hours of talk time!

So if you own the next generation LG Nitro HD with a True HD IPS display, below are some apps which you must try so as to truly enjoy the beautiful screen on your handset :

5)   Beautiful Widgets Beautiful Widgets is the most popular widget available in the Android Market. As its name suggests, the app contains a set of beautiful widgets for your Android phone’s home screen. The app includes a beautiful set of widgets for clock, weather, and some toggles. The weather widget in particular looks gorgeous particularly on the HD screen of the Android phones. There are also some nice unlock animations which imitate the Sense 3.0 weather animation. In my opinion, Beautiful Widgets is the perfect app to make your iOS friends drool over your Android phone home screen.

Beautiful Widgets is also the first paid app in the Android Market to cross 1 Million+ downloads. Interested readers can purchase Beautiful Widgets from here.

4) Shadowgun Shadowgun is an F.P.S set in the future, where users need to play the role of John Slade, who is an infamous bounty hunter. The game has amazing console quality like graphics and also supports some dedicated USB Gamepads to make gaming easier. If you own an Android phone with a 720p HD screen resolution, Shadowgun will be the best game to make your friends and relatives go wow! over the game as well as the brilliant screen resolution of your phone.

If you are looking for some quality FPS shooting game for your Android handset, you MUST try out Shadowgun. The game is available for $4.99 in the Android Market.

3) Go Launcher Ex The Go developer team is pretty popular in the Android world, and is known for releasing some quality apps for free. Go Launcher Ex is one of them. While there are many other home screen replacement apps in the Android Market, none of them have as many features as Go Launcher, and neither are they updated regularly. Right from some wacky scrolling animations to some quality widgets to themes support, Go Launcher Ex has it all.

Go Launcher Ex is also perfect for all the new generation Android handsets with a 720p HD resolution display. Users can tweak Go Launcher Ex to increase the number of rows and columns on their home screen and take advantage of the extra screen estate offered by the HD screen on their phone. The best part is that Go Launcher Ex is free, which gives it a huge advantage over its paid competitors. Readers can download Go Launcher Ex from here.

2) Shine Runner Shine Runner comes from Vector Unit the developer of another beautiful game Riptide GP. Like Riptide GP, Shine Runner has some amazing water physics, eye popping visuals and much more. All the water effect in Shine Runner look absolutely stunning and real-life on an HD Android phone.

While the game is just a simple fanboat racing game, what makes it so much more fun is the totally destructible environment. Shine Runner can be purchased from the Android Market for $1.99.

1) Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation Modern Combat 3 was released just yesterday from Gameloft on the Android Market, and is one of the best FPS I have ever played on a mobile phone. The game has some stunning graphics and makes full use of the HD screen, the dual-core processor and the oodles of RAM found inside the current gen Android phones. The game has 13 single player campaigns, along with a multiplayer mode.

If you ever wanted to become a war hero, Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation will definitely fulfill that wish of yours! The game can be downloaded from the Android Market for $6.99. Gameloft has released some other popular HD games for Android handsets as well. The LG Nitro HD comes pre-installed with the Gameloft HD store for quick access to these HD games.

Note-:  I was compensated and provided the LG Nitro HD Phone for this article, but all my opinions about the  phone and apps are my own.

What makes LG Nitro’s True HD IPS Display so amazing? 16:9 Aspect ratio for widescreen entertainment, sharper, crisper images, amazingly accurate colors and more. Exclusively available on AT&T’s 4G LTE network. Find out more at
