Samsung announced the LTE version of the Galaxy Note at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2012 in Las Vegas. Within few days of its launch in the US, Samsung announced that the company managed to sell 2 million units of this device globally. This device is selling like hot cakes in its home country as well as in France, Germany, Taiwan and Hong Kong. However, the sales of this device was quite low, compared to the sales of Samsung Galaxy S II.

Today, Samsung has reached another milestone. The company finally managed to ship 5 million units of this device globally. This is not the exact number of devices sold to the customers, but it is the number of devices sold to operators, retailers etc. It took nearly 5 months for the company to reach the 5 million milestone. The sales of Galaxy Note doubled after the device was launched in the United States.

Samsung announced that the company managed to grab about 67 percent of the smartphone market share in Korea. Samsung also holds the number one position in countries like China, France and Spain. The company will launch the LTE variant of the Galaxy Note in Japan next month exclusively for the NTT Docomo customers.

After a lot of leaks and rumors, LG and Verizon have finally unveiled a budget Android handset, the LG Lucid. The handset will cost users $80 on a two-year contract with Verizon. However, the low price of the handset does not mean that LG have skimped on the internal hardware of the handset.

The Lucid packs a 1.2GHz dual-core processor (!), 1GB of RAM, a front-facing camera, and a 4-inch WVGA (480×800) resolution display protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass. The handset also sports all the connectivity features, including support for Verizon’s blazing fast 4G LTE network. Yes, the Lucid costs less than half of the previous generation Android handsets, and sports specs similar to them. On paper, the Lucid is one of the most impressive ‘mid-range’ Android handset announced this year.

The handset runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but LG has assured that they will be updating the handset to Ice Cream Sandwich before the end of this year. The LG Lucid will hit the big red’s network on March 29th, and as stated earlier will cost $80 on a two-year contract, with a $50 mail-in rebate.
