Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sanadwich Market Share Grows To 7.1%

Google has once again updated its Android Platform distribution chart to reflect the fragmentation issue market share of the different Android versions out there for two weeks, with the period ending on June 1.

Like last month, this month also Android 2.3 Gingerbread remains the most popular version of Android out there with nearly 65% market share, with FroYo coming in second with 19.1% market share. The latest and greatest version of Android, announced and released late last year, Ice Cream Sandwich, continues its slow adoption rate with a market share of 7.1%.

However, compared to last months’ market share of nearly 5%, a 2.1% growth in the market share for ICS is definitely not bad. Hopefully, with OEMs rolling out Ice Cream Sandwich update for more devices, and with more and more devices hitting the market with Ice Cream Sandwich, we should see Android 4.0 become the most widely used Android OS by the time Jelly Bean arrives, provided it is not released at Google I/O.

We should keep in mind that since most of the lower-end Android handsets will not be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich, Gingerbread will continue to constitue a fair share of Android’s overall market share for at least the next 12 months.
