Samsung SCH-W999 is a Dual-Screen, Dual-SIM Clamshell Android Phone Heading To China Telecom

Samsung has announced a new wacky Android running handset headed to China, the SCH-W999. This dual-screen, flip phone packs in two 3.5-inch Super-AMOLED displays with WVGA (480×800) resolution. The handset is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor from Qualcomm (S3), and comes with 1GB RAM.

The phone runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Sammy’s own TouchWiz UI jazzing up the stale Gingerbread’s UI a bit. Other usual features like GPS with A-GPS, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, WAPI and a bunch of sensors. At the back of this dual-screen, clamshell phone is a 5MP camera.

Besides being a dual-screen phone, the phone is also a dual-SIM one with GSM and CDMA network support. The SCH-W999 is headed to China Telecom for an unknown price and will be released at an unknown date.

Looking at the way how some dual-screen Android running phones have failed in the past, I doubt Samsung will even think about releasing this handset outside of China.

Verizon’s Samsung Fascinate Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread Update Rolling Out Now!

Fascinate users, Verizon and Samsung have finally deemed your old handset is worthy of some Gingerbread love. The Fascinate is Verizon’s version of the European Galaxy S, and is among the last Galaxy S handsets to get the Gingerbread update. I guess most Fascinate users must have already lost hope that their handset will ever get the Gingerbread update.

According to people who have already got the Gingerbread update, there is a noticeable difference in the performance of the phone. The 3G speeds and the web-browser performance have also improved. The notification toggles at the top of the notification bar have been enhanced a bit, and the Email app now uses a new font and is much more stable and faster. Fascinate owners should also see a noticeable improvement in the battery life of their phone.

The update is being slowly rolled out to all Fascinate handsets out there, and should hit their phone in a few days. Alternatively, users can manually pull the update from Verizon’s update server by going to Settings-> About Phone and then selecting the Software Update’ option.

In all probability, this is the last official software update for the Fascinate from Verizon. The Fascinate won’t be getting the Ice Cream Sandwich update officially. For owners  who  have rooted their Fascinate, they can simply head over to XDA and download and install the beta Ice Cream Sandwich ROM for their handset.

Most importantly, Charge owners will notice an immense improvement in the performance and the stability of the handset.

The full change-log of the update can be found here. The update is a whopping 119MB in size, so make sure you are downloading the update via Wi-Fi and not via that ultra-blazing 4G LTE network of Verizon.

The Droid Charge gets the Gingerbread just after a year Google announced Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Good job Samsung and especially Verizon! Charge owners, don’t expect some Ice Cream Sandwich love for your handset,

Motorola Milestone 2 Finally Gets The Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update

Motorola Milestone 2 owners, here is some good news for you! Motorola Europe has  announced  via their official Facebook page that they will be rolling out the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for your phone beginning from tomorrow.

The Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Milestone 2 will bring a new launcher and app drawer, along with some refreshed colors for the UI. The usual Gingerbread goodies like a Download Manager app, improved copy and paste, a detailed battery usage graph are also on-board. Users should also expect performance and stability improvements.

Motorola Milestone 2 owners in the Europe should consider themselves lucky that they are finally getting some Android 2.3 Gingerbread love from Motorola. The U.S version of the Milestone 2, the Droid 2, already got its Gingerbread update a few months ago. Its shameful to see that it took Motorola nearly a year to update the Milestone 2 to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Most Milestone 2 owners must be thinking whether they will be getting the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update or not? Well, looking at the pace at which Motorola released the Gingerbread update, I am pretty sure they will have brought a new phone if  Motorola decides to update the handset to Ice Cream Sandwich.

Since Motorola will be rolling out the update in stages, users should not expect the update to land on their phone tomorrow itself.
