Motorola Droid X2 Announced; Runs On Android 2.2 Froyo!

After numerous leaks and mysterious appearances, Motorola and Verizon have finally gone ahead and announced the Motorola Droid X2.

The Droid X2 is the successor to the popular Motorola Droid X. Like its predecessor, the X2 will sport a 4.3-inch anti-reflective and scratch resistant screen, with qHD (960×540) resolution.

The handset will be powered by a 1GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset, and pack 512MB of RAM along with 8GB of internal memory. The back of the phone sports an 8MP camera with dual-LED flash, which is capable of recording videos in 1080p HD resolution. Sadly, there is no front-facing camera for video calls.

Other key features of the Droid X2 include mini-HDMI port, GPS with A-GPS, Wi-Fi b/g/n, eCompass and a 3.5mm audio jack. Shockingly, the X2 runs on the now outdated Android 2.2 (Froyo) with MotoBLUR UI on top of it. Motorola states that they will release the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the device soon.

Announcing a high-end device with Froyo right now is simply unacceptable, especially when it has been six months since Gingerbread’s code went public.

The Droid X2 will be available online at VerizonWireless.com beginning from May 19, and will hit the retail stores on May 26. The handset will set users back by $199.9, on a two-year contract.

T-Mobile G2X Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update Leaks!

On the first day of this month, Chris Ziegler over at This Is My Next gave us a small preview of the upcoming Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the T-Mobile G2X. He managed to get the Gingerbread update on his handset, via PaulOBrien.

Sadly, at that time the Gingerbread leak was not made public by Paul or by Chris.

Today, it’s a different story though. Paul has gone ahead and released the Android 2.3 Gingerbread leaked update for the T-Mobile G2X in an update.zip format. The leak has no major bugs and issues, and there is a high possibility of it becoming an official release.

Early reports suggest that the overall phone performance and responsiveness have improved, considerably. The scrolling performance, and touch sensitivity of the screen have been improved as well. The custom Camera interface by LG as seen in Android 2.2 FroYo, has been replaced with stock Gingerbread camera UI.

Sadly, the Gingerbread version is 2.3.3, which means video call via Google talk is a no go!

Interested G2X owners can head over to this thread over at MoDaCo forums to download the Gingerbread leak for their handset. The update.zip is pre-rooted as well!

Samsung And AT&T Announce The Infuse 4G

Samsung and AT&T have gone ahead and finally announced the Samsung Infuse 4G.

The Samsung Infuse 4G was first shown at CES, and since then both the companies have been mum about it. The Infuse 4G sports a mammoth 4.5-inch Super-AMOLED+ screen, with WVGA (800×480) resolution.

The handset will also be the thinnest ‘4G’ branded handset available on the AT&T network, measuring only 8.99mm thick. The Infuse 4G sports a 1.2GHz Hummingbird processor, along with 512MB of RAM and a microSD card slot (2GB card pre-installed).

The back of the handset sports an 8MP camera with an LED flash, which is capable of recording videos in 720p HD resolution. There is also a 1.3MP camera in the front.   The usual Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS with A-GPS, Proximity Sensor, and a 3.5mm audio jack are also present.

Sadly, the Infuse 4G runs on Android 2.2 FroYo, with Samsung’s TouchWIZ UI on top of it.   The handset will also come with a special version of Angry Birds pre-installed with some hidden levels.

The Samsung Infuse 4G will be available at all AT&T stores from May 15, for $199.99 on a two-year contract.

Motorola Atrix 4G And HTC Inspire 4G Software Updates To Enable HSUPA Rolling Out Now!

AT&T has started rolling out two new software updates for the HTC Inspire 4G and the Motorola Atrix 4G. The software updates for both the handsets mainly aim at removing the cap from the upload speeds.

The Inspire 4G software update brings with some bug fixes, and some email enhancements including automatic configuration for Hotmail, Live and MSN email accounts. The software updates also enables higher upload speeds on the Inspire 4G, for which AT&T has been criticized.

The software update for the Atrix 4G enables higher upload speeds for the handset, and also bumps up the Android version to 2.2.2. Apparently, Motorola is also rolling out another software update for the Atrix 4G. The update in question is this one, which Motorola did not release to the consumers for some reason.

The updates for both the handsets are OTA one, and will be automatically pushed to all Atrix 4G and Inspire 4G handsets. Users can manually check for the update as well, by going to the Settings-> About Phone menu and selecting the Check for update option.
