Adobe Enters 3D gaming with Flash Player 11 and AIR 3

Adobe Systems has announced Flash Player 11 and Adobe AIR 3 software to enable the next generation of immersive application experiences across devices and platforms. Flash Player 11 and AIR 3 will allow game publishers to instantly deliver console-quality 2D and 3D games over the Internet to anyone with a PC, tablet, smartphone or connected TV.

By the end of 2011, Adobe expects more than 200 million smartphones and tablets including Apple iOS devices to support Flash based applications via Adobe AIR. Adobe AIR, a superset of Flash Player, enables developers to leverage existing code to create and deliver standalone applications across devices and platforms.

Flash offers the best way for content owners to deliver their most demanding experiences, including games, premium video and sophisticated data- driven apps, to all of their users, while HTML 5 tools such as Adobe Edge and Dreamweaver are ideal to build interactive web pages, rich ads, branded microsites and general-purpose mobile applications.

– Danny Winokur, Vice President and General manager, Platform at Adobe.

Flash Player 11 and AIR 3 offer full hardware-accelerated rendering for 2D and 3D graphics that enables 1000x faster rendering performance over Flash Player 10 and AIR 2. Also, Flash-based applications on Apple iOS devices can now display full frame rate videos using H.264 hardware decoding. Rich applications on televisions will also be  able to deliver HD video with 7.1 channel surround sound.

Adobe Flash Player 11 + Adobe AIR 3

Although facing tough competition from HTML5 capabilities and the non-availability of Flash in browsers on most smartphone platforms, Flash Player is supported on more than 98 percent of Internet connected PCs today. More than 70 percent of casual games on the Web are based on Flash, although mobile-gaming has seen exponential rise in last few years. According to an IDC report from May 2011, total market revenue of casual gaming should rise to $3.5 billion  by 2015 and the number of gamers should rise to 138.2 million.

GeeMail v1.0: An Adobe AIR Desktop Alternative for GMail

geemasil-logoMany a time just opening a browser for the sake of checking your emails isn’t a great option. Specially if you have a browser starting which means losing out on your memory resource. GeeMail is a desktop client for GMail distributed by Sourcebits. This small application helps you to check your email right from the desktop. It allows you to perform elementary email tasks too.

Some of the best features of GeeMail are as follows :

1. No configuration is required to allow communication with your GMail. When you are online just run the application and login as you will from a browser. It will automatically fetch your mails from Google.

2. You compose your mails offline and click send. When GeeMail detects an internet connection it will send your mails automatically.

3. The user interface looks exactly like GMail . So you don’t have to spend time getting used to it.

Installation:

1. Download GeeMail. The tiny app runs on Adobe AIR platform. Hence you need to have it (Adobe AIR) installed on your PC before you could try GeeMail. In case you don’t have Adobe AIR already, download it here.

2. Run the geemail.air file to install GeeMail in your computer.

3. You need to confirm the installation to start it. Click Install.

4. Installation preferences are already checked for you. Change them if you need to and click Continue.

5. Once the installation is complete, the GeeMail window will open up asking for your username and password. You will to need provide that in order to log in to Gmail just as you do while using a browser. Following is a look at your Gmail account using Geemail.

7. Click Sign outwhen you are done and it will sign you out of your Gmail Account.

During my brief experience with it, it performed a bit slower than the regular Gmail web interface. However, the interface is brilliant and put together in a clean manner unlike other heavy-duty Gmail desktop clients. GeeMail is compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac.

Nice, isn’t it? Though it is not offering the extra edge as of now, don’t be surprised if it does so in future. So from this point on, you need Gmail, u won’t need a browser.

Flip Toast Is An Awesome Desktop App for Facebook

There are several apps available to access on the desktop, however, sadly I haven’t found anything worthwhile. That is until today when I came across an App recommended by Manan called Flip Toast.

Facebook Notification Flip Toast

Flip Toast is an app based on and is by far one of the best Facebook Desktop apps I have ever come across. The app has a neat interface and provides users with an option to drag and drop images to upload them to Facebook along with giving you an option to catch up with your Facebook feed and also Facebook notifications.

Facebook Upload Photos, Update Status from Desktop

Flip Toast provides and intuitive interface which looks great and does the job pretty well. For example, you can click on the update icon and update your status or click on the photos icon to drag and drop photos and upload them to your Facebook profile.

Flip Toast also display your feed updates through small notification blurbs which disappear after a few seconds. However, you can also like or comment on posts from your desktop itself.

Overall this is one of the best desktop apps I have ever seen, however, make sure to install the app from their Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=166111553400149 as the app installer on their website comes with several unwanted things.

Go ahead and use this app, I am very sure that you won’t be disappointed with it.

Adobe AIR For Android Released

Adobe has released the Adobe AIR application on the Android market. Adobe AIR allows developers to create applications that can be easily ran on various platforms with minimal changes in their code. AIR will allow Android users to enjoy web applications right on their handsets without opening their Internet browser. Adobe AIR

However, at the moment there is not even a single quality AIR based application available for Android that I know of. To use some Adobe AIR based applications, search for Adobe AIR and all the apps listed will be based on it. Hopefully, developers will soon start creating applications using AIR and thus take full advantage of its multi-platform feature’.

The Adobe AIR application, like Adobe Flash 10.1, is only for phones running on Android 2.2.

Adobe Brings Video Calling to Android, Calls it FlashTime

Adobe has released a demo application called FlashTime which enables video chat on Android devices. The app was built using Adobe Air 2.5 for the Android platform and uses your smartphone’s camera to enable video chat with other users.

They seem to be making a point to iPhone developers (Apple doesn’t allow Flash on the iOS platform) that it’s very easy to build powerful applications using Flash and then port them over to any supported platform (like Android) using Adobe AIR. This particular FlashTime demo app took just 3 days to build.

Mark Doherty, Flash Platform Evangelist, Mobile and Devices, Adobe, said on his blog, “This is not an Adobe product, but simply a feature demo that took 3 days. Any one can build P2P applications with Flash and AIR.”

Adobe had unveiled Flash and AIR support for Android, back at MWC, Barcelona in February.

Adobe Prereleases Adobe Air For Android

is probably one of the best inventions by Adobe in my opinion and there are several apps which have made good use of it, take for example . The best part about Adobe Air is that the applications are platform independent just like Java apps, and only require a runtime to run the app.

Adobe Air Android

Now, Adobe is taking the same platform independent flexibility to mobile devices with the prerelease of the Adobe Air for platform, which will allow developers to create applications using the platform and run in natively on the Android OS.

If you are a developer who uses Adobe tools and are excited about this news, you can visit http://www.adobe.com/go/airbetasignup to get a prerelease of the development tools required to build an app for Android.

Though Flex 4 is not fully supported, developers can build Android apps using the Adobe Air platform with Flash Professional CS5 and Flash Builder 4 for pure Actionscript projects.

Adobe Demoes Prototype Android Tablet Running Flash and AIR

Apple has made it amply clear that they aren’t interested in letting Flash anywhere near its mobile devices. However, that doesn’t mean that Adobe is going to up on its plans for Mobile devices. At the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco, Adobe demoed a prototype Android tablet running not only Flash, but also Adobe AIR.

The demoed device is a prototype in its truest sense. It was devoid of any branding and had an acrylic case as its enclosure. As you may expect, very little is known about this multi-touch tablet.

According to Zedomax, the mystery tablet device may shape up to be a decent offering. Even in its prototype form, it ran Adobe AIR and Flash “flawlessly”. Check out the videos below for more.

Adobe AIR may turn out to be a killer feature for tablet devices. There are already hundreds of Adobe AIR powered apps, including numerous popular Twitter, Facebook and YouTube clients. AIR will provide new entrants into the tablet segment a head start and offer them at least a fighting chance against Apple.

If you are not among the millions who have already purchased an iPad, you may want to hold out a bit longer. Adobe has revealed that there’s a slew of Android powered tablets in the pipeline. Although, Adobe refused to provide any specifics, by the end of the year, there should be plenty of choices in the tablet segment.

Twitter and Facebook on Your Desktop Using Mixero

mixero-screenI am not a big fan of Adobe Air apps, Mozilla Prism or Google Chrome app shortcuts. These frameworks allow you to run web applications on your PC’s desktop like other applications. I like web applications to stay in the browser. However, I can be tempted away from the browser occasionally.

Mixero is an Adobe Air application that brings Twitter and Facebook to your PC, Mac or iPhone desktop. It offers speed, plenty of functions and lots of ways to filter the content. It really is pretty amazing. Take a look at this video showing off the features of Mixero.

If you can’t see this video click here.

As I said earlier, I don’t normally like web apps running on my desktop, but Mixero is very tempting. So far, the only way I’ve been able to mix up Twitter and Facebook is by using Brizzly.com. It’s a good alternative if you decide you definitely want to stay inside your web browser. In the mean time, I’ll keep Mixero awhile to see how much use I get from it.

Download Mixero (available for PC, Mac and iPhone, requires Adobe Air)

Techie Buzz Verdict:

Mixero’s speed and features are sure to make plenty of Social Web addicts very happy. If it wasn’t dependent on Adobe Air, I’d like it much better. I’d also like to see them add more services, such as MySpace or Google Buzz.

Oh am I running out of cash? How did that happen? These are few questions we tend to ask ourselves whenever we are reaching the end of the month, since many times we do not keep track of income and expenditures and don’t realize when we cross our budgets.

Budget Tracker is a simple tool created in which will allow you to track you income and expenses and create a proper budget without breaking your head. It allows you add different types of accounts such as Income account, Utility accounts, Loan Accounts, Credit Card accounts and Misc Expenses Account.

Techie Buzz Verdict

Budget Tracker is a very basic budget tracking program and does not feature things such as an option to add day to day expenses. In addition to that, it also lacks the ability to create budget accounts for different months, so you are need to edit the same account over and over again.

Budget Tracker is good for very basic use.
