JW Desktop Player Review
By on December 5th, 2009

If you are looking for a sleek and simple YouTube video player sitting right on your desktop, look no further than JW Desktop Player. It boasts no features other than the ability to search for and play videos from YouTube, and also the ability to play MP3, MP4, FLV and F4V files from your hard drive. For my needs, this player delivers fast and easy.

Windows

When you start up the Desktop Player, you are greeted with a video pulled from YouTube (assuming you are connected to the internet) and many more in the playlist sidebar. The search bar automatically opens up while the controls are easy to get used to.

Control Bar

The minimalist interface was a clear winner for me!

Spam

Searching for Monty Pythonyielded the famous Spam sketch as the first video while other classics loaded in the sidebar. Playing it, I found that the Speedbit Video Acceleration is supported! Another plus! However, I did not see any results from other websites such as Vimeo or DailyMotion, which would have been a clincher.

Video Acceleration

Clicking the magnifying glass turned off the sidebar, while clicking the button to the right opened the web page of the sketch:-

Nifty, if you ask me.

The open button allows you to search for videos in your hard drive. Pasting the URL of site with flash video automatically opens up that video on Desktop Player. Thus, it stays true to its name.

A worthy and efficient player give it a go if you do not want your browser cluttered with videos!

Techie Buzz Verdict

4.5/5 An efficient and easy to use video player that sticks to what it talks about.
