I'm Feeling Lucky

Orkut one of the most popular social networking sites in India and Brazil has added a new feature where users can send scraps (friend messages) by sending SMS (text messages) from their cell phones.

To start using this feature you will need to register your mobile number with Orkut before you can start using this service. The feature is not completely free and you will be charged by your service provider to send and receive SMS messages. To top it only few providers are supported at this stage. This is quite opposite of the free SMS provided by AOL Mail back in May.

To send a scrap to a friend you will need to type in “scrap friendname your message” and send it to Orkut.  There are a few other commands like reset and unregister, you can learn about those commands by visiting Orkut Help.

This feature has not completely rolled out yet and many users may not be able to see it in the settings page.
