Say Hello to “Get Costco Gift Card for FREE! (limited time only)” Facebook Scam

A new message spreading on Facebook claims to giveaway $1000 Costco gift cards just for sharingthe message with your friends on the social networking giant. Well, don’t get too excited about this because it is a scam. The scam has the title Get Costco Gift Card for FREE! (limited time only)and has a description that reads Costco is currently giving away $1000.00 gift cards to all Facebook users!!

This is a spam message that is spreading on Facebook, and do not share this with your friends. Clicking the scam will take you to a bogus page where you will have to follow a few steps in order to “claim” the reward.

In the first step, you are asked to post the message on your Facebook timeline, and then “like” the page. You will then be redirected to another page where you are asked to enter your email address, and click the continue button. You will then be presented with a set of online surveys, which you are asked to complete.

Please note that there is no use in completing surveys like this. Scammers create such message in order to trick users and get them to complete online surveys. Sometimes, they try to extract your personal information as well as financial details, like credit card number or bank account number. Entering these details will pose serious threats to your accounts, so please avoid entering your credentials.

I suggest you to remove the scam from your news feed by clicking on the Xmark on the top-right corner of the post. Alternatively you can report the scam to the Facebook Security team.

Please note that scams like this use multiple domain and different web pages. You may see variations in the landing pages, but they are all the same.

As a precautionary measure, always check which applications you use and remove unwanted or suspicious ones.
