By on May 3rd, 2012

A new scam message has been circulating around the social networking site Facebook calming to giveaway a pair of Oakley’s sunglasses for free to users who “like” and share the message post with their friends. There is no such offer giveaway by Oakley’s and the message spreading is simply a fake that scammers have created in order to obtain user information.

The message spreading is as follows -

Get a Free Pair of Oakleys! (limited time only)!

Current Limited Offer – To Celebrate the Summer, We are Giving Away Free Oakleys To All Facebook Users!

Get a Free Pair of Oakley's

This is bogus offer that scammers have created. Clicking on the scam link will take you a page where you will notice a countdown indicating the number of gifts remaining. However, this is simply a fake counter. You are asked to share and “like” the message on Facebook. Once done, you are redirected to another bogus page where you are asked to fill out a form with your gender, stye and email address.

Free Oakley's

Providing your email address on such sites is not a good idea, since the scammers may send you spam messages, or even sell it to third-party organizations, who in turn will spam you no matter what.

It is recommended that you DO NOT click on such links or scam messages on Facebook. If you come across this scam message, please delete/remove the scam from your Facebook news feed immediately. Alternately, you can report the scam to Facebook Security.

With over 800 million users on Facebook, the social networking giant has always been a main target for spreading scams. It is quite difficult to identify scams on Facebook. They’re spamming the living hell out of my phone now. No matter how many times you reply with ‘STOP’ to their messages, they keep-a-commin’, and from different #’s. Now what? I’m on T-Mobile and the only thing they tell us to do is to fwd everything to 7726…. This is costing me $, and I’m not too stoked about it, as there is (no disclosure) as to what they were going to do (with) said number when entered. This is obviously against the law, and the numbers should be traced and people involved prosecuted.
