Monitor Bandwidth Usage for Your Network [Free Application]

The last few days have been terrible with regards to access to Internet connections for me and I have been bombarded with dropped connections both at office which uses Road Runner [Time Warner] and at home where I have a wireless setup on a Comcast modem.

I tried Googling to find a proper bandwidth manager but always hit a dead end as the softwares I found were either paid or too crappy to use.

Nevertheless that search ended today when I found a worthwhile software to monitor the bandwidth usage for my computer in a app called Cyber Bandwidth Monitor.

Send Emails With large attachments up to 2 GB

Though email storage has evolved over time from the meager 2MB Yahoo provided once upon a time to the enormous amounts you have now. Though the storage space has gone over the roof the size of the attachment you can send with a mail has not seen the same changes.

The maximum attachment sites for most email providers is about 20MB which will very well allow you to send up to 5 MP3 files but not a huge video you shot with your camera.

Send files up to 2 GB

filemail-logoIn comes filemail a service which allows you to send attachments of up to 2 GB without even registering on the site, to top it you can even use your existing email account to send the emails. The service also allows you to choose and select multiple files for uploading.

filemail-catchline

The thing to note is that the target email account you will be sending the files to will not receive the actual files but instead receive a link to a secure download page from where they can download the files.

Summarizing

Though the service has not achieved something by rocket science there are various other services like this which allow users to share huge files with others, many of which we have already covered here, here, here and here.

I wonder in coming days we would see sites which come up with a 5GB alternative ;).

The add-in was created through an open source project with Microsoft, Sonata Software Ltd. and the Digital Accessible Information System (DAISY) Consortium and can be downloaded on SourceForge.

Top 35 Text Editors Which Rock

Smashing Magazine has put up a review of 35 useful source code Editors. Those editors can be quite useful for editing HTML, CSS or programming code or just as a notepad replacement.

Here are some of my favorite picks from the list most of which I currently use too.

The one editor that finds a worthwhile mention from my end if Eclipse which I use to create java and PHP projects. I use eclipse for creating WordPress plugins and client projects because of the better management features it provides me with.

Would love to know which is your favorite editor.
