Ray M45 – Dual Sim Support and Much More for 3500 Rs

Ray has launched it’s new phone – M45 in India and it’s really cheap – Rs. 3500. For those of you who don’t know, Ray is a Chinese brand which started its distribution in India some time back.

The key feature of M45 is that it has slots for two SIM card. Of course, you cannot simultaneously operate on both. However, since they are both active, you will not have to keep switching between them. It has dedicated call buttons for both the SIM cards which helps you to just dial a number and press either of the buttons to make a call from the respective SIM card.

Ray M45 is not at all eye-catching by its looks. It has a very minimalistic and simple design.

Specifications :

  • 176 x 220 pixel display (262K)
  • 2 MP Camera
  • Expandable Memory – upto 4 GB
  • FM Radio
  • Bluetooth
  • Music Player
  • Large capacity Lithium – Ion battery (1800 mAh). 10 Hrs Talktime and 500 Hrs Standby
  • Dimension – 110 X 58 X 12.2 mm

There are hardly any devices in the market which offer a dual SIM phone at a price around Rs. 3,500. Ray M45 on the other hand, gives you many extra features to go with it. Though the handset lacks style, the phone is definitely ideal for you if you have a  low-budget.

Techie-Buzz Verdict

Not everything of this phone is a show-stopper. If you compare it to Nokia’s high-end smartphones or SE’s superb camera phones then you’re sure to be disappointed. But, if you want to have nearly all the amenities of a smart phone at a low budget price, try Ray M45. It will not disappoint you.

Sweden Ranks as The World’s Most Networked Country Leaving Behind US, Singapore

Sweden has just bagged the position of the world’s most networked country leaving behind the likes of US, Canada and Norway far behind in the competition. The report, which ranked US at #1 in 2005, has shown US to be at #5 this time in 2010.
internet-rank
The results and findings are interesting as the rankings stand as Sweden followed by Singapore, Denmark, Switzerland, US, Finland and others. The study has been conducted by the World Economy Forum’s Global IT Report.

With an extensive coverage of 133 economies worldwide, the report remains the world’s most comprehensive and authoritative international assessment of the impact of ICT on the development process and the competitiveness of nations.

Although the US ranks first in IT usage in business and fourth in IT usage in business, it needs to gear up to get to #1. The significant areas where the US lost are mobile penetration in which it ranked 72nd and broadband penetration where it ranked 22nd.

Other countries of interest in this report include India and China, the two most populated countries in the world. The growth in both of these countries has been huge and China boasts the 37th place while India is following closely at 43rd place. Out of all the things that such a huge population can do, increasing randomness is one of them. This keeps us pretty much around average in most of the polls and surveys conducted worldwide.

Create Photo Mosaics from Profile Images of Your Twitter Friends

We have seen some really cool ways to create background images for your Twitter profile. There is Twitlay, which lets you create Twitter backgrounds from an image stored in your computer. There is also Twitbacks, which makes it easy to show all your social networking accounts as your Twitter profile background.

But wouldn’t it be a great idea to use a photo mosaic as a Twitter background? The idea here is to create a photo mosaic from profile thumbnails of your Twitter followers or friends. Here is an example:

twitter-friends-photo-mosaic

MyFriendsMosaic let’s you quickly create photo mosaics from profile images of your Twitter friends and followers. Just visit the site and enter your Twitter username and choose followers or friends from the dropdown menu.

create-photo-mosaics-twitter-friends

Once the mosaic is done, you can download the image in your computer. The site works with Twitter and Livejournal. The premier option let’s you buy custom templates such as: an image for the mouse pad, a coffee mug, a T-shirt or may be a handbag.

Techie Buzz Verdict

The site looks cool but the downside is that there aren’t any templates. All you get is a rectangular image which can be set as a desktop background or the background image of your Twitter profile. I would love to see different shapes being introduced, so that each mosaic looks different from others.

Techie Buzz rating: 3/5 (Good).

Pwn2Own Hackfest: Day One Déjà vu

The day one of Pwn2Own just got over and the results gave me a Déjà vu. Browsers started falling starting with Safari on Snow Leopard followed by Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox 3. The Safari hack was once again claimed by Charlie Miller, this time third year in a row. Peter Vreugdenhil broke into Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7 and both the Safari and Internet Explorer attack were carried out through remote malicious codes.

Firefox 3 was hacked on a 64 bit Windows 7 by Nils, who happens to be a German CS student. He is also a familiar face who had successfully hacked Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer at last year’s Pwn2Own.

In the midst of all this hacking and remote code execution, one browser which was left untouched was Google Chrome. Google Chrome was not even attempted to be hacked because of its sandboxed environment. Charlie Miller from last year’s Pwn2Own explains Google Chrome’s behavior saying,

There are bugs in Chrome but they’re very hard to exploit. I have a Chrome vulnerability right now but I don’t know how to exploit it. It’s really hard. They’ve got that sandbox model thats hard to get out of. With Chrome, it’s a combination of things — you can’t execute on the heap, the OS protections in Windows and the Sandbox.

The winners, that is, the successful hackers won a sum of $10,000 and the hacked system as prize. Even though Firefox and Internet Explorer applied security patches just before the starting of the hackfest, they did not get spared.

BSNL Plans to Take Over The Broadband Market

BSNL has recently laid out a new and exciting offer to its Broadband Customers. The Telecom giant and broadband provider has offered a 15 days test period for its 2 Mbps connection and has allowed free unlimited downloads within this period of time.
Dataone-Connection-Unlimited-Internet
The official note at the BSNL website says,

All the customers registering their new Broadband connection till 31st March 2010 under any BSNL Broadband Plan of up to 2Mbps speed (limited/unlimited) shall be provided unlimited free download at 2Mbps for first fifteen (15) days, irrespective of the speed of the plan applied for.

This comes as a promotional offer from BSNL in times when all Indian broadband giants like Airtel, Reliance and MTNL are planning for expansion.

Those customers applying for an unlimited connection will get a 2 Mbps connection for the first 15 days. After the first 15 days, they will be reverted back to the previous plan. Those opting for a any other new connection will be given a grace period of 15 days to try this service free of charge.

BSNL is the broadband provider with the largest penetration in India and this test of a new speed is indicative of some progress in the field of broadband, where India keeps failing badly. This promotional offer by BSNL will let it penetrate better with the punch being the free trial. BSNL is also expecting a good conversion to the higher speed from current plan users.
