Apple iPad May Run Android OS In Next Version

If you thought that the meeting between Steve Jobs and Eric Schmidt from Google was a joke, this could be a big breakthrough. According to few sources we have heard, Apple is planning to run the OS on the .

According to some real close sources the discussion was about having the Android OS on the iPad and future versions of iPhone, precisely iPad 0.00001 will see Android 0.000002 being implemented on it.

Steve Jobs and Eric Schmidt

The marathon meet which was spotted by Gizmodo was an actual hands up submission about Android (as you can see in the screenshot above) by Steve Jobs to Eric Google and their superior Android OS.

This will definitely give Android (and Eric and Google) a big boost on the sales of the and give them a kick ahead with Android, which will be shortly seen in the next generation of . Thank you Steve Jobs for doing the right thing, the iPhone OS was really good, but it had no future, this decision was really mature and had all the Steve Jobs mantra behind it.

Ouch, don’t take this serious will you? This is an early April Fools Joke from our side, have fun.

How to Find Out Who Is Spying On You

spying-on-you[Windows Only] Today, I found out that my computer at work had a trojan infection. Most of my co-workers would never have noticed the bug, but a little luck and the right tools made my discovery possible. Since I discovered the infection early, I was able to quickly  remove the malware. Do you know if evil computers are connecting to your PC? If you really want to find out, I recommend that you try two utilities from NirSoft.

Download and Install:
CurrPorts and IPNetInfo are both portable applications that are offered as ZIP files. You can unpack these ZIP files anywhere on your hard drive or even onto a flash drive to use them. CurrPorts and IPNetInfo work best if you put the files from both programs into the same folder. After I downloaded and unpacked them,   I ended up with the following files in my CPorts folder.

currports-file-list

Run CurrPorts:
You can run CurrPorts by launching the cports.exe file. It will scan your computer and display a list of processes on your PC that are using the network and internet connections. The list contains the following columns of information on each connection.

Process Name *
Process ID
Protocol
Local Port
Local Port Name
Local Address
Remote Port
Remote Port Name
Remote Address *
Remote Host Name
State
Process Path *
Product Name
File Description
File Version
Company
Process Created On
User Name
Process Services
Process Attributes
Added On
Module Filename
Remote IP Country
Window Title

Search the information:
The most important columns to pay attention to are the columns described below.

Process Name is the name of the program or service on your PC that is making the connection.

Process Path tells you where the program or service is located on your hard drive. It’s important to know this location if you suspect that you have a spyware, virus or trojan infection.

Remote Address is a set of numbers that is often called the “IP Address”. This address is needed to identify the computers connected to you by the internet.

Many of the connections you’ll see won’t even have a remote address and you don’t have to pay as much attention to them. In order to unclutter the list and concentrate on the remote IP addresses, you can use the Options menu and uncheck the item labeled “Display Items without Remote Address“.

Identify WHO IS connecting:
Now that you have some IP addresses displayed, you can find out more about them by using NifSoft’s IPNetInfo utility. When you right click on any remote address shown in CurrPorts, you can find out more about it by choosing the IPNetInfo option. IPNetInfo will pop up and give you the WHOIS information if it’s able to.

currports-with-ipnetinfo

Here’s an example of the WHOIS info for a Google page in Internet Explorer.

ipnetinfo-report

IPNetInfo.exe can be run all by itself by launching the ipnetinfo.exe file. When it’s running this way, you will have to paste in the IP Addresses manually to initiate WHOIS searches.

Stop the Spies:
Once you’ve identified all the owners of those remote IP addresses, you should have a better idea about who they are. You can usually find out more about them by using the company name in an internet search. If you are still suspicious that the IP addresses you are seeing are from the bad guys, you can check in several places to find out if they are on a watch list. I recommend that you search for malicious addresses at hpHosts. Just paste the remote IP address into the search box.

If you’ve identified a connection you don’t want, you can right click on entries in CurrPorts and either “Close” the connection or “Kill” the process on your PC. If you have a process running on your machine that continues to connect to IPs that are suspect, you should probably save an HTML report as shown below, then run an Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware scan. I recommend using MalwareBytes or one of the other good free spyware removers. If that doesn’t do the trick, get some help from one of the Anti-Spyware forums. I always visit Temerc.com‘s forums when I need help.

If you wish to ask me about some of your remote connections, you can select one or more items in CurrPorts, click on “View” > “HTML Report – Selected Items”. When the report pops into your web browser, you can copy and paste the information into the comments below this article. You can also save the report from your browser using the File > Save menu.

Google India Launches Shopping Tool

Good news, shopaholics. Google has added a shopping tool to the Indian edition of its search engine. Now, you can compare product prices and hunt down the best bargain without having to navigate away from Google Search. The new shopping options can be accessed from the left sidebar, which appears when you click on the “Show Options” button.

The shopping tool aggregates data from more than 30 thousand Indian websites and automatically serves relevant product information and prices. It also provides you the flexibility of restricting your search to a certain price range. Take a look at the screenshot below to get an idea about the tool:

Google-India-Shopping-Tool

“Google’s shopping tool is another step toward our goal of making the web search results page more relevant for the specific type of information you are looking for”, said Rahul Roy-Chowdhury, Product Manager at Google India.

The Shopping Tool works quite well and offers relevant results for a wide range of products. Unfortunately, it is tucked away in an obscure location and chances are that most users won’t even notice it. In my opinion, something as handy as this definitely deserves its special one box (at least during the initial launch period).

Airtel HTC Smart: A Smart 3G Touchscreen Phone for Budget Conscious Buyers

Following closely on the heels of iPhone 3GS launch in India, Bharti Airtel has announced that it will be launching the HTC Smart in India.

Unlike most of its more feature packed siblings, the HTC Smart is not powered by Android or Windows Mobile. HTC has instead opted to go with Qualcomm Brew. Smart is a pleasant looking device featuring a 2.8-inch resistive display and a three mega-pixel fixed-focus camera.

HTC-Smart-Smartphone-3G-India-Airtel

One of the main attractions of this pretty little handset is Scenes, which are essentially different phone configurations that reflect different moods in your daily self. The user interface (UI) bears all the hallmarks of a HTC phone. It is charming and simply to use. The panel based UI does a good job at providing quick access to stuff that you require, while the contact manager neatly clubs together SMS, e-mail and Facebook communications.

Airtel will be selling the HTC Smart for Rs. 9,900, which is reasonable for a capable budget smartphone with 3G support.

While designing Smart, HTC obviously paid a lot of attention affordability. However, don’t let that fool you into thinking that Smart is an inferior device. If you are looking for a 3G enabled budget smart phone, then this may be just be it.

Tech Giants Want There to be a “Digital Due Process” to Access Personal Data

A board of companies including non-profit companies, private companies and others have joined hands to protect the privacy of people over the Internet. The board has tech giants like Google, Microsoft and others as its members. Their presence adds weight to the efforts and plans of the board.

The group has recently announced a reformed Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) which ensures privacy of individual over the Internet. The act was formulated way back in 1986 and much has changed since. This bill also aims at protecting people from unauthorized law enforcement access to their personal data over the Internet.

The principles of the new plan as laid out by the board stands as,

  1. A governmental entity may require an entity covered by ECPA (a provider of wire or electronic communication service or a provider of remote computing service) to disclose communications that are not readily accessible to the public only with a search warrant issued based on a showing of probable cause, regardless of the age of the communications, the means or status of their storage or the provider’s access to or use of the communications in its normal business operations.
  2. A governmental entity may access, or may require a covered entity to provide, prospectively or retrospectively, location information regarding a mobile communications device only with a warrant issued based on a showing of probable cause.
  3. A governmental entity may access, or may require a covered entity to provide, prospectively or in real time, dialed number information, email to and from information or other data currently covered by the authority for pen registers and trap and trace devices only after judicial review and a court finding that the governmental entity has made a showing at least as strong as the showing under 2703(d).
  4. Where the Stored Communications Act authorizes a subpoena to acquire information, a governmental entity may use such subpoenas only for information related to a specified account(s) or individual(s). All non-particularized requests must be subject to judicial approval.

This will protect all user data until it is publicly accessible. The Congresss approval will implement them through the ECPA for a better web.

Adobe Flash Player and Google Chrome; Just Married

Adobe Flash and Google Chrome got close when Adobe announced the availability of Flash support on Google Chrome. Adobe Flash player will be available on future versions of Google Chrome by default and they will no longer require to download am extra third-party plugin for this.

Further, any update to the Flash player will be delivered as Chrome’s browser update eliminating all security issues.

This adds more security to the already secure Chrome browser. The latest update keeps out any hack attempts and does not annoy users for updates. The flash player can also be disabled easily.

In addition to this, Adobe is also working on a new browser API, which is built on top of the NPAPI of Firefox. The now API will help plugins to integrate more tightly with the host browser. This will also improve sandboxing and provide added security.

The Chromium blog has said,

Improving the traditional browser plug-in model will make it possible for plug-ins to be just as fast, stable, and secure as the browser’s HTML and JavaScript engines.

It is good to see Internet movers and shakers like Google, Adobe and Firefox work together towards a better web.

iPhone Can Turn the Tables; Verizon Market Share Skyrockets After Rumors of iPhone Arriving on Verizon

Verizon Communications is the largest CDMA wireless carrier in the US. A recent rumor of Apple iPhone arriving on Verizon’s CDMA network has sent the sales of Verizon to an all-time high in the last four months.

The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday on this matter saying that CDMA iPhones are already being developed. Now, there is only one possible CDMA network the iPhone can be preparing for and it is Verizon. Both Apple and Verizon have refused to comment on this though.

Analysts have predicted a 3.5 million growth in subscribers if the launch is successful. Craig Moffett, an analyst from New York has said,

There is undoubtedly enormous pent-up demand for the iPhone on Verizon’s superior network. iPhone availability will therefore mean an immediate acceleration for Verizon’s subscriber growth and, conversely, immediate share losses for AT&T.

Last year, AT&T made itself 3.1 million customers with its iPhone deal. AT&T is a GSM based network and is the only competition Verizon and Sprint CDMA networks face. iPhone availability on these networks will weaken AT&Ts position. AT&T already suffers from network congestion. The rumor has given people better hopes of using their iPhones on a better network.
