Ever heard about a URL masking service? No, I am not talking about URL shorteners which can be used to shorten a long URL. A URL masking service forwards the visitor using a “Frame source” of the destination URL so that the original URL is kept hidden from the user (and from the bots as well).
URL masking is not required with regular links and in most of the cases, you can simply use rel=”nofollow” to instruct the bots from not crawling it. But if you are linking to a download page which you want to hide from the crawlers, URL masking services like Hides.at might help.
To use the site, simply paste the destination URL in the input field and click “Hide”.
You will be shown a masked or coded URL like http://hides.at/3bffcb3bf9ba5f1ed115b2904b6b2b05. Putting this address in the browser address bar will not redirect you to the original page. Instead, you will see the destination URL in text as shown below:
Since the masked URL does not redirects to any page, the search bots or web crawlers won’t be able to crawl that link. This is useful, when you want to hide suspicious links to download pages, torrent sites etc. Some forum bots crawl web links and automatically delete them at regular intervals, so you can use this service and stop worrying about broken links.
Techie Buzz Verdict
The service looks good but should have more options to choose from. I hate filling in the captcha to see the unmasked URL’s. I would love to see a bookmarklet or a browser extension being included so that I can mask and unmask URL’s on the fly.
Samsung has launched the S5620 handset aka Samsung Monte in India for an affordable price of Rs 8,850. The 3G touchscreen phone which is powered by the Touch Wiz 2.0 OS by Samsung also has a 3.2MP camera and support for up-to 16GB microUSB card.
Samsung S5620 Monte also comes with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, giving users the ability to access several social networking sites including Twitter and Facebook through their internet connection.
Samsung Monte has a 3.0 inch wide-screen WQVGA display which will makes watching videos on the go a delight. The phone also comes with support for GPS. The best part about the phone though is it’s pricing which is pretty affordable in the Indian market.
A phone from Samsung selling for only Rs 8.850 definitely takes the cake and eats it too, to top it the phone is full of features which an everyday user would love to have. The only problem with the phone though is that the initial memory is only 200 MB so users would have to spend a few extra bucks to store videos and songs, but considering that phone memory is pretty cheap these days users won’t have to spend a lot more to add that.
Earlier today, we posted about an upcoming jailbreak for the iPad running iPhone OS 3.2. The jailbreak which is known as Spirit and was ported from an iPhone jailbreak is basically a userland jailbreak and does not require any other software to be installed by the user.
However, there are quite a few jailbreaks for the iPad which will be released in the next few days or weeks, depending on how hard Apple has made it for the devs. The first and most likely jailbreak to hit the stands would no doubt be Spirit, but our hot favorite, George Hotz, is also working on a jailbreak for iPad. The new jailbreak will most likely be a port of the untethered jailbreak for iPhone which he came up with earlier last week.
In addition to that, you can also expect iPad jailbreaks from the iPhone Dev team and Chronic Dev team which had released greenpois0n. Now, jailbreaking an iPad would not be as easy as the iPhone, because there are basically no USB connectors on the iPad and users have to dock the device in order to sync it.
However, considering the past, and how Apple has made it really hard for iPhone devs to create an untethered jailbreak and how developers have overcome all those restrictions, it would only be a matter of time till you see a Cydia store and the ability to install unauthorized app on the iPad.
It would be interesting to see who jumps who on the iPad jailbreaking bandwagon and we will definitely keep an eye on it and update you as we get more information on the iPad jailbreaks.
It has been only few days since the iPad was released, but it looks like Steve Jobs and company cannot ensure that the next generation device would be safe from jailbreakers for long.
A new jailbreak for the iPhone called "Spirit" has been ported to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.2 which runs the iPad, the confirmation was tweeted by a iPhone Dev @MuscleNerd. Spirit is a unique jailbreaking technique as it does not require users to download any app.
With the port of the iPhone jailbreak for iPad, users would be able to get rid of restrictions that Apple has placed on the iPad. Considering that iPad does not have any USB connectors, this jailbreak would certainly be helpful since there is no requirement to download anything to your PC or Mac to run the jailbreak.
Spirit might be released in the next few days or weeks, but this announcement will definitely bring a lot of cheer to people who wanted to purchase the iPad but have been waiting for a confirmed jailbreak to make it’s way to the market.
You can watch a video of the jailbreak in action on the iPad running iPhone OS 3.2 below.

The third race of the 2010 F1 race has moved to Sepang, Malaysia and the rain definitely played havoc during qualifying as the top 4 drivers are at the back of the starting grid. Jarno Trulli, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa all dropped out of the first qualifying session itself.
Mark Webber from Renault is on pole position, followed by Nico Rosberg from Mercedes. Sebastian Vettel is on third position followed by Adrian Sutil of Force India. Michael Schumacher occupies the 4th row at 8th position.
You can find all the race positions by visiting the official F1 page for Malaysian qualifying results. Coming back to the race now, it will definitely be a interesting one considering the big names have to make up a lot of ground and the rain will definitely make things more difficult for them.
Do you still remember the much advertised HCL Beanstalk desktop range? Surprisingly it just vanished into thin air a few years ago and was not heard of for long. The good news is, it is back now. HCL India has announced a new range of products out of its Beanstalk powerhouse to cater to the growing demand for better equipped and powerful desktops.
The Executive Vice-President George Paul was quoted saying,
With power-packed features and advanced technologies, the all new range will offer convenience of productivity, connectivity and new entertainment experience.
The return of Beanstalk is a significant step towards expanding our leadership positioning in the high-end desktop space.
He has laid out the pricing for the desktop range to be between Rs.39,990 to Rs.85,000.
The desktop comes in three variants, the Beanstalk Xtreme, Beanstalk Classic and Beanstalk Ultima. They feature core-i7 processors and come with Windows 7. This puts them on the cutting edge of technology. The Beanstalk debuted way back in 1995 and it is good to have it back with better features.

eBay is a great place to make a quick buck, and with the iPad frenzy on in full flow, you would definitely expect quite a few iPad’s to make their way to the self-selling online store. Well, people didn’t have to wait that long too since some users are now selling iPad on eBay.
The good news about the eBay store is that people can purchase and ship the iPad to worldwide locations, however, the bigger bad news is that they will have to pay a premium on the original markup.
For example, a 64GB Wi-Fi version iPad is selling at a flat rate of $999.99, the same can be purchased on the Apple store for $699. Now, a difference of $300 is huge, since you can purchase an 8GB iPad from the Apple Store for only $499.
Nevertheless, if you stay outside of United States and want to get your hands on an iPad, head over to http://ipad.ebay.com and order yours, that is if you don’t mind spending the extra bucks.
Amarok is one of the best music players available for Linux. The latest stable release, Amarok 2.3 brought some cool new features and much needed improvments. Due to the extremely short release cycle that Amarok has, development for the next release, i.e. Amarok 2.3.1, has already been started.
The Amarok team has decided to put in some cool new features for the next release, Amarok 2.3.1. Three of the most exciting new features that are coming in Amarok 2.3.1 are CoverBling, Similar Artists & Upcoming Events and Smart Playlist.
CoverBling is a new applet which will allow you to browse your album collection in an animated 3D view. This is like the Cover Flow feature that iTune has. This is one feature that I am very excited about.
Similar Artists & Upcoming Events
The Similar Artists applet displays a list of artist which are similar to the one you are playing. The Upcoming Event applet displays future events like concerts for the artist that is currently playing. Both of these applets fetch their information from Last.fm.
Automated Playlist Generator
This new feature allows smart creation of playlists that matche user defined constraints. It combines the “Smart Playlist” from Amarok 1.4 with the Bias System from amarok 2.0.
These are the major new features being introduced in Amarok 2.3.1. However, there are other new features and improvements. You can check them out here.
