Dell Thunder Is Set To Thunder Its Way In To The Android World

Dell will be releasing a series of phones this year. First the Lightning, and now the Dell Thunder. While the Lightning runs on WP7 OS, the Thunder runs on the Android OS. The specifications of the Dell Thunder are similar to thedell-thunder Lightning. The Dell Thunder features a 4.1inch WVGA OLED display (AMOLED or Super AMOLED?), and has a 8MP camera. As of now, no other information about the hardware of the device is available. Looking at the specs, it is very likely that Snapdragon processor will be used on the Dell Thunder as well.

The Thunder will have a custom Dell UI named Stagerunning on top of the Android OS. At the time of its launch, the Thunder will have Android OS v2.1. The leaked document also suggests that the Dell Thunder will feature Flash 10.1 support. There is also a mention of an   “integrated web video Hulu app.” Hopefully, this will be the mobile Hulu application everyone has been waiting for so eagerly. The phone will be sold under the AT&T network, and the HSDPA version.

The phone is expected to be available from around Q4 of this year. The LTE model of this device will also be released at the end of Q4, 2011.

But now it looks like Dell will beDell Lightning striking the whole world with the Dell Lightning. The Dell Lightning is a WP7 based phone and features a 4.1 inch OLED display. It is not known whether the display is an AMOLED or a Super AMOLED. We   hope its the latter, because of its better sunlight legibility.

The CPU is the 1Ghz monster from Qualcomm the Snapdragon. The Lightning has a portrait slider form factor and features a full QWERTY keyboard. The phone has 512MB of RAM and 1Gb of ROM. It also packs in 8gb of internal storage. The device also features a 5MP camera, and can playback DivX files natively.

Flash and Silverlight are also supported by the device. The usual GPS, FM Radio, Accelerometer are all present. The launch date of the device is pegged at Q4, of this year. It is also believed that the device will be getting a hardware upgrade to support LTE networks, in Q4 of 2011.

IPL Semi-final: Watch Chennai Super Kings vs Deccan Chargers Online Live

Chennai Super Kings and Deccan Chargers both made the semi-final lineup of IPL 3 in their last match, with Dhoni sealing the Super Kings position with a huge six and Deccan giving Delhi Daredevils a heartbreak.

Deccan Chargers also have an added advantage of having won 5 matches on the trot, however, don’t underestimate the batting power of the Chennai Super Kings, and with Hayden having a lull time through most of the IPL, he might just come out firing on all cylinders and take the game away from the Deccan Chargers.

On the other hand, even Gilchrist has had a lull period so you can definitely expect him to fire too. The match will definitely be a thriller with several batsmen of both the teams in form, it will be the best bowling team which will decide the winner.

Chennai Super Kings are the favorites, however, only time will tell who will be the winner, and of course this is 20-20, the team which plays well on the given day will win on the day, so it is anyone’s game.

The match will be broadcast live on in association with the stream IPL is providing, however, the stream is definitely not the best on YouTube and is not available in the United States. Check out how you want to watch IPL in the US. In the meantime don’t forget to watch the match between Chennai Super Kings and Deccan Chargers live on YouTube at

So who according to you will win between the Chennai Super Kings and Deccan Chargers?

Trine Available for 75% Off on Steam

Trine is a platformer that screams of uniqueness and art-style. Frozen Byte’s puzzle/platformer combo is by far one of the best games I’ve played recently in the action/adventure/puzzle/platformer hybrid/mix/#lotsofslashes genre. With a wizened narrator telling you this fantastic tale of three (two reluctant and one super-excited) heroes out on a journey to save the kingdom from the undead scourge. Sounds simple enough? Well, you can switch between Wizard, Thief or Knight by pressing 1, 2 or 3. What is the logic behind this? Well, their souls are bound so they share the same body, but different souls!

The game is also unique in the fact that it mashes up a fantasy setting with realistic physics. Throw crates and stones at your enemies with Knight, or swing from wood and shoot at the skeletons with Thief. Feeling creative? Well, Wizard has you covered as you can make crates and floating platforms with mouse gestures! There are many ways of solving puzzles and getting secret items in Trine and with four difficulty levels, the game can be played through many times!

The game on Steam is available for $5 75% off from its original price of $19.99. The update features the v1.07 patch that adds a new level called Path to New Dawn! Also, however much I show you pictures of the game, nothing will tell you just how gorgeous it really is. You can try out a demo here, or watch the video below.

Have fun playing it and tell us how you liked it in the comments!

Put Firefox into Hyperdrive with Pale Moon

palemoon-ico [Windows Only] What is Pale Moon? It’s an open source project that takes the Firefox web browser code and recompiles it to run faster in Windows.

Here’s what the author says about it:

Why settle for a basic build of your Firefox browser on Windows Operating Systems when you can have one that performs 25% faster? Mozilla does not provide optimized browser packages for Windows, while many Linux users get the advantage of a browser built specifically for their system. That needs to change! So, here is the Pale Moon project: Custom-built and optimized Firefox browsers for Windows Operating Systems.

I have been using Pale Moon for a few days now, and I did notice a performance boost in comparison with my usual Firefox installs. I would have to say that Pale Moon is a winner.

There are no drastic differences other than the name. All of your old addons should continue to work. You’ll just get around the web a little faster. The author of Pale Moon claims that only real differences are that it doesn’t support the accessibility features or parental controls. Since I don’t use either one, I don’t know what I’m missing.

There’s even a Pale Moon persona (theme) available on the home page that makes it look very cool.

Download and try Pale Moon

Techie Buzz Verdict:

The only major drawback to using Pale Moon is that it may sometimes be a release or two behind Mozilla Firefox. Other than that, there’s not much difference from what I can tell. I can’t think of a good reason why I shouldn’t recommend it for every Firefox user running Windows.

Facebook Unveils Its Roadmap to World Domination And it Is Good

Facebook-f8 It’s a well known fact that Mark Zuckerberg is an insanely ambitious person. So, it’s not surprising that he wants to see Facebook everywhere on the web. And, when I say everywhere, I really mean it. Today, at the f8 developer conference in San Francisco, Facebook made a slew of announcements that will not only help it stay relevant but also propel Facebook to the next level. Here is a quick look at some of the stuff that really matters.

Open Graph Protocol: Facebook will be shutting down its Facebook Connect product. In its place, Facebook has launched a new protocol and API called Open Graph, which is based on OAuth 2.0. Facebook has already roped in big names like Yelp, Pandora and Microsoft as partners. The chief purpose of Open Graph is to make integrating external content with Facebook as simple as possible.

New Like Button: Facebook wants to know what’s hot and the new Like button will allow it to do just that. These buttons behave in an identical fashion to Like buttons in Facebook. The only difference is that you can an additional option to include a snippet with each Liked item.

Facebook Bar: Not content with just a button, Facebook will also be launching its very own persistent toolbar. This feature is yet to be unveiled, but you can head over to TechCrunch for more information.

Death of Privacy: Facebook has received flak in the past for its lax privacy policies and I suspect that it may be in for more trouble. The new Open Graph protocol will allow Facebook to auto-login users at websites they have never visited before. Not only that, Facebook also plans on automatically sharing basic profile information with these third-party websites. There are several other potentially troublesome clauses in Facebook’s proposed privacy policy amendment. For example, any data that has not been marked as private will now be available to developers, who are welcome to store it indefinitely.

The word Semantic Web has been floating around for quite some time. So far, no one has managed to get it quite right. However, with Open Graph and Social plug-ins, Facebook is in with a real chance to make sense of the web. The new Facebook will not only know what content you like but also know how you discovered that content, who did you share it with and what was your friend’s reaction to the same content.

Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx Hit By Major Memory Leak Problem

With less than about a week left till the final release and a day till the Release Candidate, Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx has been hit by a very serious memory leak problem involving X.Org.

Last week, the Lucid repository  received  an update for X.Org Server to enable GLX 1.4. This update in X.Org Server resulted is some crashes and as a result another patch was introduced to fix the crash. This update to fix the crash has resulted in a major memory leak which causes the system to get slower and slower until it becomes completely sluggish and unusable.

This problem is currently being considered “Urgent” and the attempts by the Ubuntu developers to fix this issue have been unsuccessful so far. In order to fix the problem in time for the final release, the developers are considering rolling back the patches, including the one which enables GLX 1.4. This will mean going back to GLX 1.2.

Flawed MacAfee Update Kills Windows XP Systems Worldwide

Windows XP users, be warned. If you are using McAfee Antivirus, then do not apply DAT update 5958. Apparently, this update causes McAfee to delete svchost.exe, which in turn sets off a chain of events that ends up messing up Windows XP installations. Affected systems will display the following error message and automatically initiate a system restart.

If you have already installed DAT update 5958, then it is best to perform a rollback (from Tools–>Rollback DAT). In the meantime, exercise caution if you get any alerts related to the detection of W32/Wecorl.a. In all likelihood, it is a false positive that can brick your system. If case your system has already been affected, you can stop the infinite restart loop by entering shutdown a in the Run command box (Win+R).

Bungled McAfee updates are nothing new. However, this is obviously a big screw up. At the moment, McAfee is undoubtedly working behind the scenes to rush through a fix. However, even that may be too late, as possibly thousands of perplexed users worldwide have already been affected by this glitch.

image courtesey:

Update: The update has now been pulled from McAfee’s servers. Here is the statement McAfee issued to Engadget:

McAfee is aware that a number of customers have incurred a false positive error due to incorrect malware alerts on Wednesday, April 21. The problem occurs with the 5958 virus definition file (DAT) that was released on April 21 at 2.00 PM GMT+1 (6am Pacific Time).

Our initial investigation indicates that the error can result in moderate to significant performance issues on systems running Windows XP Service Pack 3.

The faulty update has been removed from McAfee download servers for corporate users, preventing any further impact on those customers. We are not aware of significant impact on consumer customers and believe we have effectively limited such occurrence.

McAfee teams are working with the highest priority to support impacted customers and plan to provide an update virus definition file shortly. McAfee apologizes for any inconvenience to our customers

According to early speculation, the number of affected system should be in hundreds of thousands. At the moment, the very least McAfee can do is acknowledge the gravity of their mistake. Bricking a system is not equivalent to causing moderate to significant performance issues.
