.

There are three cool Firefox extensions available to save you a lot of time while saving images from the Internet.

Save Image in Folder

Save Image in folder allows you to save images in different folders that you can define. Why this helps is because it allows you to save say funny pictures in a folder called funny or a wallpaper in a folder called wallpaper, without you having to navigate to the folder or open a file save dialog. This is a real life saver and does really help a lot to organize images within different folders with relative ease.

Happy Birthday Techie Buzz

I registered this domain on the 31st of May 2006 but started the first post on this blog on the 4th of June which I scrapped later.

Today I want to celebrate the birthday of Techie Buzz. I am proud that you are one year old and helped thousands of users find solutions for their problems. You have given readers a new insight into technology in your own way and talked about different things that are related to solving problems or pointing out annoyances.

Through you I have been able to share my thoughts to the world and a part of the world has started to know me because of you.

I am so sorry that I neglected you for 6 months letting you drop in rankings over the same period but I will always strive to keep you high in the way people see you, you are a part of me and a extension of me on the Internet where unknown people can connect to me without knowing me.

You let my words reach out to people who I have never met. Through you I have come across 100’s of people who can speak to me. For me you are the way I could make this speech possible. I want to celebrate today as a day where I have been able to learn to write better and speak better thanks to you.

Here is wishing you a very happy first birthday.

Money makers and shakers - Maki from Dosh Dosh

Money makers and shakers is a series of interviews I am conducting with successful bloggers who are making money out of blogging and making a difference to the blogging community in different ways including educating new bloggers and teaching old bloggers new methods to monetize their blogs.

The first in the series is a interview with Maki from the popular blog Dosh Dosh.

Before I start the interview I would like to present a little background information about Maki and his successful blog Dosh Dosh.

Who is Maki?

Maki is currently a Political Science and Philosophy student in Toronto, Canada. His personal interests revolve around indie rock music, anime, photography, art films, internet media and really good literature.

Maki has spent time doing freelance journalism and has also been involved with various public relations and marketing firms. He holds a high level of interest about affiliate marketing, social media, blogging and anything that results in a copious amount of making money.

What is Dosh Dosh about?

Dosh Dosh is a blog that helps you on ways to make money online. Dosh Dosh enlightens you on topics that vary from professional blogging to making money online with various tools.

Dosh Dosh strives to bring to you the legitimate and legal ways of making money exposing the frauds that try to take advantage of the means to make money online.

I am very happy to get the first interview with Maki and am glad that he has taken time to answer all the questions I have put forth in this interview.

The interview

What are your views about making money using blogs?

Maki: I think they are definitely useful tools that can generate income either directly or indirectly for a business or individual. You could easily set up a blog to complement your company or you could create a blog to promote your own professional services such as freelance writing or web design. Blogs are generally very easy to create and manage so they can be used for a wide variety of other means such as affiliate marketing as well.

Should / Can new bloggers take up blogging with a view of earning money?

Maki: Yes, I think taking up blogging with the aim of making money is not disagreeable. A blog can be likened to other websites or online magazines which offer you content in return for income generated by advertising. Taking such a perspective will not be detrimental for your blogging career as long as you holistically integrate blog monetization alongside the provision of content that fulfills the audience’s need.

Does it matter if you use your personal domain or a blog network for blogging?

Maki: Yes, I think it matters in the long run. Your own domain allows you a lot more backend flexibility and control. Hosted blog services like Wordpress.com or Blogger do have limitations, not to mention that it might look unprofessional in the eyes of others.

What are the various source of income you use on your blog?

Maki: I mainly use a combination of affiliate ads alongside contextual advertising like Google Adsense for all my blogs. I’m also a big fan of direct advertising sales and have used this option extensively for most of my blogs.

Add New Locations to Places Bar in File Dialogs

Windows users might be quite familiar with File Dialogs that pop up every time you create a new file, open a new file or save a new file. In every File Dialog you can see places that you can save the files to in the left side just by clicking on it. These locations are called Places Bar and contain folders which are easily accessible.

file-open-dialog

What should be easily accessible is not decided by you and its a default behavior to show recent documents, desktop, my documents, my computer and my network places in the places bar. If you want to save the files in a different locations, you will have to navigate to that folder. What if you can easily add your favorite folder to the places bar by removing things that you don’t require.

For example I create a lot of screen shots for the blog and while saving it I have to navigate to the picture folder. It would be great to have the custom folder in the places bar as it would help me save and open files faster.

Google Store - Buy Stuff from Google

I came across something that I did not before, so please pardon the ignorance that I am sharing it with you. I never really knew that Google had a Google Store where it sells Google Branded Products. Yes they have a Google logo on all their products.

You can find products such as a Crank Flashlight, Convention Tote bag, candles, tumblers, pins, mats, beach towels, flying discs, Yo-Yo, Google hat for kids, bags, pencils, pens and what not. The categories are limited to Accessories, Fun, Kids, Office, Wearables and Software which is the Google Pack. If you do not have that yet then Get essential software with Google Pack.

They have a cool headset that is made for Gtalk. Most of the contacts I have from blogging use Gtalk so I guess I will buy one soon. It costs $19.95 and ships free too :-).

The Google Store is currently for US customers. If you are not in the US then you can check out the Google worldwide stores to buy the products.

All the products are branded with the Google logo. So if you are a big Google fan and want to sport your love for them you can buy a product from the Google Store and flaunt it around.

Did you know about the Google Store? Do let me know through your valuable comments.

Create a customized toolbar for Firefox

Firefox is a great browser, the ability to extend and customize the browser is one of the many features I love. Firefox allows you to extend your browser using different extensions. If you have a lot of extensions installed then you will be aware that many of them have their own toolbars. Toolbars let you quickly navigate the extension features and are a great addition to the extension.

Even though the extension may be useful to you, you may still not want to use all the features it provides. If you display the toolbars for all the extensions installed it will eat up on your precious screen space making the viewing area smaller. Having many toolbars can easily confuse you too.

If you disable viewing these toolbars you lose out on a way to easily access the features. If you still want to use the features provided by the extension then there are two easy ways you can do that through;

1. Remember all the keyboard shortcuts.
2. Create your own customized toolbar.

If you decide to remember all the keyboard shortcuts it’s well and good, but not all toolbars have keyboard shortcuts so it will not be easy to do it this way.

Firefox has a nice little feature which allows you to create your own toolbars using simple drag and drop. Creating your own customized toolbar allows you to choose which options you want to see for various extensions and create your own personalized toolbar. To save space and clutter you can then disable the rest of the toolbars and used the customized toolbar you created.

To give you more insight here is the famous before and after comparison.
