From Android to Apple, the demand for entertaining and useful apps for your mobile device has ballooned over the past few years. Here is a list of the most practical and helpful apps that will help drivers stay happy while on the move.
Dynolicious
Dynolicious is a highly praised app that is great for boy racers or modifiers. The app uses the iPhone’s inbuilt accelerometer to measure your car’s 0-62mph times, horsepower output, quarter mile times and lateral G readings.
It’s a clever bit of kit that could be of great use when you’re at the lights and a Corvette pulls up against you and you have a bit of a race (we don’t condone this) and it ends up being a dead heat at least then you’ll be able to prove how quick your quarter mile was. Think of how cool you’ll look!
Trapster
With over 5,000,000 users worldwide, Trapster is proof that the public desires an app that warns them of oncoming police speed traps, cameras or patrols. This clever app works by people submitting where the cameras or traps are and the information is then put through the system and fed to the masses.
It’s a little app that could save you a fair bit of cash if you are a bit of speed demon.
Carticipate
Are you the one who does all the carpooling in the morning? Do you hate having to go back and forth and feeling like you’re wasting fuel? Well, the Carticipate app allows you to plan and co-ordinate driving plans to pick up all your car-poolers with the most efficient route.
You could save on fuel, help the environment and stay just a little bit saner.
MotorTrend
Are you such a car enthusiast that you need to read up on everything motoring even when you’re out in the car? MotorTrend can help. With its extensive database of car reviews, it is a great way of choosing your next car while having a 5 minute break at the roadside.
Available on the Android marketplace, MotorTrend is full of informative information that will keep you reading for hours.
Car Finder
This free app is tiny on memory and very easy to use and it can also be a life saver. Have you ever parked in a large multi-storey and come back later and completely forgot where you parked? Well, by using Car Finder, you can set the GPS co-ordinates of your car before you leave and the app will help you find it later on.
A simple and useful interface and easy to use buttons makes this app a real keeper.
RAC Traffic Report
Available on the Android marketplace, the RAC Traffic Report app is one of the best we’ve come across. Using the phone’s GPS signal, the app will use detailed maps to show you where any large scale traffic, hold-ups or roadworks are currently going on throughout your region.
It’s pretty reliable and regularly updated a must for any regular driver!
TomTom
Another traffic finder; the TomTom app searches out any traffic incidents and with the reliability of TomTom technology, you know you’re in safe hands. Available on iPhone, this app looks great and is as easy to use as any mainstream TomTom product.
If generic, easy-to-use, familiarity is what you’re after, then the TomTom UK and Ireland app is perfect.
Roadside America
Are you travelling in the US and don’t want to miss any monument or tourist attraction? Download the Roadside America app and you’ll have thousands of tourist related events and sights at the touch of a button.
With helpful maps and bright colours, the Roadside America app is a great tool for the family looking to fit in as much as they can into one day.
SpeedView Pro
Another Android app, the SpeedView Pro application is perfect for anyone whose old banger has decided to leave you without a working speedometer. The app displays current speed, duration, average speed and maximum speed via the phone’s GPS system.
It may cost £1.23 but it can be a helpful and potentially law aiding app that should keep you out of trouble from the police.
CoPilot Live
Ok, so this costs £26, which is a hell of a lot for a mobile app, but we think it’s worth a look. The CoPilot Live app is a satellite navigation system that is around half of the price of its rivals, and it’s hard to see why.
With a beautiful interface and easy to use controls, the CoPilot Live app is a great alternative to proper sat-navs.
