Five months ago, Apple launched the iPhone on Verizon’s network, and since then, it has become the carrier’s top-selling handset. This is according to new research by BTIG Research, who spent the past three weeks asking 250 Verizon and AT&T stores across the United States to find out their number one selling phone.
According to the survey, of the Verizon stores surveyed, they reported that 51 percent said that the iPhone was their top-selling smartphone, and an additional 38 percent said that it was tied for first with an Android device. When AT&T stores were surveyed, 65% said that iPhone was their top-seller and the additional 31% said it was an Android device.
Folks, remember that the iPhone 4 is only an year old. These numbers are truly remarkable for only a year old device, and just imagine what these numbers will look like once iPhone is available on all 4 major carriers in the US.
In total, 58 percent of the stores BTIG that asked, named the iPhone as their strongest selling phone, and an additional 20 percent said that it shared the position with a competing device.
These statistics are amazing for a device that has been constantly pronounced “dead in the water”. iPhone first launched in 2007 and the first Android device shipped in 2008. Five years later, a combination of these two devices are destroying competitors like Nokia and RIM.
