After a lot of speculations and rumors, the 2.1 Eclair update is now finally available for Sprint customer using HTC Hero. This update, which was originally slated to be released in April has finally made its way out in May.

Android 2.1 HTC Hero

Quite sometime back, we had reported about Sprint releasing an Android 2.1 update for Hero in April, however, that turned out to be false and had irked many Hero users who were stuck with an old Android OS.

However, that is a thing of the past now as HTC Hero customers can download the official update from Sprint. HTC Hero users can download the update by visiting this official Sprint firmware page.

The new update carries a software update version 2.27.651.5 and a Android 2.1 "Eclair" firmware ROM. The release also carries enhancements to the Sense User Interface and enhanced corporate email support (exchange).

The update may wipe out your current data, so it is highly advisable to backup your device before carrying out the upgrade, and finally, hope the wait was worth your while. Enjoy the best Android OS yet on your device right away.
