Sony announced the Xperia S and the Xperia Ion at the recently concluded CES in Las Vegas. Both the handsets are similar to each other, except that the Ion is meant only for the AT&T network in the United States and comes with a bigger — 4.6-inch — screen.
Now, it looks like Sony is preparing to releasing a couple of more handsets at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month. In a leaked group pic of quite a few Sony (Ericsson) handsets, two mysterious handsets have shown up as well – arguably codenamed Xperia Nypon and Lumquat.
The Nypon looks similar to the Ion but comes with a smaller 4-inch Reality Display. Internally, the Nypon is rumored to be powered by a NovaThor U8500 SoC and packs an 8MP camera at its back.
The Xperia Lumquat is the successor to the Xperia Mini, the world’s smallest phone capable of recording HD videos, and will come with a much bigger 3.5-inch FWVGA Reality Display.
Sony will be announcing both these mysterious handsets and hopefully, a few more at MWC next month. Hopefully, the company will release handsets which can compete against the likes of Samsung Galaxy S3.
