Sony Xperia 2011 Handsets To Not Get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update

While Sony might not have had much of a success with its Android phones, the company definitely is trying its best. Beside Google, Sony is the largest contributor to AOSP (Android Open Source Project). The Japanese company also helps the Android modding community by providing them with devices for development, and other proprietary binaries when needed. Sony is also the only company that has already updated its whole nearly the whole 2011 range of Xperia handsets to Ice Cream Sandwich.

Sadly, it looks like Sony has decided that it won’t be bringing Jelly Bean to its 2011 devices. Commenting on a question asked on its Facebook page about the Arc S and Xperia Mini Pro Jelly Bean update, the company’s PR stated that the handsets won’t be getting the latest version of Android. Since the 2011 range of Xperia handsets pack similar internals, they should meet the same fate as well.

Sony is currently “reviewing which handsets are the best for the Jelly Bean update”. While Jelly Bean does not really bring any new features that are taxing on the hardware, it does contain many under-the-hood framework changes. In addition to this, the Ice Cream Sandwich update was already pushing the 2011 Xperia handsets to its limits, with many users complaining about sluggish performance, bugs and poor battery life.
