However, X10 owners will lose some functionality compared when they upgrade to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Sony Ericsson aims to provide the X10 Gingerbread update with the stock Android camera interface, which means features like face recognition and smile shutter will be lost.

Sony Ericsson’s proprietary MediaScape app will also be replaced by the new media experience widgets found in the new Xperia products.

The Gingerbread update will be released via SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service and not via OTA. The company will release the Android Gingerbread update for the Xperia X10 by the end of Q2 or early Q3 of this year.

However, the update is only for unlocked and un-branded X10 handsets. For network locked X10 owners, it all depends on their network provider whether they will release the update or not.

‘Xperia X10 owners can read more about the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for their phone here.’

Your link for more information seems to only refer to upgrading to Android 2.1 – there is no mention of 2.3 at all.
