Samsung started rolling out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy S II (I9100) back in mid-March in certain regions of the world. The company continued the roll-out in other countries and variants of the Galaxy S2 in the following months. However, for some strange reason Samsung did not release the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy S II in India. In fact, the Galaxy Note got its official Ice Cream Sandwich update in India before the Galaxy S2.
Starting from today though Samsung has started rolling out the official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy S II in India. The update is available for both the variants of the Galaxy S II – the I9100 and I9100G. The reason behind the delay in releasing the ICS update for the Galaxy S2 in India from Samsung was the I9100G variant of the handset.
Samsung had silently replaced the I9100 Galaxy S2 variant with the I9100G variant. The difference between both these variants was more than what the ‘G’ signifies. The company wanted to update both these handsets to Ice Cream Sandwich at the same time so as to avoid confusion, and thus held back the I9100 update in India while it developed the update for the I9100G variant.
Galaxy S2 owners in India can download and install the update on their handset by using Samsung’s KIES software.
